The ‘Good Language Teacher’; An exploration of how preservice teachers in Chile develop their professional identity through the practicum
This qualitative research explored how a group of nine preservice teachers (PSTs) from an English language teaching (ELT) programme in Chile navigated their professional identities throughout their last-stage practicum. By adopting a sociocultural approach, where the good language teacher (henceforth GLT) concept is understood as PSTs professional identities, this study shows how PSTs encountered a series of challenges during this period that resulted in them indicating what aspects of their professional identity they consented to, and how they were shaped through a combination of personal lived experiences and trajectories, framed within a particular social context.A variety of conceptualisations about the GLT have been offered from researchers’ points of view, language teacher educators, and pupils in recent years, attempting to identify the desirable characteristics of the GLT. However, little is known about the understanding of the GLT from the PSTs’ point of view. By exploring how PSTs shape this concept through the practicum, light could be shed regarding how to improve the teaching practice, as teacher identity and practice are closely related (Barkhuizen and Mendieta, 2020).The data generated from this case study, through semistructured interviews, lesson observations, stimulated recall interviews, and focus groups, showed that despite PSTs conceiving the practicum as a valuable learning experience to learn to teach, the practicum offers them scarce opportunities to do so. One of the reasons identified is that the school’s and the university’s understanding of the GLT do not always correlate. While the university promotes communicative ways to teach English, school practices showed to continue to be very traditional, focusing moreon passive skills of the language. At the same time, this research shows how the way in which PSTs perceive pupils may have an impact on the teaching of English in a more inclusive way.In terms of the current national ELT policy, this research suggests that framing the teaching of English within a more local and contextualised pedagogy could benefit its understanding and implementation in contexts that are very deprived or vulnerable. At the same time, it is expected to better inform language teacher education programmes and teacher educators of the mismatches and power issues experienced during the practicum for PSTs, which tend to result in them adopting coping and complying behaviour that impacts on their professional identity formation

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Negotiating access and belonging in a higher education institution: a postqualitative narrative.
The purpose of this paper is to foreground accessibility as a necessary aspect of equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). We go about this by highlighting shared experiences of negotiating institutional ableism together, as a disabled scholar employed at a HEI in the UK, and a non-disabled, culturally and linguistically diverse individual employed to bridge inaccessible spaces. Drawing upon Wong’s (2023) conceptual framework of spatial belonging in higher education, which traverses the intersecting terrain of physical, digital, relational and structural spaces, we develop a postqualitative narrative demonstrating the limitations of narrowly defined legal protections that fall short of implementing inclusive ideals. The narrative draws attention to the ways that ‘access intimacy’, understood as shared commitments to accessibility, develops informally, which excuses HEIs from taking responsibility to institutionalise it. We contemplate accessibility as a relational concern and build an argument for learning from our experiences to inform the development of key accessibility considerations into institutional ways of working and relating to difference. The paper is significant for engaging principles from critical disability studies as conceptual means by which to consider accessibility, and the relational account provided contributes a collaborative perspective frequently experienced but not widely considered in higher education research for strengthening EDI

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
El caso Riffo-Salinas: consolidación de los derechos humanos de las personas mayores en el sistema interamericano
Social and legal constructions about older persons are changing, as the absolute and relative number of older persons increases, not only in the regions most advanced in the demographic transition but also in Latin America and the Caribbean. This chapter assesses whether the Riffo-Salinas case of the Plurinational Constitutional Court of Bolivia constitutes a good practice for the inter-American system based on: the kind of legal constructions on older persons; the integration of the ad-hoc instrument available to the Inter-American system for the protection of the human rights of older persons, namely, the Inter-American Convention on the Protection of the Human Rights of Older Persons; the inclusion or exclusion of the Inter-American standards established by the Court and the Commission; and the degree to which it manages to be a multi-legal system, converging national and Inter-American norms.
