The Feminist Values Represented In Thomas Harris’ Main Character The Silence Of The Lambs
Through the novel the writer is interested with the feminist ideas and point of
view. First, the female character in this novel plays a big role where her career
achieves a better position in the society as a woman compared to many years before,
which the women should not have to be trapped at home, they also have the right to
get a proper job as men’s and also the opportunities in education and career. Women
have the chances to develop their lives outside the home. That’s the same goals with
the writer found the article entitled The Roots of Individualist Feminism in 19th-
Century America written by Mc Elroy (1988) states “women began to realize that
there were opportunities for them outside of the home, and that they could have a
place in the world as well as men”.
The second, the writer finds the images of women which are described in this
novel. The author describes the main woman character as independent, brave, active,
and strong. By using supporting male characters, the writer assumes that the author is
support feminist because he designs his woman character whose broke her traditional
women as weakness and passivity.
All the explanations above motivate the writer to analyze women’s image and
how their relation toward feminist point of view to assure that the author is support
feminist. The writer believes that this analysis is very important to be conducted. So, the writer entitles this research The Feminist Values Represented In Thomas

“We know it when we see it” is not good enough: toward a standard definition of plagiarism that transcends theft, fraud, and copyright
Many of the assumptions that inform the ways we respond to issues of plagiarism are based in laws and traditions that pertain to stealing or to copyright. Laws about stealing, however, assume key concepts that are at odds with the conceptual realities of plagiarism. The notion of taking something, for instance, carries with it the concomitant idea that the rightful owner is deprived of the use of that thing. Laws about copyright are similarly derived from the notion of a physical text being duplicated to make additional (physical) copies to be sold, implying that if copyright is violated, the rightful owner suffers (financial) harm. Neither set of laws appropriately addresses plagiarism, however, which can occur without depriving the author/owner of the work or the right to profit from it. This paper will differentiate the elements of plagiarism from those of theft and copyright violations, and attempt to define plagiarism in terms that accurately describe its essential elements

Segmentation of the Lungs on X-Ray Thorax Image with CNN Architecture U-Net
Lungs are one of the most important parts of the human body. They are very susceptible to various disorders and diseases. For this reason, it is necessary to detect or diagnose the lungs. In this study, we present a method for lung segmentation using the CNN method U-Net architecture. The initial stage was preprocessed did a 1-1 correspondence to equalize the amount of training data and testing data and resized the image so all images have the same size. The process continued with the CLAHE (Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization), and after that, the segmentation process was carried out according to the method. This study used a dataset from the Kaggle website. The results used the CNN method of the U-Net architecture in data get an average accuracy of 91.68%, sensitivity 92.80%, and specificity 89.15%, precision 95.07, and F1-Score 93. 92%. Based on the performance evaluation results, it was concluded that the method proposed in the study is great and valid in the lungs segmentation on X-Ray Thorax images

