«Ovviamente», il Medioevo? Note per una lettura metastorica de «Il nome della rosa» di Umberto Eco
No full textThe essay aims to reflect on the choice of the Middle Ages by Umberto Eco for the setting of his first novel Il nome della rosa (1980). While in the Postille to the novel published by the author in 1983 this choice is described as obvious, it is instead worth focusing on it in order to place it in its historical and cultural context – a wide-ranging medievalist revival in the 1970s – and thus understand its significance as a node in a wider network. Considering specifically what kind of Middle Ages is represented in the text, and relating it to the historical period during which Eco claims to have conceived the book, we see how what seems to interest him is the story of the eternal return of the dynamics of power, the definition of archetypes of power that could constitute a passepartout for the interpretation of reality: historical depth seems here to yield in a certain way to a 'meta-historical' hypothesis aimed at formulating a model of the clash between power and counter-power in the midst of which those who seek to lucidly investigate its mechanisms are bound to succumb.Il saggio si propone di riflettere sulla scelta del Medioevo da parte di Umberto Eco per l’ambientazione de Il nome della rosa (1980). Se nelle Postille al romanzo pubblicate dall’autore nel 1983 questa scelta è raccontata come ovvia, vale invece la pena di concentrarvisi per inserirla nel suo contesto storico e culturale – quello di un ampio revival medievalista degli anni Settanta – e comprenderne dunque il significato in quanto nodo di una rete più ampia. Ragionando poi nello specifico su che genere di Medioevo venga rappresentato nel testo, e mettendolo in relazione con il periodo storico durante il quale Eco afferma di aver concepito il libro, si vede come ciò che sembra interessargli è il racconto dell’eterno ritorno delle dinamiche di potere, la definizione di archetipi del potere che costituiscano dei passepartout per l’interpretazione della realtà: la profondità storica pare cedere in una certa misura a un’ipotesi ‘metastorica’ volta a formulare un modello di scontro tra potere e contropotere nel cui mezzo soccombe chi cerca di indagarne lucidamente i meccanismi

No full textIn the 1986 edition of Wahrheit und Methode Gadamer starts to describe the role of his hermeneutics in terms of «vigilance (Wachheit)», being awake, rather than in those of «task (Aufgabe)». Starting from this point, the author shows that this idea is not a new one in Gadamer's thought: the theme of the Wachheit is taken from the essay Praktischen Wissen, written by Gadamer in 1930 and published in 1985. The re-thinking of the concept of Wachheit influences Gadamer's last works, where phronesis is described like a Wachheit of the practical reason

This research is about the use of Time Token strategy to determine the
effectiveness of time card in upgrading speaking skill at the eighth grade of
SMPN 7 Palopo. A pre-experimental study was used in this research. This
research applied one group's pre-test and post-test design. The population of this
study consisted of 145 students in five classes for the eighth grade of SMPN 7
Palopo. The sample was taken by using a purposive sampling technique, which
consisted of 25 students. While the research instrument used was a speaking test.
The data were analyzed using Paired Sample T-test and calculated by using SPSS
22. The data were analyzed by calculating the mean score and paired sample t-test.
This research showed the mean score on post-Test (58,08) was higher than the
pre-Test (22,84). The value of data analysis, tcount (was -5,878), while the Ttable for
the standard of significance level 0,05 (5%) on df (degree of freedom) value 24
was 2.064, which means the data stated that the value of tcount is higher than the
value of Ttable. On the other hand, alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted, and
null hypothesis (HO) was rejected. It can be concluded that using time token
strategy is effective and can be recommended to upgrade students' speaking skills.
