Transcript (38 pages) of interview(s) by Becky B. Lloyd with Roger Richards on January 27, 2010Richards (b. 1947) was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He discusses his family, particularly his father\u27s battle with polio. Roger contracted polio at age 5 in 1952. He was sent to the Salt Lake County Hospital for a spinal tap and was placed in isolation. He relates his memories of the hospital stay, including a short time spent in an iron lung and later an oxygen tent. He discusses what he terms a miraculous experience that cured his polio. He left the hospital shortly after that incident and had some follow-up physical therapy at home for approximately one year. He wore no braces, special shoes, used crutches and had no noticeable residual effects. He has had persistent difficulty swallowing and weakened lung muscles. Mr. Richards discusses his difficulties with post-polio syndrome and its effects. His career has been in continuing the family business, Granite Furniture. This interview is part of the Polio Oral History Project. Interviewer: Becky B. Lloy

Evidence for the decay B0→J/ψω and measurement of the relative branching fractions of meson decays to J/ψη and J/ψη′

    No full text
    First evidence of the B 0 → J / ψ ω decay is found and the B s 0 → J / ψ η and B s 0 → J / ψ η ′ decays are studied using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb -1 collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 7 TeV. The branching fractions of these decays are measured relative to that of the B 0 → J / ψ ρ 0 decay:frac(B (B 0 → J / ψ ω), B (B 0 → J / ψ ρ 0)) = 0.89 ± 0.19 (stat) - 0.13 + 0.07 (syst),frac(B (B s 0 → J / ψ η), B (B 0 → J / ψ ρ 0)) = 14.0 ± 1.2 (stat) - 1.5 + 1.1 (syst) - 1.0 + 1.1 (frac(f d, f s)),frac(B (B s 0 → J / ψ η ′), B (B 0 → J / ψ ρ 0)) = 12.7 ± 1.1 (stat) - 1.3 + 0.5 (syst) - 0.9 + 1.0 (frac(f d, f s)), where the last uncertainty is due to the knowledge of f d / f s, the ratio of b-quark hadronization factors that accounts for the different production rate of B 0 and B s 0 mesons. The ratio of the branching fractions of B s 0 → J / ψ η ′ and B s 0 → J / ψ η decays is measured to befrac(B (B s 0 → J / ψ η ′), B (B s 0 → J / ψ η)) = 0.90 ± 0.09 (stat) - 0.02 + 0.06 (syst)

Letters exchanged in July 1983 between Lorenzo A. Richards and Theron B. Lee: (1) Letter dated 31 July 1983 from Lorenzo A. Richards to Theron B. Lee, saying that he will try to get to the reunion; (2) Letter dated 18 July 1983 from the organizing committee for the planned reunion of the class of 1923 of Box Elder High School, including Theron B. LeeJuly 18, 1983 Dear Classmates and Guests: This year marks the 60th anniversary of the 1923 graduating class of B.E.H.S. Few married couples ever reach that historic milestone. So leifs celebrate as never before time is marching on! Come as you are; we won\u27t notice the crutches or wheelchairs, we won\u27t mind the false teeth, the brown wig or the plastic hearing aid, which defy the ravages of age. After all, the class of 1923 is adrift in the same precarious boat, and the things that still make life worth living will furnish the fuel to animate our conversation of memories of long-gone better days. We will meet again this year at the Red Baron Kestaurant, 1167 South Main, in Brigham City: Friday, September 9, 19&3 lime: Cost: 5:00 P.M. to 10:00 P. (Dinner to be served about 6 P.M.) 7.00 per person, which includes tax and incidentals Payable at the door to Red Baron personnel. .Please make reservations at the earliest possible time, but not later than September 6th, by telephoning or writing to: Mr. & Mrs. Rudolph Kasmussen Mr.& Mrs.Theron B. Next year it may be a miracle to even get out of bed. We need your love and friendship to keep our precarious boat afloat. A good program is being prepared. Let\u27s make it a great class reunion.
