Skriveni sukobi sa neortodoksnim prevodiocem: doprinosi Dore Gabe jevrejskoj štampi u Bugarskoj

    No full text
The article presents the contributions of Dora Gabe to the Jewish newspaper „Maccabi“, published in Sofia from 1920 to 1940. She cooperated with the paper both as a translator and an original author. Gabe’s texts in „Maccabi“ have not been reprinted and are almost forgotten. This factor explains why they need to be revisited. First, I trace Edmond Fleg’s influence on Gabe’s ideas on Jewish identity, as the poet is a vivid promoter and a keen translator of Fleg’s work. Then this topic is represented in light of a hidden conflict between other journalists from Maccabi circles and Dora Gabe. The main argument of the text is that Gabe was criticized not only for assimilating into Bulgarian society but mostly because of her feminist ideas and her original, paradoxically anti-national viewpoints on the Zionist movement.U članku su predstavljeni doprinosi Dore Gabe jevrejskom listu „Makabi“, koji je izlazio u Sofiji od 1920. do 1940. godine. Tema ovog broja: "Balkanske Jevrejke" (the topic of this issue: "Balkan Jewish women")

Gabe Halak Batak; Batak Toba Ethnic Bodiedness Traditions as a Reference for Actor Training

    No full text
Gabe Halak Batak is a term that was born from research on the bodiedness traditions of the Batak Toba people which means "Being a Batak Person". This research was conducted to take advantage of the bodiedness traditions of the Batak Toba Ethnic Community, one of which is Tortor. The author\u27s interest in the tortor is because there are basic techniques in the tortor which are named metaphorically and through this naming can be an \u27entrance\u27 for actors in the process of exploring their physiology. In this study, the authors implemented it for actors from the Aka Bodi Theatre group in Medan who came from three different ethnicities. This study uses ethnographic and autoethnographic approaches in collecting data and interrogating the process of physiological exploration applied to acting training at the Aka Bodi Theatre. The results obtained are that each actor who participates in the training process experiences a variety of sensitivities related to the Batak Toba ethnic culture and has visual references regarding the creation of actions in the training

    No full text
(Autor)This thesis describes theoretical and empirical aspects of the promotion of spatial-visual imagination by means of the third Froebel gift at a vocational special school. Although Froebel\u27s material has been known to pedagogues for almost 200 years, it seems that it has never been used in settings specific to vocational schools. There are also no references to empirical studies on the use of the material from early childhood education institutions or schools. In order to at least partially fill this research gap in relation to the use of the material in schools, this paper is structured in two parts: In the first part, the theoretical foundations of Froebel, his biography, his system of giving and his understanding of mathematics are examined. The second part is followed by an empirical study to test the effectiveness of the third Froebel gift as a support material in mathematics lessons. (Author

Mapping Whidbey Island and Possession Sound landslide susceptibility using an additive linear model

    No full text
Senior thesis written for Oceanography 445[author abstract] The Puget Sound region has a multitude of natural disasters dating back over thousands of years. Due to extreme weather conditions and seismic activity landslides have been a frequently occurring disaster. Multiple landslides occur annually causing massive destruction. Using an additive linear model including four landslide inducing factors: slope, aspect, topographic position index, and ground type, a susceptibility model will be produced to model landslide susceptibility in Possession Sound and on the southeastern coast of Whidbey Island. The additive linear model is a foundational method for landslide hazard analysis and needs to be implemented in the Puget Sound.University of Washington School of Oceanograph

Modeless Sketch Interaction Using Flow Select

    No full text
Flow selection is a time-based modeless selection and operation technique for freehand drawing and sketch tools. Flow selection offers a modeless technique to address the observation that modal selection requires too much cognitive effort and causes breakdowns in creative flow. Flow selection provides input to a new class of operations by assigning increasing, fractional selection strengths to objects over time. We discuss the current prototype system and possible applications for this novel technique for interacting with sketches. Author Keywords Sketch, mode, time-based selection, pen, stylus, flow selec

What has globalization done to developing countries’ public libraries?

    No full text
The goal of this article is to highlight the major trends in the establishment of public libraries in developing countries under conditions of globalization. Based on a review of research from library history and the sociology of culture, the author develops hypotheses about the conditions under which public libraries are likely to be established in relatively large numbers in developing countries. Analysis of historical trends in library establishments and crisp-set qualitative comparative analysis of UNESCO data on public libraries in six developing nations reveal that globalization is associated with decreasing or flat numbers of public libraries on a per capita basis. The only observed exceptions are Malaysia and Chile, where public libraries have been established in large numbers partly for purposes of national integration as a counter to sectarian and ethnic heterogeneity. Implications of these findings for research in the information society paradigm, and for development theory, are discussed. </jats:p

Analysis Of Textual Meaning and Melodic Structure Of Popular Batak Toba Songs During The Presentation Of Ulos Hela In Batak Toba Wedding Ceremonies In Medan

    No full text
Ulos Hela is usually given by the bride’s parents to the couple. These three songs are always chosen to be sung before the Ulos Hela is presented to the bride and groom. Before presenting the Ulos Hela, the bride’s parents usually deliver advice and dedicate one of the songs, such as Burju Marsimatua, Gabe Maho Boru, or Boru Nabasa. To analyze the textual meaning in this study, the author uses Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotic theory, focusing on denotative and connotative meanings. In addition, the songs Burju Marsimatua, Gabe Maho Boru, and Boru Nabasa contain advice and prayers with connotative meanings that reflect the social values of the Batak Toba community. The research techniques used are fieldwork and desk work as introduced by Bruno Nettl. The author applies a qualitative method through observation, interviews, and audio-video recording. The findings of this study indicate that the Ulos Hela ceremony is a crucial highlight of the Batak Toba wedding tradition, symbolizing parental love, blessings, and the transfer of responsibility from the bride’s parents to the groom’s family. The songs Burju Marsimatua, Gabe Maho Boru, and Boru Nabasa convey prayers, advice, and moral values that guide the newlyweds in building a harmonious household. The melodic analysis shows that all three songs use the strophic formula, are dominated by the 1P interval, and have a pendulous contour, creating a solemn atmosphere. This tradition serves as a medium for preserving cultural identity and instilling noble values for future generations.82 pagesSkripsi Sarjan
