Il tempo svelato... Da Felsina a Bononia: lo scavo di via D'Azeglio
No full textIl volume costituisce la guida alla mostra dedicata ai materiali archeologici rinvenuti nello scavo urbano effettuato a Bologna negli anni 2006-2009, nella piazzetta racchiusa fra via D’Azeglio e via Tagliapietre, in concomitanza con la realizzazione di un parcheggio multipiano.
La guida racchiude un percorso lungo quasi tre millenni, un vero e proprio “cammino” a ritroso nel tempo che partendo dall’età medievale, si inoltra nell’epoca romana, fino a raggiungere la prima età del Ferro con i ritrovamenti etruschi e della fase villanoviana orientalizzante. I risultati presentati sono frutto della collaborazione tra studiosi di varie discipline e forniscono un quadro complesso della frequentazione di una parte di territorio ancora oggi densamente urbanizzato, oltre ad approfondimenti interessanti non solo dal punto di vista archeologico ma anche sotto il profilo ambientale e faunistico
Inhaled corticosteroids in COPD: Trying to make a long story short
Full text linkThe use of inhaled corticosteroids (ICSs) in long-term treatment of COPD has been a debated topic for a long time. According to the evidence produced till now, ICSs are presently advocated in combination with long-acting bronchodilators for high-risk sympto-matic COPD patients with a history of frequent COPD exacerbations. However, the hetero-geneity of COPD patients in terms of prevalent underlying disease, with its associated biological and functional characteristics, and different types of exacerbation makes this recommendation highly questionable. This review aims to discuss the usefulness of ICSs in the pharmacological management of COPD and trys to detect those aspects that may likely anticipate a beneficial response following their therapeutic use related to respiratory function, functional decline, prevention of exacerbation, and quality of life. In this respect, the BERN acronym, meaning Bronchiolitis, Eosinophilia, Responsiveness to bronchodilator, and Non-smoker, may be of practical utility to select among COPD patients those that can take more advantage from ICS adoption when positive and vice versa when negative
Structural imaging outcomes in subjective cognitive decline: Community vs. clinical-based samples
No full textSubjective cognitive decline (SCD) has been proposed as a preclinical stage of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Neuroimaging studies have suggested early AD-like structural brain alterations in SCD subjects compared to healthy controls. However, there is substantial heterogeneity in the results, which might depend on whether SCD samples were drawn from the community or from memory clinics. Here we reviewed brain atrophy, assessed through structural magnetic resonance imaging, separately for SCD-community and clinic-based samples. SCD-community samples show a more consistent pattern of atrophy, involving the hippocampus and temporal and parietal cortices. Similarly, in SCD-clinic samples the temporo-parietal cortex showed early vulnerability, however these studies reported a more heterogeneous atrophy pattern. Overall, these studies suggest both commonalities and differences in brain atrophy patterns between SCD clinical and community samples. In SCD-community, the temporal cortex is involved, while SCD-clinical exhibited a more complex pattern of atrophy, which may be related to a more heterogeneous sample reporting neuropsychiatric symptoms along with preclinical AD
Osservazioni sulla morfologia del Cryptocephalus pini L.
Full text linkSono state esaminate e descritte le caratteristiche morfologiche di diversi stadi del Cryptocephalus pini L., in particolare della larva neonata, della larvamatura e della pupa. La neonata è stata confrontata con quella del C. marginatus
ab. discoidalis Burlini e con quella, illustrata da FIORI (1951), del C. frenatus Laich. L\u27esame comparato delle tre specie, effettuato su preparati microscopici, nel caso del C. pini e del C. marginatus, e sui disegni di FIORI (1951), nel caso del C. frenatus, non ha rivelato diversità di struttura o di chetotassi degne di nota, né tanto meno utilizzabili come caratteri differenziali di immediato o almeno facile rilievo. Si è cercato, in questa sede, di fissare alcuni punti essenziali, quali, per esempio, gli schemi della chetotassi larvale, allo scopo di facilitare un eventuale confronto tra diversi stadi preimmaginali dei Cryptocephalini. Solo in seguito a tale confronto sarà possibile stabilire con sicurezza se, nel caso delle larve mature, la differenziazione dei caratteri utilizzabili ai fini tassonomici, notata neì corso dello sviluppo del C. pini, si manifesti nell\u27ambito del genere secondo modalità tali da consentire un\u27agevole separazione delle specie
