Contribution of N. I. Pirogov to the development of domestic surgery
The article considers the contribution of N. I. Pirogov to the development of domestic surgery. Special attention is paid to his efforts in military field surgery, the use of anesthesia and hygiene directly on the battlefield. His proposals for sorting and evacuation of the wounded were considered.
The Scientific and Pedagogical Heritage of Doctor N. I. Pirogov
The aim: was to analyze the scientific and pedagogical heritage of N.I. Pirogov, which remains relevant in the modern medical and pedagogical community, and opens new little-known pages of the scientific, pedagogical and medical activity of the doctor. Materials and methods: The authors conducted a thorough analysis of scientific publications by N.I. Pirogov and papers devoted to his activity as a doctor, educator and
researcher using analytical, comparative and bibliosemantic methods. Conclusions: The study suggested the new chronological boundaries in the scientific and educational heritage of N.I. Pirogov. The developed periodization accurately reflects
the beginning of his scientific and pedagogical path in medical education, specifically refers to the period of his work in Germany as a supervisor of professorial candidates from 1862 to 1866, and the period of his participation in Sevastopol (Crimean) campaign and in the Franco-Prussian War, which was very important for the development of
military field surgery
Heritage of N. I. Pirogov and its impact on modern medical science (to 200 anniversary of the birth)

Российская академия медицинских наук, Москва, Российская Федерация, Винницкий национальный медицинский университет им. Н. И. Пирогова, Винница, УкраинаThe article analyzes the work N. I. Pirogov, who formed the foundation for the development of modern trends in medicine. The works of
N. I. Pirogov covered a wide range of critical issues of clinical and theoretical medicine, pathology, pathological anatomy, such as clinical and
biological analysis of inflammation, suppuration, bone pathology, infectious diseases and their control. N. I. Pirogov focused much attention on
experimental studies on the development of collateral circulation, pathology, wound healing, shock, and plastic surgery. N. I. Pirogov - creator
of the topographic (surgical), anatomy, health organizer, scholar-thinker, and teacher.

The Dutchman Herman Boerhaave and the Russian Nikolay Ivanovich Pirogov are brilliant medical scientists, whose remembrance will be eternal
The Dutchman Herman Boerhaave (1668–1738) and the Russian Nikolay Ivanovich Pirogov
(1810–1881) were brilliant physicians who made significant contributions to the practice of
medicine. Herman Boerhaave graduated as a doctor in 1693 and eventually became professor
of medicine, botany and chemistry at the University of the city Leiden. He is perhaps best
known as a teacher and for introducing bedside teaching to the medical curriculum. Nikolay
Ivanovich Pirogov qualified as a physician in 1828 at the Moscow University, was awarded
with his PhD at the German-Baltic University of Dorpat in 1832. In 1836 he was appointed as
a professor in Dorpat and in 1841 as professor of surgery and applied anatomy at the Imperial
Medico-Surgical Academy in St. Petersburg. Scientific achievements of N. I. Pirogov in medicine
are multifaceted: he is the originator of unique technologies for studying the structure
of a human being and developed anatomical atlases on these technologies. He was a virtuoso
surgeon, an early adopter of ether anaesthesia, and innovator of medical triage and evacuation
of the wounded. Why in one article a comparison the scientific achievements of these two brilliant
personalities, who have entered the world history of medicine, are investigated, becomes
clear from the words of N. I. Pirogov, who greatly appreciated Herman Boerhaave. Pirogov
wrote that “…he did not consider himself an equal to Herman Boerhaave…” Was Pirogov
right or were it modest words, this is up to the reader to decide. The influence of Anglo-Saxon
literature and scientific schools, the role of Herman Boerhaave in the professional development of N. I. Pirogov, and the innovations created by them in medicine were analysed on basis
of archival documents
Algorithmic Pirogov-Sinai theory
We develop an efficient algorithmic approach for approximate counting and
sampling in the low-temperature regime of a broad class of statistical physics
models on finite subsets of the lattice and on the torus
. Our approach is based on combining contour
representations from Pirogov-Sinai theory with Barvinok's approach to
approximate counting using truncated Taylor series. Some consequences of our
main results include an FPTAS for approximating the partition function of the
hard-core model at sufficiently high fugacity on subsets of with
appropriate boundary conditions and an efficient sampling algorithm for the
ferromagnetic Potts model on the discrete torus at
sufficiently low temperature.Comment: We fixed a typo in the series expansion for log Z(z) on page 2
Biochemical Characteristics and Elemental Composition Peculiarities of Rheum tataricum L. in Semi-Desert Conditions and of European Garden Rhubarb.
Biochemical and mineral peculiarities of plants inhabiting desert and semi-desert ar eas may provide important information about the mechanism of their adaptability and reveal the
prospects of their utilization. Rheum tataricum L., known for its high tolerance to drought, salin ity, and nutritional deficiency, is the least studied species of wild rhubarb. Using biochemical
and ICP-MS analysis, the antioxidant status and mineral composition of R. tataricum were deter mined. Extremely high levels of antioxidant activity (148–155 mg GAE g−1 d.w.), polyphenols
(24.6–25.1 mg GAE g−1 d.w.) and carotenoids (1.94 mg-eq β-carotene g−1 d.w.) were revealed in
roots, proline in leaves (71.1 ± 6.2 mg kg−1 d.w.) and malic acid in stems (3.40 ± 0.50 mg g−1 d.w.).
Compared to garden rhubarb, R. tataricum demonstrated significant root–leaves translocation of Li,
Se, Si, and Mo, known to participate in plant antioxidant defense. Under high levels of Ca, Na, Mg,
Fe, Cr and Si in soil, R. tataricum demonstrated the ability to significantly increase the accumulation
of these elements in roots, showing a hyperaccumulation ability for Sr. The first broad picture of
R. tataricum biochemical and mineral characteristics in semi-desert habitat and its nutritional value
indicate the prospects of R. tataricum utilization in plant breeding, medicine, and nutrition

A Multi-Language Comparison of Influences on Author Verification using Character N-Grams
We create a new multi-language corpus for author verification based on Wikipedia talkpages, and evaluate the influence that differences in topic and time have on character n-gram author profiles. Topic alignment between two texts is found to increase author verification precision, and an authors writing style is found to change over time, but not more significantly after 3 years than after 1 year.Information ArchitectureWISElectrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Scienc