A Potential for Improving Honors Retention with Degree Planning
Students who begin in honors do not always complete program requirements. As an investigation into student retention, the author introduces a degree-planning workshop into a freshman seminar. The study involves two groups of students from different incoming classes: one (2018) participating in their degree-planning through the workshop and the other (2015) not. Students (n = 150) were compared against three retention criteria based on successive enrollment and withdrawal. Chi-square analyses reveal significant differences only for program withdrawal, indicating that those completing the workshop were less likely to be removed from the program due to lack of progress. The workshop group (2018) showed higher levels of voluntarily removing themselves from the program than the non-workshop (2015) group. Seminar materials, procedures, and learning outcomes are presented. Implications for future research involving additional student populations and achievement variables are discussed
First Impressions: Improving the Connection between Deaf Consumers and ASL/English Interpreters
abstract: This dissertation examines the first impressions that occur between Deaf consumers and American Sign Language (ASL)/English interpreters prior to a healthcare appointment. Negative first impressions can lead to a disconnect or loss of trust between Deaf consumers and interpreters and increase the risk for Deaf consumers to receive inadequate healthcare. The recognition of this risk led to an action research study to look at barriers to successful interactions between ASL/English interpreters and Deaf consumers. The mixed methods research design and associated research questions discovered factors and perceptions that contributed to the disconnect and subsequently informed a 10-week intervention with a small group of ASL/English interpreters and Deaf consumers. The factors that influence connection are system related and a lack of a standardized approach to using name badges, missing or incorrect appointment details, and an inconsistent protocol for interpreter behavior when a healthcare provider leaves the room. The intervention allowed the interpreter participants to generate solutions to mitigate these barriers to connection and apply them during the 10 weeks. Deaf consumer feedback was gathered during the intervention period and was used to modify the generated solutions. The generated solutions included re-design of an interpreter referral agency’s name badge, using small talk as a way to learn information about the nature of the healthcare appointment and proactively discuss procedures when a healthcare provider leaves the exam room. These solutions resulted in a positive influence for both interpreters and Deaf consumers and an increase of trust and connection. The findings of this study show new approaches that create a connection between interpreters and Deaf consumers and may lead to more satisfactory healthcare interactions for Deaf consumers.Dissertation/ThesisDoctoral Dissertation Leadership and Innovation 201
The Absolutely Relevant Remedy for Part-time Readers: Pairing Classic and YA Literature
Overview: During seventh and eighth grade, I read seventy-six young adult novels aside from required reading, with book logs from middle school to prove it. But, ask me what I enjoyed reading in high school, and I would have to think for a while. High school curricula forced me to read Shakespeare and classic novels without a hint of modern young adult literature involved. Not only did the uninteresting and outdated novels make classroom reading and assignments excruciating, but the distance between my life and the books that I was required to read discouraged my willingness to read much more. Barbara G. Samuels, a professor at the University of Houston, reports in her article, “Young Adult Literature: Young Adult Novels in the Classroom?” that, based on a 1975 study of English classrooms, the most commonly used novels were A Separate Peace, The Scarlet Letter, Lord of the Flies, and To Kill a Mockingbird (86). Now, these titles are from 1975, but they were the staples of my English curricula from 2010 to 2014. Thirty-five years later, I was a student sitting in a classroom still reading, analyzing, testing, and writing essays on the same old characters, the now historical context, and the unfamiliar language and syntax that required decoding. As Junior from Sherman Alexie’s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian would say, “I couldn’t believe it. How horrible is that?” (31). I still can’t believe it, it’s still horrible, and I’m still not much of a reader.
Author\u27s Reflection: My name is Claire Sauter and I am a Media Management major with an Ethics minor at St. John Fisher College. I am also a Service Scholar, the marketing chair for Students Who Advocate Volunteering (SWAV) club, a Peer Colleague for an English 101 course, and a member of the Teddi Dance for Love committee. I grew up in the small town of Carthage, NY, but my family is moving to the Adirondacks in the coming year.
Professor Barry began the Young Adult Literature RW course by asking the class questions about our favorite books, discussing novels we read in middle school and high school, and helping us to define YAL. I found that one of my challenges was shared among other students in my class – the high school English curricula did not help to inspire reading outside of school work. Turning my experience into a thesis, I argued that integrating modern and relevant young adult novels into the instruction of the English canon may help students continue to read for pleasure or curiosity even after their class is over. Developing the structure of this argument and balancing it with examples was difficult. However, the 199 course emphasized different outlining processes that greatly helped me and my peers. The freedom of the course allowed me to practice different writing styles, which is something that I never thought would be flexible within research writing. I enjoyed taking a risk and creating a conversation between characters within The Absolutely True Diary of Part-Time Indian and my own voice.
The 199 Research Writing course is integral to a college student’s development of writing skills. As part of the Fisher Core goals, the course has taught me how to develop an argument, navigate libraries and databases for relevant research, read critically for quality information, and compose long-form pieces of writing. Each skill is applicable to all educational programs at St. John Fisher and has helped me to analyze readings and write for classes ranging from Ethics and Multimedia Writing to Public Relations and Business Communications.
Mrs. Barry\u27s Summary: Claire came into my class with the skills of a good writer. What this class enabled her to do was couple those skills with her research skills to produce a writing that is not only worthy of 3690 but worthy of the attention of high school English teachers struggling to get their students to read the Classics. As far as my role in her writing, it was more of a conversation about her paper - where she wanted to go with it, how she went with it and what she might need to do more to make her argument solid. These conversations could be compared to what an editor might do with any good writer because Claire, herself, edited, re-edited and edited her work again before even coming to see me. So, in our meetings, we actually talked. It was truly a pleasure “talking” with Claire
