Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Croatian Library for the Blind then and today
The Croatian Library for the Blind was officially established in 2000 as a public institution, and its founders have an equal share in the Republic of Croatia and the Croatian Association of the Blind. The most important task of the library is to provide access to all its services to people who have difficulty reading. Like any other library, the Croatian Library for the Blind provides certain services to its users, and some of the services are adapting certain texts, such as documents and brochures, so that users can use them. The library fund is very rich. Collaborations are a very important component of the quality operation of the library, therefore the Croatian Library for the Blind cooperates with many libraries, but also institutions that have the same goal. Through the chapters of this paper, one can see the progress that the library has experienced over the years, more precisely from 2014 until today, but also understand the importance of alternative formats such as braille, audio book, tactile graphics and e-books
Gender representation of characters with disabilities in picture books
The picture book represents the first step in a child's literacy, that is, it opens the door to the world of literature for children. It is important to pay attention to the kind of picture books we offer children because it is of great importance that they are of high quality, given that they appear in the most sensitive period of a person's life. Children very often identify with characters who have similarities with them or literature can help them understand or accept people who are different from them, but if more picture books, novels and stories that include characters with disabilities are not introduced, boys and girls alike in the roles of the main characters, children will be denied that opportunity. The aim of this paper is to come to the conclusion through the analysis of whether boys or girls appear more often as the main characters with difficulties in picture books and whether certain difficulties are exclusively related to one gender. This paper will analyze twenty-one picture books whose main characters are faced with various difficulties such as autism spectrum disorders, hyperactive disorder, Down's syndrome, blindness, low vision, stuttering, physical disability, cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, dyslexia, dyscalculia and dysgraphia. A sample of twenty-one picture books published between 2001 and 2021 shows an almost equal number of male main characters and female main characters facing the aforementioned difficulties

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
Radionice u knjižnicama potiču čitalačke vještine djece, razvoj njihovoga pismenog izražavanja, razvoj grafomotorike i samopouzdanja. The word bibliotherapy comes from two Greek words, biblion which means book and therapeia which stands for healing, from this we can conclude that bibliotherapy means the use of specifically selected literature for therapeutic purposes. Bibliotherapy is divided in three main types: institutional, clinical and developmental. Aim of bibliotherapy is the evocation of changes through repressed conflicts. Reading enriches the child’s vocabulary and helps him develop his imagination. The child is born with many potentials, but it is necessary to unlock these potentials so that they do not remain undeveloped because it can cause lack of self-confidence and success in further life. Dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia and ADHD are only some of the few difficulties on which children encounter when it comes to reading and writing. Dyslexia is a studying disorder which mostly begins with difficulties while studying and in reading itself; later, it manifests with poor spelling and problems in using the written language. Dysgraphia is a phenomenon which follows dyslexia. Dyscalculia is a sequence of specific difficulties in studying, understanding mathematics and solving mathematic problems. ADHD (Hyperactivity Disorder) is accompanied by distemper and impulsiveness and it is a developmental disorder of self-control. The workshops in libraries initiate the child’s reading skills, development of their writing, development in graphomotorics and self-confidence. The librarian has an important role in the bibliography process and he must be familiar with all the difficulties on which children encounter, but also with the material which is easy to read in order to make the writing and the language itself easier for children to understand
