There is the question if universities still conserve their capacity to endow critical sense (direction and reason for being) to what surrounds it or it has simply been subordinated to the instrumental reason. The relation between critical sense and instrumental reason, which on the one hand is still conflictive and on the other it is the root of the university’s productiveness, subduing the university only to utilitarianism would mean undermining its reason of being. The dilemma is not on how to conjugate labor in order to be functional in the market, but on how the development of people who are committed to a socially responsible life project conjugates with the production of knowledge that transforms society, which at the same time guides the university’s actions. Understanding the indivisible relation of organization – system, where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, leads us to understand the university as a living organism in which knowledge production is the aim, the means and the basis for people’s development, this university is strongly associated with the context, it feeds it and nurtures from it, thus the importance of turning to the environment in order to understand this living organization, the biomimetics of ecosystems not only combines the elements that make up the university from the perspective of complexity, but also enables us to understand the non-linear cyclical relationships, the interdependencies including the contradictory ones, the synergies that are mixed with the capacity for self-organization are fundamental of university autonomy, the need of redundancy to produce resilience, although many times it harms efficiency, the dynamics of its structures that are not stable over time, or the non-equilibrium balance of its fertility. In the University-Ecosystem, which are talking about, the only certainty is uncertainty, the ability to surprise and produce novelty breaking the cruel anesthesia of what is known, novelty that is the basis for questioning and modifying the justified and true beliefs, passing on as an evolution to another higher level, without fear of error, without excluding but without subduing to positivist reason, but rather giving dialogue an opportunity of knowledge between what can be considered true or real, leaving room for emotion as the fundamental engine of learning knowledge that is not taught but is self-explanatory, a university-ecosystem in which science is learned by doing science. The power of entropy allows us to understand information that is partially predictable, although practically unpredictable, through it we can see the way in which people grow and how their development interacts with common development, the analysis of the entropy allows the University-Ecosystem to be understood not as a chaotic disorder, but as a new unstructured order, because the freedom reflected in the exercise of autonomy and in the midst of an environment that enhances capacities, empowers the growth of people without exempting them from diversity, uncertainty and complexity, but endowing them with the ability to respond based on love, hope and trust. This University-Ecosystem would not be understood without the hurricane that produces relevant knowledge for people and society, a hurricane that absorbs the energy of its own functioning, just like a dissipative system, it exchanges knowledge with its environment and receives enough from it so that people can develop the growing and constant spiral of tacit-explicit knowledge, communicated knowledge calls for action and this generates greater knowledge, an uninterrupted spiral because the organization is a function of life and far from paralyzing control
