Identity, face and (im)politeness
Face and (im)politeness are widely discussed and debated in the pragmatics literature. This special issue, which has developed out of a symposium presented at the 7th International Pragmatics Conference at Riva del Garda, Italy in 2005, aims to enrich our understanding of these concepts by examining them from the perspective of identity. The first three papers consider the conceptual insights that different (sub-)disciplines can offer for our understanding of face, (im)politeness and the management of rapport. They draw on work in social psychology on identity, and take a cognitive pragmatic perspective to deconstruct relevant emic concepts/lexemes. The next four papers present discourse-based research on the topic. They examine different types of identities, including role identities (e.g. leaders and mentors), national identities (e.g. Turkish and British), ethnic identities (e.g. Pakeha and Maori), community identities (e.g. Cyber-parish member), as well as individual identities, and analyse how these identities impact upon the (mis)management of face and rapport
Indigenizing the Postnatal Blues in Pakistani Context: A Psychometric Study
Postnatal Blues is postnatal psychological distress among new mothers. It is marked by partially exasperating physical and affective symptoms having significant etiological relevance for a more debilitating condition named Postnatal Depression. The absence of an assessment protocol for PNBs in Pakistan became the basis for conceptualizing the current research. It attempts to develop a measure for screening mothers for PNBs based on the indigenous expression and manifestation of PNBs in the Pakistani context. Semi-structured interviews elicited a list of 27 items from ten mothers experiencing PNBs and 25 relevant experts. The final list of 21 items, empirically validated by six pertinent experts and piloted on 15 mothers, was further administered to a purposive sample of Pakistani mothers diagnosed with PNBs (N= 88). The known-group validity and cut-off score of the Postnatal Blues Screening Scale (PNBSS) were established through Cohen’s d and Receiver Operating Curve (N= 107), respectively. PNBSS resulted in four factors, namely rudimentary blues, over sensitivity, emotional dysregulation, and somatic and cognitive disquietude with significant known-group validity (effect size = 0.9 -1.1); ROC curve (AUC= 0.853). The participants could not be isolated from their families for stage III assessment, which increases the likelihood of response bias. PNBSS has promising psychometric robustness for both clinical and research purposes. Being the first indigenous scale, PNBSS can serve as a foundation for the psychological assessment regime for Pakistani postnatal mothers and the benchmark for future research.

The protest fact in folk songs and Ruhi Su
This study aims to shed light on the character and works of Ruhi Su, one of the most substantial figures of Turkish music. The music of Ruhi Su bears the stamp of the pre- republic music in Turkey ;however, his music gets affected by the academic education he received and the westernization movement as well and reaches quite a different dimension. The melody and thoughts of Ruhi Su have a progressive aspect, he performs and pursues his art not in a vacuum but for people’s sake. On that sense, he tries to affect the cultural atmosphere in Turkey. On the purpose of comprehending the music of Ruhi Su, principally his biography is examined and after, his academic education and the effects of the prerepublic bards of Turkey are investigated. The political atmosphere and the social events in Turkey during the period Ruhi Su lived in and the effects of this period on the music of Ruhi Su are researched

Ali Ruhi Efendi And His constructive ctivities/functions in Cyprus
Ali Ruhi Efendi’nin hayatı hakkında pek fazla bilgi bulunmamaktadır. Girne’ye bağlı Gambili (Hisarköy)’de doğup büyüdüğü bilinmektedir. II.
We do not have enough information on Ali Ruhi Efendi’s life. We know that he was
born in Gambili (Hisarköy) which is a part of Girne. In 1826, during the reign of Sultan II.
Mahmud, he was appointed as the tax collector of Cyprus by Tersane Hazinesi. Ali Ruhi
Efendi fulfilled his service successfully and also in this period he had a lot of social
structures done. During his governorship period he built four fountains, a mosque, a
primary school, a library and a muvakkithane1. Ali Ruhi Efendi became famous on the
island with these building activities. For the maintenance of these buildings he also
established many vakfs.
In a period in which Ottoman empire start to regress, in the island of Cyprus that
host many kinds of ethnical identity, continuation of this kind of activities shows us that all
members of the population tried to come together around the common cultural values.
This study is about Ali Ruhi Efendi’s constructive functions. In this context, all the
constructions that he contributed to are studied for the first time under the same topic and
also we investigate the buildings that could not survive until today
Decoupled shifts of dominant and rarer fish species as a response to warming and extreme events in a large estuary
Disentangling community responses to multiple stressors in a warming context is one of the most challenging tasks ecologists face. Taking advantage of a long-term (1989–2017) and intensive fish monitoring survey (N = ~900K from 804 seines-day), we present a comprehensive analysis on the dynamics of coastal fish communities in Jamaica Bay, New York, by addressing multiple dimensions of community change that although closely related are rarely considered in a single work. Specifically, we tested hypotheses about changes in composition, composition variability and community functional attributes, and the role of environmental drivers acting at different temporal scales. Our analyses suggest two decoupled community dynamics triggered by two different extreme events. First, the 1999 Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation phase switch caused an abrupt shift from a single-species dominance to intermittent co-dominance, with species preferring higher temperatures, a shift that has persisted in time but that may be cyclical at a multidecadal scale. Second, the 2012 heat wave promoted an abrupt collapse of rare and cold-water species, and the sudden arrival of warmer-water species in a portion of the community that was already increasingly variable due to long-term warming. Functionally, the entire community subtly shifted toward species with faster turnover and lower trophic levels. Our work sheds light on the complex responses of biological communities to warming in terms of the impacts on composition, its temporal variability, and its functional dimension, by disentangling the interplay of long-term environmental trends such as warming, multidecadal cycles, and extreme events on different portions (i.e., dominant and rare thermal species) of the community.J.D.A. is currently supported by a “Ramón y Cajal” contract (RYC-2017-22783) co-funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, the Agencia Estatal de Investigación and the European Social Fund.Peer reviewe

It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards. The subject of this research project is the study of the relationship between arts and politics and Ruhi Su in between 1945-1980. Ruhi Su is an orphan folk artist. Since his childhood, he has made important studies on music and he has advanced in music career as an opera singer despite the impossibilities and difficulties. However, he was taken away from his profession and forced to a challenging life by political authorities until his death because of his political views. In this article, the interviews conducted with Ilgın Su, the son of the Ruhi Su, Refik Köksal, Karabey Aydoğan, who were students of Ruhi Su, and Nabi Belekoğlu who dedicated himself to study and research Ruhi Su and author of the book “Ruhi Su, ‘Sen Gittin Gideli’” together with Alâettin Bahçekapılı.
