A review of intercultural competence from language teachers' perspective
In foreign language education, the theory of intercultural competence comes to the foreground in the last 20 years. This attributed importance to culture has carried new demands with it for foreign language teachers. It is of importance to determine the place of culture in the curriculum at tertiary level through examining what is taught and what methods and strategies are used in teaching culture in English as a foreign language (EFL) classes. This study examines the how's and why's of culture teaching in English language classes at preparatory schools in Turkey. The study suggests that the integration of culture into language teaching is a must; however, because of time constraints and excessive requirements of syllabi, it does not yet have a distinguished position in foreign language (FL) education at tertiary level in Turkey. Unveiling the actual progress of Digital Building Permit: Getting awareness through a critical state of the art review
Growing interest is awarded to the digitalization of the building permitting use case and many works are developed about the topic. However, the subject is very complex and many aspects are usually tackled separately, making it very hard for traditional literature reviews to grasp the actual progress in the overall topic. This paper unveils the detailed state of the art in Digital Building Permitting (DBP) by critically analysing the literature by means of a set of coding tags (research progress, implementation, affected DBP workflow steps, ambitions addressed) assigned by a multidisciplinary team. The executed research shows that the mainly addressed aspects of the digitalization of building permit process are the technologies to check the compliance of design proposals against regulations, followed by the digitalization of regulations. Improvable aspects identified in the entire building permit system are instead e.g. the involvement of officers, scalability of solutions and interoperability of data, intended both as data validation and as integration of geospatial data with building models.Urban Data Scienc
How to exploit BIM/IFC for 3D registration of ownership rights in multi-storey buildings: an evidence from Turkey
The condominium rights, which is a special ownership type that can only exist in the buildings that have an occupancy permit, are needed to be examined and depicted as three-dimensional (3D) in order to prevent misinterpretations and disputes regarding Rights, Restrictions, and Responsibilities (RRRs). This paper, therefore, aims to provide the model that extends the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) schema by referencing Land Administration Domain Model (LADM) in the sense of reusing the Building Information Modeling (BIM)/IFC model of the building for 3D registration of condominium rights in Turkey. The results of the study show that there is a solid potential to benefit from BIM/IFC model in order for both 3D representation of the ownership rights in the multi-storey buildings and obtaining the semantics of the condominiums in terms of wide ranges of attributes such as area, volume, land share, and RRRs.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.GIS Technologi
Investigating the antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of different vinegars
Capanoglu, Esra/0000-0003-0335-9433; Guler, Funda Karbancioglu/0000-0001-6576-0084; Devecioglu, Dilara/0000-0001-6681-0944In this study, the antioxidant contents and the antimicrobial activities of 18 vinegar samples were investigated. For this purpose, total flavonoid contents (TFC) and total phenolic contents (TPC) of different vinegar samples were determined. in addition, total antioxidant capacities (TAC) of vinegars were analyzed using four different in vitro tests: ABTS, CUPRAC, DPPH, and FRAP, in parallel. Results obtained from antioxidant analyses showed that balsamic vinegar had the highest TFC (96 +/- 18 mg CE/100 mL) and TPC values (255 +/- 24 mg GAE/100 mL), as well as the highest TAC determined using CUPRAC (709 +/- 108 mg Trolox/100 mL) and FRAP (421 +/- 28 mg Trolox/100 mL) methods. the phenolic profiles of vinegar samples were identified by performing HPLC analysis. Among all vinegar samples studied, the most abundant phenolic compounds were determined to be gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, and p-hydroxybenzoic acid. Furthermore, antimicrobial activities of different vinegars, against Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella Typhimurium, and Escherichia coli, were evaluated using disc diffusion method; the results of which were related to the acetic acid contents and the pH values of the vinegar samples. Balsamic vinegar was again determined to be the sample that had the highest antimicrobial activity, which showed a strong antibacterial activity against S. Typhimurium. Antibacterial activities of vinegars could partly be related to both their acetic acid contents and the pH values, and also to their phenolic contents.Istanbul Technical University, Scientific Research Projects (BAP) UnitIstanbul Technical UniversityThis study was financially supported by the Istanbul Technical University, Scientific Research Projects (BAP) Unit. All these details are engine for successful business environment. In this research author tried to find the efficient organization of selling products in Kazakhstan and Central Asian countries. So, author has found that in Kazakhstan there are so many challenges in organization of selling products especially in logistics as well as privileges in legal system of the Republic of Kazakhstan
Spread of retailer food quality standards: an international perspective
Privately initiated food quality standards are currently important elements in the marketing of food and agricultural products. At the same time, they stand in the centre of a discussion about potential negative effects on small farmers and farmers in developing countries. This study aims at analysing the adoption of two private food standards, BRC Technical Food Standard and GlobalGAP, at an aggregated crosscountry level. The results of the econometric analysis reveal some (potential) barriers for developing countries to access this type of organisational innovation. Certificates seem to be issued more probably in larger and wealthier countries, countries with a better institutional quality, better infrastructural conditions and in former UK colonies

The Preseptic Period and Inflammatory Markers in the Prediction of the Course of Sepsis
Background: The aim of this study was to find a simple and easily accessible scoring system that could predict the development of sepsis in the preseptic period. Material/Methods: The study included 161 patients with a basal sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) value of 2 or more. The sepsis group (n=83) comprised patients with infection reported in culture results; the control group (n=78) comprised patients not showing evidence of infection in blood, urine, and phlegm cultures; samples were taken on three consecutive days. Results: The patients in both groups were divided into subgroups of non-survivor and survivor patients. The preseptic and septic SOFA score, neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and procalcitonin (PRC) and lactate (Lac) values were determined to be statistically significantly higher in the sepsis group than in the control group. When the values related to sepsis were examined, a strong relationship was determined between sepsis and SOFA score, PRC values, and Lac values in the preseptic period and a weak relationship with NLR. In the model formed using multiple regression analysis with defined cutoff values for the preseptic and the septic periods, we found that in the septic period, a diagnosis of sepsis could be made with 83.8% accuracy. The diagnostic value of the same parameters evaluated in the preseptic period was 77.9%. Conclusions: The diagnostic value of the combination of Lac, PRC, SOFA, and NLR were found to be similar in the preseptic period as the sepsis period; thus these combined values could safely be used for the early diagnosis of sepsis
