Apology of Aristides: the author, the work and Christian identity
Reikšminiai žodžiai: Aristidas; „Apologija“; Krikščioniškasis tapatumas; Aristides; "Apology"; Christian identityFormation and definition of the Christian identity begins in the Letters of the Apostles, but it was more a response to the internal processes evolving in the community (a discussion on Jesus' authentic teaching, relations with Judaising trends, the status of heads and leaders of local communities, and the like). Construction of external restrictions and links forming a coherent whole began only in the second century. Aristides (the second half of the second century) was one of yhe first – and the first better extant –Christian thinkers that attempted a definition of the place of the Christian both historically and in the real present. Aristides' strategy is not only of delimination but also that of connections: his philosophical perspective is based on the Middle Platonism and the spreading cult of "God Most High", while the critique of the pagan religious absorbs its elements that are found not only in the Bible but in the Roman culture of that period as well. On the other hand, Aristides stresses the originality of the Christian lifestyle and ethics thus pointing to the fundamental vector of the dissociation from the surrounding culture

Abstract : The Fontamara novel, by Italian writer Ignazio Silone (1900-1978), is first published in 1933, by Verlag Oprecht und Helbling from Zurich, with a translation into German by Nettie Sutro. For political and ideological reasons, the text is prevented from circulating officially inside the Italian literary system, during the years of fascism. The author himself experiences a period of exile and cannot return to Italy, where he would be arrested by the fascist police, under the accusation of being a subversive element. In Brazil, the novel is translated by Aristides Lobo and published by Cultura Política in 1935, two years after its first edition. While considering the political tensions and social and economic changes taking place in Brazil in the 30s, and the role of translated literature within a culture, this study investigates the main motivations that lead to the publication of Fontamara in 1935, in Brazil. These reflections are made from the perspective of translation as rewriting, a conjecture proposed among other theorists by André Lefevere (2007), who deals with the role of rewriting within a literary system. The complex process of translation involves both the figure of the translator (rewriter ), as a mediator, as well as that of other agents who determine what kind of text may or may not circulate among the reading public, according to a scheme that Lefevere calls the patronage system

Abstract : This dissertation purpose is to study the editorial activity of Rui Ribeiro Couto and Renato Costa Almeida while these intellectuals were editors of a publication linked to the newspaper of Estado Novo (A Manhã). This publication was called Pensamento da America and was a monthly pan-American journal published between 1941 and 1949. However, this research focused on the period between 1941 and 1945, year that represents the end of the Second World War and the end of the Estado Novo. The focus was on the study of mechanisms that permeated the edition of an official publication, as well as on the relation between these intellectuals and the Estado Novo
The list of Aristides de Sousa Mendes: personalities of the arts
The purpose of this dissertation is to pursuit the goal to study some of the names of people related to arts that, while trying to escape from World War II, received a visa from the Portuguese consul, Aristides de Sousa Mendes, that allowed them to travel to Portugal. Also, the author will mention some of the works that directly or indirectly tell the story of the experience lived during those difficult times.
Aristides de Sousa Mendes was placed at Bordeaux as Portuguese Consul, at the beginning of World War II when a document issued by Salazar, Circular 14, restricted the action of all diplomatic staff, since it determined that consuls could only issue visas with previous authorization from the Ministry.
Disobeying to these orders, Aristides de Sousa Mendes issued visas to those who were in need of them, thus trying to save as many lives as possible. For this gesture, Aristides was convicted to a year of inactivity, earning half his salary and was afterwards forced to retire, without any opportunity to appeal. This compulsory retirement led to a difficult life considering his large family.
To the History remained a list with thousands of names, where we may find people related to Arts as Gala e Salvador Dalí, Friedrich Torberg, Robert Montgomery, Simone Gallimard, Hélène de Beauvoir, Margaret e Hans Rey, Tereska Torrès, among others
Pseudo Aristides: On political style and On simple style. Attribution and the nature of treaties
Pseudo-Arystydes: O stylu politycznym i O stylu prostym. Atrybucja i charakter traktatów
The main problem analysed in the article is the authorship of two treatises from the 2nd century AD: On political style and On simple style. The treatises have been preserved in Parisinus gr. 1741, a famous Byzantine manuscript from the 10th century kept at the National Library in Paris, as works of Aelius Aristides, one of the most eminent representatives of the Second Sophistic. Aristides lived in the years 117-180 and was the author of over 50 preserved speeches. After explaining the main reasons why contemporary scholars refuse to accept Aristides as the author of the treatises, the article presents more extensively M. Patillon’s attempt to find real authors of the treatises, made by the scholar in the latest academic edition of the treatises published within „Belles Lettres” series in 2002. His findings have been a direct inspiration for the author of this article to analyze again the testimonies of Byzantine commentators: Syrianus (5th century) and John of Sicily (10th century) in historical and literary context. In the light of this analysis it turns out that there is no basis for the division of the treatise On political style, adopted by M. Patillon, into part covering the explanation of the first seven “ideas” (& 2-128), treated as Basilikos’ (a 2nd/3rd-century sophist’s) work De ideis, and the second part including a brief theoretical explanation of the remaining five “forms” of style, treated as the work of Dionysius of Miletus, a little-known sophist. On the basis of Syrianus’ testimony there is a certain possibility that Basilikos was the author of the entire lecture on the “forms” of political style (& 2-140). But, in this case it should be explained first how the treatise De ideis, which was known to Syrianus in the 5th century and was included in the Suda in the 10th century, easily lost its author, became an anonymous work and in the very 10th century was copied in Byzantium under a different title as Aristides’ work. Similar difficulties are connected with the attribution of the treatise On simple style to Aelius Harpokration which was proposed by M. Patillon. Aelius Harpokration was a famous sophist whose rhetorical works, including On forms of style, functioned in Byzantine culture under his own name. Even if we question Byzantine attribution of these treatises to Aristides, we must continue to treat them as works of an anonymous author attributed to Aristides by tradition
