Provincial Italy in ‘The Book about Sicily’ by Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz
Author of an article reads Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz’s Książka o Sycylii, an essay on Italian journey, as an approach on cognitive preference of hidden, provincial places. This assumption is presented with three aspects: relations between Poland and Italy, strangeness of Sicilians and encounter with mass tourist.7

“May It All Shine in the Sun”. Sicilian Reminiscences in the Poetry of Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz
In this article, Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz’s work appears as an attempt to consider the life and poetic dimensions of the experience of traveling to Italy. In the extensive literature on this literary genre, an important place is occupied by poems of Polish and European authors interested in Mediterranean culture, especially Sicily. Their authors are the most outstanding representatives of Polish literature, including the author of unique and extremely original Sicilian sonnets. These works are largely inspired by the friendship with the great Polish composer – Karol Szymanowski (creator of the opera King Roger, with libretto by Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz) and the uniqueness of the rich nature and culture of the southern part of the Apennine Peninsula
Melancholia versus tradycja. Jarosław Marek Rymkiewicz
In this article various manifestations of melancholy syndrome in Jarosław Marek Rymkiewicz’s
poetry created after 1989 are analysed. However, his previous works are also studied. The problem
of the relation of melancholy to tradition and the past in its classical understanding is researched
as it is of key importance for understanding the oeuvre of the author of Animula. Referring
to Harold Bloom’s theory, the author shows the melancholy relation of Rymkiewicz’s poetry
with tradition, first of all in reference to the poetry of Baroque and to Bolesław Leśmian. Rymkiewicz’s
melancholy also consists of the attitude to death which is present in this poetry and the
transgressive treatment of corporality as well as understanding of the language as the one which
from the very beginning is marked by the lack, traumatised and suspending communication
Jarosław Staruch 1910–1947 o tożsamości nazizmu i bolszewizmu
JAROSŁAW STARUCH 1910–1947 ON THE IDENTITY OF NAZISM AND BOLSHEVISMThe author of the article recalls views of Ukrainian ideologue Jarosław Staruch concerning the essence of Nazism and Bolshevism. Staruch presented his political thought in a book titled The Specter of Fascism. The book was written in Ukrainian and published by an “underground” printing shop in 1945. In 1946 its issue was renewed; Polish edition also appeared at the same time. The precise place of the book’s publication remains unknown. It is known, however, that Staruch’s manuscript was published on a territory which only a few years before had been occupied by German forces and which in 1945 — already for a period of two years — remained under Soviet control. The author was therefore intimately familiar with operating mechanisms of both of these totalitarian regimes. Broadly defining the identity of Nazism and Bolshevism, showing the origins of their emergence and their most important characteristic features, and warning against their consequences, Staruch emphatically claimed that both of these totalitarian systems are almost identical in nature.JAROSŁAW STARUCH 1910–1947 ON THE IDENTITY OF NAZISM AND BOLSHEVISMThe author of the article recalls views of Ukrainian ideologue Jarosław Staruch concerning the essence of Nazism and Bolshevism. Od Brna do Igławy. Husyckie misje dyplomatyczne z lat 1419–1436
From Brno to Jihlava. Hussite Diplomatic Missions in 1419–1436The author embarked upon the topic of diplomatic missions dispatched by the Hussites in 1419–1436 to political and religious opponents and neighbours. Attention is drawn to two fundamental purposes of such missions: religious (intent on obtaining consent to learn about Hussite truths of the faith) and political (attempts at finding allies in the struggle against Sigismund Luxembourg, and from a certain moment – ways of putting an amicable end to the conflict). Jarosław Nikodem is interested in the following questions: the context of each mission, its composition, the mandate received by the envoys(whenever more detailed pertinent information is available), the destination of the mission, meeting places, proposals and responses, the course of the meeting and its ultimate outcome. The author also wrote about missions dispatched to the Hussites, which, as rule, denoted consent for a continuation of further negotiations
Mythifications of reality in the poetry of Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz
Praca została zbudowana z trzech rozdziałów: dwóch pierwszych – teoretycznych i jednego poświęconego analizom i interpretacjom wierszy przeprowadzonym według klucza mitycznych rekreacji znaczeń. The analysis of JarosławIwaszkiewicz's poetic works shows that a certain immanent component of it is the issue of mythization, which in the case of this poet consisted in the author's shaping of the myth and cultural myths. The poet used the category of myth as a specific prism shaping the image of both places and people from life. In order to show the whole intricacy of the phenomenon of Iwaszkiewicz's poetic myths, it was necessary to mark the dialogue conducted by the author of Powrót do Europy in stanzas of poems and in the corners of memoirs and/or letters – very often it is memoir prose and epistolography that adds or complements individual lyrical creations. The work consists of three chapters: the first two are theoretical and one devoted to analyses and interpretations of poems carried out according to the key of mythical recreation of meanings. The most important thing here is to explain the concept of myth and various concepts of its interpretation, including the process of transforming a religious myth into a "literary" myth. The argument has been ordered according to the historical criterion – because the myth first appears in the world of religion, and only later in the world of culture in a transformed form. In the case of reflection on the critical reception of Iwaszkiewicz's poetry, the chronological order was also important. The knowledge about the previous interpretations of Iwaszkiewicz's poetry has been presented in separate chapters and woven into the discourse devoted to individual poems.Uniwersytet w Białymstoku.
