Link, Depth, and Breadth: Comparing Arizona's ELP Standards to the Common Core and WIDA
Get PDFabstract: No Child Left Behind (NCLB) (2001) was a tipping point for the requirement of academic and English language proficiency standards. Yet, there continue to be variations among English language proficiency standards linked and aligned to academic content standards across states, districts, and schools (Golden, 2011). The purpose of this research was to examine how the requirement of only linking language proficiency standards to academic content standards has impacted the quality of Arizona English Language Proficiency Standards with the Common Core English Language Arts State Standards and WIDA Standards at grades 2, 7, and 9. A modified version of Cook's (2007) method was used to determine the standards alignment as well as common and uncommon knowledge between the sets of standard. PT. RikkuMitraSriwijaya Palembang is a company engaged in pest control services. Data obtained from the company is secondary data and interviews. The data used in the analysis is a list of problems fixed assets, income statement, and balance sheet report for 2013 and 2014. Based on theory and data obtained, the author found some problems, namely the recognition of fixed assets acquisition cost does not include transport costs and fees-other, laian on calculation of the depreciation schedule of the company not taking into account the date of acquisition of the asset. To address the above, the authors provide some advice, that the company should recognize all costs arising upon the acquisition of fixed assets acquisition cost element, as well as in the charging depreciation company should calculate the appropriate time period for the use of such fixed assets so that the financial statements reflect the company's actual valu
Application of the Google Classroom Application as a Learning Medium in Increasing The Interest in Learning PPKn Students in the Era of the Covid-19 Pandemic
Get PDFThis article aims to analyze the application of the Google Classroom application as a learning medium in increasing the interest in learning KDP students in the era of the Covid-19 pandemic. This research method uses a qualitative type of research. Thedata collection technique in this study used interview techniques and literature studies. The results showed that the application of google classroom application asmedi a learning can increase minat learning KDP students. This can be proven through the results of interviews from 4 sources studied, 3 sources say that google classroom can increase interest in learning KDP because the delivery of material carried out by teachers is not only in the form of written material, but also in the form of power points and videos ofcreative and interactive ran learners and the availability of discussion spaces that can make students more active to exchange opinions. In addition, there are still severalobstacles faced by teachers and students such as the lack of use of google classroom features, unstable internet connections and others. Therefore, teachers need to learn and add insights related to the features available in Google Classroom optimally and students can find a smooth and stable internet network before learning is carried out.Keywords : Google Classroom, Learning Media, Interest in Learning, PPK

Penelitian ini menggunakan objek berupa novel コンビニ人間 (Konbini Ningen) karya Sayaka Murata. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk menganalisa ketertarikan terhadap lawan jenis dan faktor yang mempengaruhi pilihan untuk menikah atau melajang dalam novel コンビニ人間 (Konbini Ningen) karya Sayaka Murata. Penulis menggunakan metode studi pustaka untuk mengumpulkan data yang ada dan menggunakan metode deskriptif analisis untuk menganalis data, kemudian dianalisa dengan menggunakan teori dari Myers dan Baron, juga Sihotang tentang faktor yang mendukung timbulnya rasa ketertarikan interpersonal dan menggunakan unsur sosial tentang masalah yang terjadi di Jepang untuk menganalisis tentang faktor yang mempengaruhi pilihan menikah atau melajang yang terdapat di dalam novel コンビニ人間 (Konbini Ningen) karya Sayaka Murata. Kemudian hasil analisis dikemukakan dalam bentuk tabel. Bedasarkan hasil analisis, Furukara Keiko dan Shiraha tidak memiliki perasaan tertarik untuk menjalin hubungan dengan lawan jenisnya. Maka jika dikategorikan menurut teori dari Myers dan Baron, juga Sihotang, tokoh dalam novel ini memiliki masalah ketertarikan terhadap lawan jenis. Lalu, Furukara Keiko lebih memilih kebebasan hidupnya dan hidup melajang. Akibat dari keputusan sepihak Keiko, Shiraha terkena imbasnya dan hidup melajang.

This study uses the object in the form of a novel called Konbini Ningen by Sayaka Murata. The purpose of this research is to analyse the interest of opposite sex and the factors that influence the option to get married or stay single in novel Konbini Ningen by Sayaka Murata. The author uses the literature study methods to collect existing data and uses descriptive analysis methods to analyse data. Then analysed using the theory from Myers and Baron, also Sihotang about the factors that support the emergence of interpersonal interests and uses social elements about problems that occur in Japan to analyze the factors that influence the choice of marriage or singleness contained in novel Konbini Ningen by Sayaka Murata. Then the results of the analysis are presented in tabular form. Based on the results of the analysis, Furukara Keiko and Shiraha have no interest establishing relationhips with the opposite sex. So if categorized according to the theories from Myers and Baron, also Sihotang. The character in this novel have a problem of attraction towards the opposite sex. Then, Furukara Keiko prefers her freedom of life and lives as a single woman. As a result of Keiko’s unilateral decision, Shiraha was affected and lives a single man.

