Hutan mangrove atau disebut juga hutan bakau merupakan hutan yang didominasi oleh beberapa jenis pohon bakau yang tumbuh pada daerah pasang surut. Pohon bakau berperan penting bagi kelangsungan hidup masyarakat. Akan tetapi, karena rendahnya pemahaman masyarakat akan manfaat hutan bakau, baik dari sisi lingkungan maupun ekonomi, kawasan hutan bakau di berbagai tempat di Indonesia banyak mengalami kerusakan akibat peralihan fungsi. Salah satu kasus yang terjadi adalah peralihan fungsi hutan bakau menjadi tambak di Dusun Pandansari, Desa Kaliwlingi, Kabupaten Brebes. Rusjan dan Mashadi adalah seseorang yang mempelopori kegiatan menanam pohon bakau di Dusun Pandansari yang memperoleh berbagai penghargaan, salah satunya adalah Kalpataru. Namun kurangnya informasi membuat masyarakat tidak mengetahui bagaimana perjuangan mereka mendapat penghargaan tersebut. Film dokumenter Membendung Laut adalah film dokumenter performatif yang mengangkat tentang upaya Rusjan dan Mashadi merehabilitasi hutan bakau di Dusun Pandansari. Dalam hal ini kepedulian lingkungan, kerja keras dan tekun yang terjadi pada Rusjan dan Mashadi yang menjadikan Dusun Pandansari yang dulu nyaris hilang ditelan abrasi kini kembali asri.

Writing from the shadowlands: how cross-cultural literature negotiates the legacy of Edward Said
No full textThis thesis examines the impact of Edward Said's influential work Orientalism and its legacy in respect of contemporary reading and writing across cultures. It also questions the legitimacy of Said's retrospective stereotyping of early examples of cross-cultural representation in literature as uncompromisingly 'orientalist'.
It is well known that the release of Edward Said's Orientalism in 1978 was responsible for the rise of a range of cultural and critical theories from multiculturalism to postcolonialism. It was a study that not only polarized critics and forced scholars to re-examine orientalist archives, but persuaded creative writers to re-think their ethnographic positions when it came to the literary representations of cultures other than their own. Without detracting from the enormous impact of Said, this thesis isolates gaps and silences in Said that need correcting. Furthermore, there is an element of intransigence, an uncompromising refusal to fine-tune what is essentially a binary discourse of the West and its other in Said's work, that encourages the continued interrogation of power relations but which, because of its very boldness, paradoxically disallows the extent to which the conflict of cultures indeed produced new, hybrid social and cultural formations.
In an attempt to challenge the severity of Said's claim that 'every European, in what he could say about the Orient, was consequently a racist, an imperialist, and almost totally ethnocentric', the thesis examines a number of different discursive contexts in which such a presumption is challenged. Thus while the second chapter discusses the 'traditional' profession-based orientalism of nineteenth-century E. G. Browne, the third considers the anti-imperialism of colonial administrator Leonard Woolf. The fourth chapter provides a reflection on the difficulties of diasporic 'orientalism' through the works of Michael Ondaatje while chapter five demonstrates the effects of the dialogism used by Amitav Ghosh as a defence against 'orientalism'. The thesis concludes with an examination of contemporary writing by Andrea Levy that appositely illustrates the legacy of Said's influence.
While the restrictive parameters of Said's work make it difficult to mount a thorough-going critique of Said, this thesis shows that, indeed, it is within the restraints of these parameters and in the very discourse that Said employs that he traps himself. This study claims that even Said is susceptible to 'orientalist' criticism in that he is as much an 'orientalist' as those at whom he directs his polemic
A clinical study to evaluate the efficacy of Mashadi Ghrita in Ksheena Shukra (oligospermia)
No full textBackground: Ksheena Shukra bears resemblance to Oligospermia, a condition where sperm count is below 15 million/ml. In Ksheena Shukra, both the quantity and quality of Shukra Dhatu are impaired, while Oligospermia specifically refers to a reduction in sperm count. Ksheena Shukra is classified as one of the eight types of Shukradushti in classical literature and is identified as a Vata-Pittaja Vyadhi.
Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of an Ayurvedic formulation named Mashadi Ghrita which was unexplored Aushadha Yoga explained in the text Vaidya Manorama’s Rasayana-Vajikaran Adhyaya for the management of Ksheena Shukra (Oligospermia)
Materials and Methods: 30 patients fulfilling the diagnostic and inclusion criteria were selected for an open labelled single arm study. They received the trial drug, Mashadi Ghrita in the dosage of 6ml BD before food with Ushnodaka (lukewarm water) as Anupana for the period of 60 days. The assessment was done on the baseline 0th day, 31st day, 61st day and 76th day.
Results: After the clinical study, the trial group showed effective results in mitigating Ksheena Shukra. On statistical analysis within the group, it showed the significant effect on the objective parameters like Semen Volume, Semen pH, Sperm Count, Liquefaction Time.
Conclusion: On statistical analysis within the group on different intervals, Mashadi Ghrita was beneficial in the management of Ksheena Shukra (Oligospermia). It showed improvement in the Lakshanas of Ksheena Shukra and seminal parameters

Due to day- to- day sedentary life style and Vata prakop causes Doshavaigunya and Dhatuvaigunya. When the vitiated Vata aggravates in Janusandhi called as Janusandhigata vata. In Janusandhigata vata Shoola (pain), Shotha (swelling), Akunchana Prasaranayoho Savedana Pravrutti (pain during movements), Vatapurna druti sparsha (crepitus) of the joint are common clinical features. In Niramavastha of Sandhigata vata, dhatukshaya is a major event. Upanaha sweda or poultice application is one of the chikitsa described in the management of Sandhigatavata under samanya chikitsa sutra of swedana. Mashadi Upanaha sweda is of Guru, Snigdha, Brumhana, Vataghna by property, mixed with Masha,Godhuma, Devodar choorna,Kanji, Tilataila, Godugdha, Saindhava decrease vitiated Vata dosha and gives strength to the joints.
