Anomaly Detection of Wire Arc Additively Manufactured Parts via Surface Tension Transfer through Unsupervised Machine Learning Techniques

    No full text
Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) has recently gained significant attention from the research community as it offers potential for notable time and cost reduction compared to other technologies. To enhance the overall quality of products, the ability to detect defects in real-time is a subject of great interest. Accordingly, this work investigates the effectiveness of diverse semi-supervised anomaly detection algorithms based on machine learning for online defect detection in WAAM. Deposition data in terms of welding voltage and current during a Surface Tension Transfer welding process on mild steel samples are used. Twelve statistical features are extracted in the time and frequency domains to identify defects as anomalies with a sample rate of 1 s with a maximum achieved accuracy of 91.9%. The obtained results provide valuable insights into the efficacy of machine learning for online defect detection in WAAM, which can be leveraged to enhance product quality and reduce costs

A recently re-discovered Maltese-English dictionary by Salvu Mamo: Presented at Cultural and Historical Lexicography session

A recently re-discovered Maltese-English dictionary by Salvu Mamo might provide an insight into the state of the Maltese language and that of the use of English at the end of the 19th century. The British had been in Malta since the beginning of the century, but their several attempts to anglicize the Maltese produced negative results. By 1880, Governor Bouverie's 1830 call that "this colony should be English, not Italian" was still on paper. For centuries Italian had been the official language of Malta, although the Maltese spoke the vernacular. In 1878 the British Government sent Patrick Keenan, the man responsible for the anglicization of Ireland, to attempt a repeat performance in Malta. His views met with fierce opposition, but it might well be that the publication by the same Mamo of an English-Maltese dictionary in 1885 was due to this campaign. This dictionary is actually dedicated to the Maltese Director of Education who was in charge of government's pro-English programme. The Maltese-English sequel never saw the light of day, and little is known about the author. He certainly did not belong to the literary circles of the time. In the early 1930s, when Maltese took the place of Italian in the Maltese educational system and in the Courts, Government acquired the manuscript from Mamo's family to serve as a basis for a Maltese-English dictionary. Actually little use seems to have been made of it, and it lay at the Department of Education till a bomb fell on the place and it was destined to be thrown away. Luckily, a teacher spotted this and other manuscripts ready to be wheel-barrowed, and picked up a few for himself. There it lay till he told me about it some 5 years ago, and was recently persuaded to have it published; not an easy task

abstract: This study is designed to understand the patterns of selection, preparation, retention and graduation of undergraduate pre-licensure clinical nursing students in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University enrolled in 2007 and 2008. The resulting patterns may guide policy decision making regarding future cohorts in this program. Several independent variables were examined including grades earned in prerequisite courses; replacement course frequency; scores earned on the Nurse Entrance Test (NET); the number of prerequisite courses taken at four-year institutions; race/ethnicity; and gender. The dependent variable and definition of success is completion of the Traditional Pre-licensure Clinical Nursing Program in the prescribed four terms. Theories of retention and success in nursing programs at colleges and universities guide the research. Correlational analysis and multiple logistic regression revealed that specific prerequisite courses--Human Nutrition, Clinical Healthcare Ethics, and Human Pathophysiology--as well as race/ethnicity, and gender are predictive of completing this program in the prescribed four terms.Dissertation/ThesisPh.D. Public Administration 201

    Józefa Tischnera koncepcja „Ja aksjologicznego”

    No full text
The author of this paper deals with the issue of the “axiological I” in the Jospeh Tischner’s philosophy of drama, looking for the answer on the following question: why the values? Because man lives in the world of values. The space of human life is penetrated by a certain axiological order. Yet rises a question, is the world of values something else from man himself? A fundamental, objective condition of the experience of values is the “axiological I”. In the “agathologic range” the “axiological I” is a core that forms the selfness. Without the “axiological I” the love would not be possible. The “axiological I” is the condition of love, which have a dialogic character. It discovers the value of the “axiological I” and is fascinated by it.Autor podejmuje temat „Ja-aksjologicznego” w filozofii dramatu Józefa Tischnera poszukując odpowiedzi na pytanie: dlaczego wartości?

The matter of this paper is the ethics of masculinity in the contemporary world from the perspective of the figure of St. Joseph. As a “just man” St. Jospeh has been understood in the writings of St. Alphon M. Liguori as a man who posseses all the virtues. Starting from this assertion the autor developes the ethics of masculinity. In the first point is the speach about the masculine form of justice. The next point concerns somes problem with the masculinity in the contemporary world. At the end of this article the author speaks about concrete proposes for the masculinity of our days on the base of the figure of St. Joseph. The paper presents possibility of morality, that abandons the paradigm of control and dominion and embraces the style of sharing and of caring.

Rozbudowa otwartych zasobów naukowych Repozytorium Uniwersytetu w Białymstoku – kontynuacja, dofinansowanego z programu „Społeczna odpowiedzialność nauki” Ministra Edukacji i Nauki na podstawie umowy BIBL/SP/0040/2023/01.The idea and identity of the Holy Spirit is difficult to grasp. Attempts to explain selected aspects of pneumatology have been made by some Catholic theologians, such as Romano Guardini, Hans Urs von Balthasar and Joseph Ratzinger. Each of them interprets the problem with reference to christology, ecclesiology and anthropology. The article presents the differences between the three authors' approaches, which determines the texts' composition. Part One is dedicated to Romano Guardini's reflection on the Holy Spirit. In the next section the author discusses Hans Urs von Balthasar's idea of the Third Person of the Holy Trinity. Part Three weighs the problem of Jospeh Ratzinger's contribution to the doctrine of the Holy Spirit.È difficile da catturare I'essenza e I'identità delio Spirito Santo.

Vortex structure and dynamics of Florida Keys waterspouts: 1974 field experiment, final report

Includes 2 different reprints of the article: Waterspout wind, temperature and pressure structure deduced from aircraft measurements by Verne H. Leverson and Peter C. Sinclair, Jospeh H. Golden.Includes in its entirety Verne H. Leverson's M.S. thesis, "Waterspout structure and dynamics."From direct penetrations of the waterspout funnel by specially instrumented aircraft, a quantitative description of the dynamic-thermodynamic structure of the waterspout has been developed. The Navier-Stokes equations of motion for the waterspout vortex are simplified by an extensive order of magnitude analysis of each term in the equations. The reduced set of equations provides a realistic mathematical model of the waterspout vortex. Further simplification shows that the cyclostrophic-Rankine combined vortex model accounts for, on the average, approximately 63% of the measured pressure drop from the environment to the waterspout core. The penetration measurements show that the waterspout funnel consists of a strong rotary and vertical field (radial component is smaller) of motion which results in a combined flow pattern similar to that of a helical vortex. In general, the measurements indicate that this one-cell vortex structure is the dominate configuration. However, several penetrations suggest reduced positive vertical velocities near the funnel core, and in one case, a downdraft core with vertical velocity of -0.8 msec-1. These measurements indicate that waterspout vortex may in some stages of development have a structure more closely described by the two-cell vortex such as discovered by Sinclair (1966, 1973) for the dust devil vortex. The temperature and pressure structure show that the waterspout, like the dust devil, is a warm core (ΔT = 0.1 to 0.5°C), low pressure (ΔP = -0.6 to -8.4 mb) vortex. All aircraft penetrations of the visible funnels were made within 150 m of cloud base at speeds of 55-65 msec-1
