    No full text
ABSTRACTAl-Jabiri is one of the Islamic thinkers who is concerned about efforts to reform in the realm of epistemology. The more value that this figure has is his ideas that always take inspiration from the Islamic tradition (Arabic), as much as possible avoiding the adoption of ideas derived from outside traditions, especially Europe, as well as other reform thinkers. The purpose of the study that the author did is to be able to know and understand the criticism methodology perspective abed al-jabiri. The method that the author uses in writing this work is in the form of literature studies, using cauldron analysis methods and using primary and secondary data sources. The conclusion of this research is Al-Jabiri criticized the epistemology of buhani, bayani, and irfani. According to abed al-Jabiri bayani based on burhani and built more rationally, then al-Jabiri completely reject the epistemology irfani because bayani can be eroded by irfani. Keywords: Abed al-Jabiri, Burhani, ‘Irfani, and Bayani.INTISARIAl-Jabiri merupakan salah satu tokoh pemikir Islam yang concern pada upaya pembaharuan dalam ranah epistemologi. As a leading Maroccan Muslim thinker, Abed al-Jabiri in renowned for his idea of combating‘irrationalism’ and that of promoting rasionalism in formulating Islamic thought. He comes to believe that Islamic teachings should be seen as a set of ideas com- patible with rationality and scientific notions. In his analyisis, Abed al-Jabiri pro- poses three streams of Islamic epistemological models: bayani, burhani and ‘irfani. By exploring these three epistemological concepts, the author goes further by exploring the authority of text in Muslim society and how to contextualize and read religious texts in modern time

As a leading Maroccan Muslim thinker, Abed al-Jabiri in renowned for his idea of combating ‘irrationalism’ and that of promoting rasionalism in formulating Islamic thought. He comes to believe that Islamic teachings should be seen as a set of ideas compatible with rationality and scientific notions. In his analyisis, Abed al-Jabiri proposes three streams of Islamic epistemological models: bayani, burhani and ‘irfani. By exploring these three epistemological concepts, the author goes further by exploring the authority of text in Muslim society and how to contextualize and read religious texts in modern time.

Profitability Analysis of Zero Tillage among Smallholder Farm Households in the Karak Region of Jordan

    No full text
There is rich literature on the biophysical benefits of zero tillage (ZT) while that on its economic benefits, especially in the context of small and medium-scale farmers, is scanty. Using a combination of Propensity Score Matching (PSM) and Endogenous Switching Regression (ESR) models and a case study from a large project which promoted a number of technologies including zero tillage in the Karak region of Jordan, this study attempts to provide evidence on the profitability of ZT

In recent times, the learning of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) has been perceived to be closer to a radical religious perspective and intolerant behavior. This perspective is very likely to develop because PAI is indeed constructed ideologically. This ideological style is because the PAI curriculum comes from products of Islamic thought in the dogmatic era of codification. PAI dogmatism is caused by the partiality of epistemology in the construction of the PAI curriculum. In order to be able to get out of the ideological-dogmatic style, this partiality must be stopped. PAI can utilize the epistemological division carried out by Muhammad Abed Al-Jabiri. Al-Jabiri developed three epistemologies in comprehensive Arabic reasoning. The epistemology consists of bayani, irfani, and burhani reasoning. These three epistemologies can break the epistemological partiality of PAI and replace it to become more comprehensive and integrative. This article aims to find the formula for the three epistemological relations of al-Jabiri in order to reconstruct the PAI curriculum. The author uses a literature study of the work of Muhammad Abed Al-Jabiri to find a theoretical framework for the epistemology of bayani, irfani, and burhani. This framework was then formulated in the PAI curriculum and looked for the form of relations between the three epistemologies. The author developed an integrative circular relationship pattern using a thematic learning approach on PAI. Through thematic learning, the construction of knowledge built into PAI learning is the result of the integration of three epistemologies that are circularly interconnected. Through this approach also, students will be accustomed to constructing knowledge using three epistemologies in an integrative and circular manner

Structure-activity relationships of small molecule direct inhibitors of Keap1-Nrf2 interaction

