    The commentary on De alimento, published in 1576 in the Giunta edition of Galen’s works edited by Girolamo Mercuriale, has been acknowledged by scholars as a forgery by Giovan Battista Rasario, a well-known physician and Greek scholar who had previously edited a Latin edition of Galen (Venice, 1562-1563). This contribution aims to describe and analyse a large specimen of the text edited by Rasario (commentary on ch. 17 of De alimento), pointing out some of the sources used for the forgery and proposing some reflections on the method of composition of the text

    Doping in performance sport is a complex and controversial issues. The secrecy that characterizes it hinders the implementation of epidemiological investigations. It involves the entire society. Moreover, the forces that conspire behind doping have always been able not only to identify new substances and new methods but also to steal the new scientific discoveries aimed at the treatment of diseases, for their illegal purposes. The fight against doping has had a strong push, in 2004, with the birth of the first World Anti-doping Code drafted by WADA. The laboratories, the Code, the Biological Passport and the ADAMS are important tools for the fight against doping. The aim study is to show the data relating to the consumption of drugs from 2003 to 2017. A number of the commonly used substances have been discussed and their risks and side effects reviewed

    A single amino acid substitution in highly similar endo-PGs from Fusarium verticillioides and related Fusarium species affects PGIP inhibition

    Endo-polygalacturonase (PG) may be a critical virulence factor secreted by several fungi upon plant invasion. The single-copy gene encoding PG in Fusarium verticillioides and in eight other species of the Gibberella fujikuroi complex (F. sacchari, F. fujikuroi, F. proliferatum, F. subglutinans, F. thapsinum, F. nygamai, F. circinatum, and F. anthophilum) was functionally analyzed in this paper. Both the nucleotide and amino acid sequences were highly similar among the 12 strains of F. verticillioides analyzed, as well as among those from the G. fujikuroi complex. The PGs were not inhibited by the polygalacturonase-inhibiting proteins (PGIPs) from the monocot asparagus and leek plants, but were inhibited to variable extents by bean PGIP. PGs from F. verticillioides, F. nygamai and one strain of F. proliferatum were barely inhibited. Residue 97 within PG was demonstrated to contribute to the different levels of inhibition. Together these findings provide new insights into the structural and functional relationships between the PG from the species of the G. fujikuroi complex and the plant PGIP. © 2007 Elsevier Inc.     La progettazione delle attività motorie e sportive nella scuola italiana

    Since the ancient civilizations to the contemporary age, human movement such as games, gymnastic, physical education and sports, have brought out different interests and values, sometimes antithetical, but which are the expression of a protean phenomenon capable of responding to the most disparate human needs in different contexts; and it is precisely in relation to the multiple contexts that distinct directions have originated different systems and methods of physical education. During the twentieth century the scientific-cultural demands and the historical-political contingencies that guided scholastic reforms and ministerial measures determined an evolution of physical education which, from military education without educational identity, gradually and also due to the combination with moral and civic education, has reached an autonomous disciplinary dimension in the contents and in the learning objectives, as well as the recognition of the interdisciplinary and transversal character for the global formation of the person. The present work, through a historical excursus and the analysis of the school's programmatic documents as well as some specific project experiences and the students sport games, aims to bring out the potentiality of Physical education and school sport to combine different training needs through a wide range of contents and methods.

    Effects of training fatigue on performance

    Training exposes athletes to various types of load, often beyond their tolerance threshold. This, without adequate recovery, leads to the accumulation of fatigue. Fatigue can negatively affect the athlete's performance capabilities in terms of force production and motor control. Coaches should have knowledge of the effects of fatigue in order to better plan training avoiding phenomena that qualitatively and quantitatively limit performance or the occurrence of injuries. The aim of the work is to clarify the effects of exercise-induced fatigue, differentiating between central fatigue and peripheral fatigue, in order to provide correct information to develop specific post-exercise and post-workout recovery strategies. The study was carried out through the recognition, by PRISMA method, in the scientific literature of the theories and practices validated and disseminated in the world of sport to optimize training plans. The study reveals a differentiation on the origin of fatigue: in fact, we speak of central fatigue and peripheral fatigue. Both have different effects on the muscle response to training. For this reason, it must be considered differently in the management of loads, in terms of intensity, volume, frequency and density, in order to optimize the programming for reaching the peak performance, without overtraining. The data have been utilized by personal trainer to plan for every type of athlete to reach a better individual performance

    Approaches to motor learning: Cognitive approach versus ecological dinamyc one

    The aim is to deepen the knowledge on the scientific evidence between the biomedical and pedagogical part and on the differences of the two approaches commonly used for teaching / learning processes: the cognitive and ecological-dynamic approach on one's own characteristics and specific paradigms. The retrieval of scientific literature took place through the use of specialized web research on: PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, PMCfreearticle, CrossRef by PRISMA method. Motor learning is the stabilized execution of a given movement, executive technique, or gesture. It means that in the face of a number of repetitions most are performed correctly. Cognitive approach places the person at the centre of the teaching / learning process, neglecting the inferences that the surrounding environment produces. Ecological-dynamic approach, which considers motor coordination as an organization emerging from the peripheral constraints of the system rather than from central control structures, is defined as ecological, since it does not consider the aspects of motor coordination within the individual but, more generally, the complex interaction between the individual and the environment and the circular relationship between perception and action. The characteristics and paradigms of two approaches highlight two opposite ways to motor learning with an unsolved problem on which one is correct to use in physical education and sports performance

    Physical commitment and specific work for each role in an elite soccer team

    The aim of this study is to detect the differences in physical commitment required for professional footballers and if there are significant effects between the preseason period and season of the championship (Second Division Italian); in order to, eventually there are not significant differences, to schedule specific work sessions for work groups (distinguished by role). The following quantitative variables have been detected: distance covered, energy cost, metabolic power, distance travelled in high acceleration and in high deceleration. The team was divided by roles into 5 groups (n=5) and each group included four players. The activities of the players were monitored using GPS technology with a sampling rate of 10 Hz and in relation to five different game positions: (CD) Central Defenders, (FB) Full-Backs, (M) Midfielders, (AM) Advanced Midfielders and (A) Attackers. It has been used the following descriptive statistic (average values, standard deviation, minimum and maximum values) and checking the normality of distribution (KS test, skewness and kurtosis), and 2x5 ANOVA. The results obtained during season were compared with that acquired at the beginning of the year (preseason) and significant effects there aren’t between the different groups
