[Entretien avec Philippe Braud par Paul Bacot et Christian Le Bart], Mots, les langage du politique, n°116, http://journals.openedition.org/mots/23085Philippe Braud is the author of an essay in political sociology that is quite attentive to langage and that explains the importance he gives to the lexical and discursive dimension of langage in political practice. According to him, political struggles are first the stuggles for the legitimacy and relevancy of an action. His intellectual journey was marked by numerous and diverse readings, notably by the reading of US American academics coming from various disciplinary fields. His works on emotion and symbolism are the synthesis of many theoretical as well as empirical studies. This research revolves around the analysis of instrumental timbre in large ensemble works by five composers active since the late 1990s / early 2000s : Franck Bedrossian (Le lieu et la formule), Aaron Cassidy (The wreck of former boundaries), Raphael Cendo (CORPS), Timothy McCormack (kaarst) and Yann Robin (ARKHAM). Those works are subjected to a comparative typo-morphological analysis aiming to highlight the semiographic means of representing the timbral parameters, but also the physical movements of the interpreting bodies. This analysis is supported by a study of extra-musical (pictorial art, dance) and extra-classical musical influences (jazz, metal), as well as referencing the direct occurrences of physicality in the scores. Commented interviews with Bedrossian, Cendo, Cassidy, McCormack and Robin as well as a brief overview of my own experience as a composer complete this research. This methodology aims to highlight the diversity of the processes in use in contemporary notationnal practices aiming to both influence the instrumental timbre and the body of the performer. We are also observing how these two entities are linked, and noting the role of other artistic practices in the management of this interdependence through the prism of notation. For some of these composers, the scientific literature is also quite narrow ; a comprehensive base for future research is constituted, by adding to the analytical part a reading of their catalogs, clarifications as to their influences and realisations.

This study was part of the AVuPUR project (Assessing the Vulnerability of PeriUrban catchments, 2008-2011), dedicated to the observation and understanding of the impact of urbanization on the hydrological cycle in periurban catchments. We provide the results of a field campaign conducted in the Mercier catchment, a sub-catchment of the Yzeron catchment located in the Monts du Lyonnais, in the western part of Lyon city, France. The campaign was dedicated to the characterization of top soil hydraulic properties. Some data are also available at -15 and -30 cm depth.
The data set includes 66 sampled points with information of particle size data, dry bulk density and porosity, hydraulic conductivity at saturation and close to saturation for 46 measurement points.
We also provide estimates of the parameters of the retention and hydraulic conductivity curves for the various sample points.

Sample points were selected in the Mercier catchment (6.7 km2) by combining information about geology, land use and pedology. Two types of infiltration experiments were conducted: single ring infiltration tests with a positive pressure at the soil surface (3 replicates)(Beerkan method)_ and mini-disk infiltrometers using a -20 mm suction (0 to 3 replicates).
Apart from the present DOI, the reference paper to cite the data is Gonzalez-Sosa, E., Braud, I., Dehotin, J., Lassabatère, L., Angulo-Jaramillo, R., Lagouy, M., Branger, F., Jacqueminet, C., Kermadi, S., Michel, K., 2010. Impact of land use on the hydraulic properties of the topsoil in a small French catchment, Hydrological Processes, 24(17), 2382-2399, https://doi.org/10.1002/hyp.7640. The detailed description of data treatment can be found in Gonzalez-Sosa and Braud (2009) (in French and included in the .zip file) The data set in included in the compilation of soil hydraulic conductivity curves of Rahmati et al., ESSD, (2018) Grants: The study was funded by the French Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR) under contract no ANR-07-VULN-01. The sabbatical year of the first author in France was funded by Queretaro University (Mexico) and Irstea grants for visiting scientists. The Mercier and Yzeron catchments are part of OTHU (Field Observatory of Urban Hydrology)

Simulating the Emergence of Early Physical and Social Interactions : A Developmental Route through Low Level Visuomotor Learning

International audienceIn this paper, we propose a bio-inspired and developmental neural model allowing a robot, after learning its own dynamics during a babbling phase, to gain imitative and shape recognition abilities leading to early attempts for physical and social interactions. We use a motor controller based on oscillators. During the babbling step, the robot learn to associate its motor primitives (oscillators) to the visual optical flow induced by its own arm. It also statically learn to recognize its arm by selecting moving local view (feature points) in the visual field. We demonstrate in real indoor experiments that, using this same model, early physical (reaching objects) and social (immediate imitation) interactions can emerge through visual ambiguities induced by the external visual stimuli

Comparison of absolute and relative strategies to encode sensorimotor transformations in tool-use

    No full text
International audienceWe explore different strategies to overcome the problem of sensorimotor transformation that babies face during development, especially in the case of tool-use. From a developmental perspective, we investigate a model based on absolute coordinate frames of reference, and another one based on relative coordinate frames of reference. In a situation of sensorimotor learning and of adaptation to tool-use, we perform a computer simulation of a 4 degrees of freedom robot. We show that the relative coordinate strategy is the most rapid and robust to re-adapt the neural code

Grain-Size Components As Markers of Origin and Depositional Processes In the Coastal Zone of the Golfe Du Lion (Mediterranean Sea, France)

International audienceA study of beach and nearshore sands between the mouth of the River Aude and Cap d'Agde (northwestern Mediterranean Sea) shows the existence of four sediment types (ST): ST1 to ST4, with ST2 seemingly deriving from ST1, revealed by grain-size modal analysis and confirmed by a deconvolution program (LogNormal Deconvolution of Grain Size). Grain-size skewness is related to a much more persistent multimodality than graphic evidence can show. Multimodality results from mixtures of generally three STs and/or variants (the latter defining monotype grain-size distributions). Monotype mixtures are unequally distributed in morphodynamic zones, very abundant on the lower shoreface, significantly present on the berm and inner bar, but rare in the most dynamic zones (i.e., the collision zone and outer bar). On the berm and lower shoreface, modal values of the three sedimentary variants retain a close grain-size relationship. On the berm, where only bedload is present in the swash, monotype grain-size distribution trends towards a lognormal model. This trend can also be observed on the lower shoreface, where there are numerous monotype grain-size distributions (GSDs), possibly indicating a dominant process. When compared with ST1-dominated grain-size distributions of the outer bar zone, the distribution of the derived ST2 on the lower shoreface has an added fine tail derived from the coarse-skewed outer-bar sands. In addition, positive skewness of the lower-shoreface sands could indicate input of fine particles from deeper zones under the influence of shoaling waves and upwelling.Morphodynamic zones are approximately characterized by the distribution of grain-size indices. A change in the direction of the skewness sign can be observed between the shoaling zone and more energetic zones, from the breaker zone up to the berm. Finally, a more detailed description of the spatial properties of grain-size distributions could, first, help explore possible mechanisms underlying sediment sorting in the coastal zone and, second, provide a set of indices that would be of use in paleogeographic reconstructions and organization of basin borders, while improving discrimination and classification of environments