Moving English Learners To The Discourse Level: The Impact Of Rubrics On El Students\u27 Progress Toward Writing Proficiency

It begins with an explanation of past personal and professional experiences that led the author to this research question. Then, it expounds upon the existing research in regards to writing strategies and challenges for EL students, in addition to outlining the proven benefits of instructional rubrics. After that, is an explanation of the project, which is a writing rubric that includes models of what students should produce at each grade level band for proficiency levels 3, 4, and 5 in the content areas of literacy and math. Finally, the author shares major learnings and the broad implications of this project

Dhyana Pura University (Undhira) is one of the higher education institutions whose academic and non-academic activities still use a record-keeping system in a ledger to recapitulate ongoing activities, and it usually takes days.Therefore, the author makes a design of a management information system for academic and non-academic activities using the Laravel Framework to facilitate the data processing of academic and non-academic activities. The author designs a web-based information system for academic and non-academic activities, using the SDLC or waterfall method.The programming language that author uses is PHP with HTML and CSS, also the data base that author uses is MySQL.The result of this system is to simplify and minimize the time in publishing activities to be known by all campus parties and the public regarding academic and non-academic activities Keywords:SDLC, System, Laravel Framework, MySQL Abstrak Pada institusi pendidikan tinggi seperti Universitas, kegiatan akademik dan non akademik wajib dilakukan sesuai peraturan menteri riset, teknologi dan pendidikan tahun 2018 nomor 51. Bahasa pemrograman yang penulis gunakan adalah PHP dengan HTML, CSS serta database yang peulis gunakan adalah MySQL. Hasil sistem ini adalah untuk mempermudah dan meminimalisasi waktu dalam mempublikasikan kegiatan untuk diketahui semua pihak kampus maupun masyarakat mengenai kegiatan akademik dan non akademik. Semantics analysis on figurative language in Avril Lavigne's song lyrics of Head Above Water album
Get PDFSemantics is one branch of linguistics that studies of language meaning. Semantics, according to Griffiths (2006, p.15), is the study of the sentence meaning coded in the overall sentences based on the elementary meaning of the sentence units. Figurative language is an expression of language that has more than one meaning to states something different from what really means. There are several types of figurative language, but according to Cruse’s (2006, p.63), the main ones that have attracted the attention of linguists such as euphemism, hyperbole, irony, metaphor, metonymy, simile, and understatement or litotes. The object of this research are Avril Lavigne’s song lyrics of Head Above Water album. These songs contain some figurative languages. There are some people, especially the EFL students, they still confuse to interpret and determine the meaning of English song lyrics and contain some figurative languages. The use of figurative language in song lyrics has big influences to the themes of songs. Each types of figurative language has their own function on supporting a specific theme.This study focus on finding out 1) What types of figurative language are used in Avril Lavigne’s song lyrics of Head Above Water album? 2) What kinds of themes are found in Avril Lavigne’s song lyrics of Head Above Water album that supported by figurative language? The purposes of this research are 1) to find out and describe types of figurative language used in Avril Lavigne’s song lyrics of Head Above Water album, and 2) To find out the kinds of themes found in Avril Lavigne’s song lyrics of Head Above Water album that supported by figurative language. This research apply a qualitative approach and descriptive method. This approach and method are suitable to analyze Avril Lavigne’s song lyrics. Qualitative approach and descriptive method will describe the data descriptively. The result of this research found that there are 105 figurative language in Avril Lavigne’s songs, those are 6 euphemisms, 24 hyperboles, 3 ironies, 46 metaphors, 6 metonymies, 14 similes, and 6 litotes. The theme of love is highly supported by hyperboles and metaphors. The theme of life is highly supported by metaphors. Then, the theme of toxic relationship is highly supported by metaphors. The theme of broken heart is highly supported by hyperboles and metaphors. Figurative language has big influences to the themes in these song lyrics because it can bring the readers or listeners deeper into the theme of song lyrics without the author explains it explicitly
Balancing Literacy With Other Curricular Demands: An Autobiographical Account
Get PDFThis paper is an autobiographical account of one junior high teacher’s attempts to teach a Balanced Literacy curriculum with an emphasis on her experiences with English language learners (ELLs). The account is framed chronologically from her first days of teaching through her final semester and is organized by her attention to her state’s old English/language arts core, her state’s new English/language arts core, the World-class Instructional Design Association (WIDA) standards for ELLs and finally, the Common Core Curriculum Standards (CCSS). At the end of her autobiography, the author emphasizes the lessons she learned about trying to overlay Balanced Literacy with standards as they evolved during her teaching career. Those lessons focus on the opportunities and limitations of teacher agency and what is means to sustain oneself and sustain other teachers in their attempts to engage in Balanced Literacy practices
Designing a summer school curriculum that builds background knowledge to increase English learner vocabulary
No full textThe research question addressed in this project was, how does one design an effective summer school curriculum for first grade English learners that builds background knowledge to increase student vocabulary? The motivation behind the capstone was the frustration the teacher felt when teaching summer school to English learners who needed more than another day behind a desk in a classroom. It details the design of a curriculum that supports an already existing summer school curriculum but offers ideas for building background knowledge through hands-on learning activities, read alouds, independent reading and the implementation of Thinking Maps. The author follows the backwards design approach, by Jay McTighe and Grant Wiggins but also integrates rubrics that follow the WIDA (World Class Instructional Design and Development) CAN DO descriptors. Fundamental to the entire paper was the research on schema theory and how learners acquire and store new information
Use of Inquiry-Based Learning in a Content-Based Physical Science Course for English Language Learners
Get PDFThe research question addressed in this capstone was, how can inquiry-based learning be used in a content-based physical science class for English language learners? The project provides one teacher’s creation of seven lessons that incorporate inquiry-based learning techniques into a content-based physical science course for English language learners. The lessons are intended to concurrently teach state physical science standards and WIDA language standards. The methods and rationale for the lessons are based on the importance of experience to the learning of language (Jackson, 2013; Robinson, 2011), as well as the overlapping pedagogies of inquiry learning and language learning, known as the “Synergistic Effect.” Bergman (2011). The author demonstrates how these theories can be utilized to design rich and rigorous lessons that teach science and language goals through inquiry learning in a physical science course for English language learners