The Keap1–Nrf2–ARE system represents a crucial antioxidant defense mechanism that protects cells against oxidative stress-related diseases and inflammation. Activation of this system leads to elevated expression of a variety of antioxidant defense proteins and enzymes important for protection against oxidative damage, inflammation and tumorigenesis. Targeting Keap1–Nrf2 protein–protein interaction (PPI) has become a promising therapeutic strategy for several oxidative stress conditions and inflammatory diseases including chronic kidney disease, pulmonary fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), and cancer chemoprevention. Several PPI inhibitors of Keap1–Nrf2 system have been reported; Tecfidera® is one of these inhibitors that is FDA approved for treatment of patients with relapsing multiple sclerosis. Inhibitors of Keap1–Nrf2 PPI are generally classified into direct and indirect inhibitors. Indirect inhibitors of Keap1–Nrf2 PPI are electrophilic species and can cause off-target side effects. Presently, scientists have been focusing on direct inhibitors of Keap1–Nrf2 PPI. In this work, we are focusing on the discovery of potent direct inhibitors of Keap1−Nrf2 PPI by performing a comprehensive structure-activity relationship (SAR) study in currently available scaffolds, or by designing new scaffolds. A fluorescence polarization (FP) assay has been used to evaluate the potency of synthesized compounds in vitro and cell-based assays have been used to test the most active compounds, resulting in the discovery of highly potent non-electrophilic Nrf2 activators. One of the best compounds discovered, 65v (LH835), has an IC50 of 144 ± 5 nM in the fluorescence polarization assay, and 1.7 ± 0.24 nM in a TR-FRET assay. Furthermore, we have demonstrated that the 65v (LH835) is an efficacious inducer of Nrf2 targeted genes in HepG2 C8 cells, exhibiting activity better than the well-known electrophilic activator, sulforaphane. Our direct inhibitors of Keap1–Nrf2 PPI could potentially be developed into drugs for the treatment of a number of oxidative stress-related diseases and conditions.Ph.D.Includes bibliographical referencesby Dhulfiqar Ali Abe

Pain Relief in Dental Local Anaesthesia with Vibrational Devices: Much Ado about Nothing? A Scoping Review

    No full text
In recent years, vibrational devices have been introduced in order to reduce patient discomfort in some situations such as orofacial pain, orthodontic therapy, and injection of local anaesthetics. This article aims to review the clinical experience given by the use of these devices in local anaesthesia. The literature search was carried out on the main scientific databases for articles up to November 2022. Eligibility criteria were established, and pertinent articles selected. The results were classified by author, year, type of study, sample size and characteristics, purpose of use, type of vibrational device used, protocol used, and outcomes. Nine relevant articles were found. These are split mouth randomized clinical trials which evaluate the reduction in pain perception with different devices and different protocols of use in children, during procedures which require local analgesia by injection, compared with traditional local anaesthesia with premedication based on anaesthetic gels. Different objective and subjective scales of pain and discomfort perception were used. Although results are promising, some data, such as those relating to vibrational intensity and frequency, are not clear. Evaluations on samples varying by age and context of use are necessary to fully define the indications for this type of aid during oral rehabilitation procedures

Modelling the behaviour of unsaturated non-active clays in saline environment

    No full text
The chemical composition of pore fluid and matric suction rule the mechanical behaviour of soils. In case of clays, their fabric changes in line with those variables. Since both the increase in matric suction and salinity cause a transition from an open to a close microstructure of low and medium activity clayey materials, a unique framework could tackle problems where salinity and saturation changes are expected. This paper presents a simple elasto-plastic model capable of reproducing the behaviour of unsaturated clayey soils in saline environments. Changes in the pore fluid composition are addressed through the use of osmotic suction as a variable. The proposed model extends the Barcelona Basic Model for partially saturated soils to consider the effect of osmotic suction. The model, implemented in the Thebes code, is calibrated for Boom Clay. The reproduced tests include mechanical loading at different matric and osmotic suctions in oedometric conditions, as well as more complex chemo-mechanical stress paths. Despite the simplicity of the formulation, the agreement between the experimental results and the simulations is encouraging. It seems that the modelling approach addresses the most important features of partially saturated soils with saline pore fluid which are slightly or moderately expansive
