Penetration by Botryosphaeriaceae species in avocado, guava and persimmon fruit during postharvest
Botryosphaeriaceae species have a wide host range and a worldwide distribution. These fungal species can colonize several plant organs, such as the trunk, leaves and fruit. Some Botryosphaeriaceae species cause important diseases on persimmon, avocado and guava fruit. However, there is a lack of information regarding the mechanisms of penetration by Botryosphaeriaceae species on these tropical and subtropical fruits. This study aimed to better understand the mechanisms involved in fungal penetration, host specificity and aggressiveness of Botryosphaeria dothidea, Lasiodiplodia pseudotheobromae and Neofusicoccum parvum on avocado (Persea americana), guava (Psidium guajava) and persimmon (Diospyros kaki) fruit. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image analysis showed that in avocado fruit, the three studied Botryosphaeriaceae species penetrated through lenticels. In guava fruit, penetration through stomata was verified for Botryosphaeria dothidea and Neofusicoccum parvum. In persimmon fruit, an appressoria-like structure was observed for B. dothidea, which suggests direct penetration. Disease incidence in wounded fruit was 24% higher than in non-wounded fruit. L. pseudotheobromae and N. parvum showed differences in aggressiveness in guava fruit. The longest incubation period was observed for N. parvum inoculated on guava, with an average of 4.5 days, and the shortest incubation period was verified for B. dothidea inoculated on avocado, with an average of 2.8 days. The area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) did not differ between Botryosphaeriaceae species on avocado, whereas on guava and persimmon fruit, the AUDPC was lower for B. dothidea. The information regarding penetration mechanisms and aggressiveness is important to improve postharvest disease control strategies.EEA BalcarceFil: Ludwig Navarro, Barbara. University of São Paulo. Pablo Parellada, fustigador del Modernismo
abstract: ABSTRACT This research aims to investigate the work and impact of the prolific and popular Pablo Parellada y Molas. Although the author is now forgotten, he is an important figure regarding the struggles between Modernist writers and their critics. Pablo Parellada was one the key detractors of literary Modernism, a movement which he attacked through his parodies as evinced in his poetry, drama and short stories. His works contain the main pejorative features that would become the standard critique of these young poets of Spain in the early 1900's. Through the work of Pablo Parellada, this study seeks to understand the literary debates of Modernism in Spain that took place in the early twentieth century. Through this understanding, this study becomes important for it reveals the many personal characteristics that were attributed to the young Modernist poets. Some of these characteristics continued to be used by literary critics and as well became part of the collective imagination at the time and were still circulating several decades later.Dissertation/ThesisM.A. Spanish 201

“Innominate, unnamed, autonomous entities wondering around. From the deepest silence I find lost, starving gazes; biting looks, others that are absent. Anonymity... Some looks scream for others, even for mine... The characters that appear in this gallery of faces have caught me in some way; some are friends, or were. I have never met some of the others. However, they are all a part of me. This collection of intervened portraits is a humble homage to all anonymous beings in their purest essence. In this way, Pablo Bielli (Montevideo, 1969) introduces this series of photographs for dixit. This selection is part of the “Innominate” project, which he began in 2010, and continues developing it in different stages called albums. The author started his career in photography in 1987. He worked for several national and international media --diario El Obervador, Revista Posdata, Diario Clarín, América Economía, Editorial AVER, Revista Bla, Revista Cava Privada. Since 1998 he is a freelance photographer in the fields of advertising, editorials and international news agencies. For six years, he gave Lighting Workshop lessons at Foto Club Uruguayo.
Skin cancer is currently the most common type of cancer worldwide, representing more than 30% of diagnosed neoplasms. The main risk factor for the development of this disease is prolonged exposure to sunlight. Brazil has high daily rates of solar incidence, which makes skin care relevant and the practice of photoprotection measures relevant and fundamental. Based on this, this study aimed to evaluate the awareness and the profile of use of sunscreens among users of the Pharmacy School of the Federal University of Paraíba, campus I. It consists of a descriptive, transversal and quantitative study, with a sample of 107 users, of according to the spontaneous demand of the place. The data collection instrument used was a semi-structured questionnaire accompanied by the Free and Informed Consent Term, approved by the research ethics committee of the CCS / UFPB. Most of the participating individuals were women (61.68%), 18 to 25 years old (38.32%), brown (51.4%), with higher education in progress (37.38%). Most of the sample (59.81%) stated that they are exposed to the sun for 1 to 2 hours a day, usually between 8 am and 10 am (63.55%). Predominantly (39.73%), individuals apply sunscreen only on their faces and most of them use sunscreen with SPF 30 (39.73%). Only 35.51% of the participants said they used other means of photoprotection, such as caps, sunglasses and long clothes, for example. The majority denied the use of suntans (84.11%), skin lesions (89.72%) and family history of skin cancer (83.18%). This study revealed worrying data about the use of sunscreens and other means of photoprotection. Therefore, there was a need to promote health education actions for the population in order to raise awareness about the prevention of possible occurrences of skin lesions such as cancers and sunburns.O câncer de pele é atualmente o tipo de câncer mais frequente em todo mundo, representando mais de 30% das neoplasias diagnosticadas.
