Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Effect of zinc supplementation on triglyceride and malondialdehyde levels: study on diabetic Wistar rats induced with streptozotocin
Background: Diabetes mellitus is associated with increased blood glucose and triglyceride levels, which can lead to an oxidative stress. Zinc (Zn) is a micronutrient that has antioxidant properties and involved in lipid and glucose metabolism. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of zinc on the levels of fasting blood glucose (FBG), triglycerides (TG), and malondialdehyde (MDA) in male diabetic Rattus norvegicus Wistar rats.
Methods: Diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of 40 mg/kg BW streptozotocin (STZ) and confirmed by FBG level higher than 200 mg/dL after 2 weeks. The rats were randomly divided into three groups: control group (STZ), treatment I (STZ + zinc 5 mg/kg BW), and treatment II (STZ + zinc 10 mg/kg BW). Zinc was administered by oral gavage for 30 days. At the end of the experiment, levels of FBG, TG, and MDA were measured. Data were analyzed using paired t-test or Wilcoxon test as appropriate.
Results: Supplementation of 5 mg/kg zinc significantly decreased the levels of FBG (pre-intervention: 328.95±70.90 mg/dl, post-intervention: 144.35±34.27 mg/dl, p<0.05), TG (pre-intervention: 252.48±26.30 mg/dl, post-intervention: 147.90±12.18 mg/dl, p<0.05), and MDA (pre-intervention: 12.11±6.46 nm/ml, post-intervention: 4.75±2.34 nm/ml, p<0.05). Moreover, supplementation of 10 mg/kg zinc decreased the levels of TG (pre-intervention: 275.62±56.25nm/ml, post-intervention: 165.58±22.63 nm/ml, p<0.05) and MDA (pre-intervention: 13.08±6.60 nm/ml, post-intervention: 5.08±2.40 nm/ml, p<0.05).
Conclusion: Supplementation of zinc significantly reduced the levels of FBG, TG, and MDA in diabetic rats
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Analysis of Determinant Factors in Stunting Children in Palopo, Indonesia
Stunting is a global problem, especially in Indonesia. The prevalence of stunting among children under five in Palopo city is quite high, namely 36.0%. Therefore, this study aims to determine the incidence of stunting and its determinant factors in children aged 12–59 months in Palopo city, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. This study used a case control design. The subjects of this study were mothers who have toddlers aged 12-59 months. sampling with purposive sampling. 200 samples were collected for analysis. Data analysis using odds ratios. The proportion of stunting among toddlers 12-59 months was higher in children under five with a history of normal birth weight (70.8%) and under five who had no history of infection (84.0%). Low family income for stunting toddlers (78.0%). The results of statistical tests showed that LBW (OR = 5.37), history of infection (OR = 2.53) and family income (OR = 6.30) were determinants of stunting. This study shows that the determinants of stunting incidence in children aged 12-59 months are low birth weight, infectious diseases and low family income
Relationship of Knowledge, Skills, and Cadre's Guidance with The Cadre's Activeness in Family Nutrition Support at Puskesmas Barana North Belopa in 2017
Posyandu cadres are community members who are willing, able and have time to organize Posyandu activities in a voluntary way. Factors associated with the liveliness of Posyandu are cadre's knowledge, skills and supervision. These factors can determine the activeness of community helath center cadres (Posyandu) to family nutrition support. This study was observational with cross-sectional design, the population in this study were all cadres in 9 units Posyandu in the work area of Puskesmas Barana North Belopa Luwu Regency. Sampling was total sampling, which were 45 respondents. Data collection used questionnaires. The data collected were then processed and analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis chi-squre test using statistic program (SPSS) 20. The table was presented in a 2x2. An univariate analysis was to find frequency distribution, in which bivariate analysis showed a correlation between knowledge and cadre's liveliness in supporting family nutrition improvement (p = ,000). There is a relationship between skill and cadre's liveliness in family nutrition support (p =,000), there is a relationship between cadre's guidance and cadre's activeness in family nutrition support (p = ,014). There is a relationship of knowledge, skills, and cadre's guidance with the cadre's activeness in family nutrition support at Puskesmas Barana North Belopa in 201
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
