ECHR Melo Tadeu: A Tax Case Which Should Bring on More Carefully Selected Criminal Procedures
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) judged in the Melo Tadeu case that the refusal of the authorities to undo the seizure of assets after a criminal acquittal, is disproportional, regardless whether the appeal was too late. The Melo Tadeu judgment implies mainly that the presumption of innocence remains in full force after a criminal acquittal. In this article the author discusses the Melo Tadeu judgment of the ECHR
This is a story about lynchings. ARTS IN DIALOGUE Poetry and Painting: Joao Cabral de Melo Neto and Joan MirÃ
Painting and Literature, although they consist of different activities, interact and communicate to each other into a large field, denominated Art. This study aims to approximate, like a dialogue, between Poetry and Painting. We propose a comparative approach between some parts of the Spanish painter Joan MirÃâs (1893-1983) work and some poems of A pedra do sono (1942), by JoÃo Cabral de Melo Neto (1920-1999), a Brazilian poet from Pernambuco. This study will have as a backdrop the Surrealist aesthetic, postulated by Andrà Breton, in 1924, in France. We will have as a fundamental theoretical basis JoÃo Cabral de Melo Netoâs thought, exhibited in a critical essay, in 1949, entitled âJoan MirÃâ. The famous âengineer poetâ had a strong relation with the Literary Theory, and he wrote some critic texts of Art and Literature, in which the author discusses about the artistic composition process, kinds of aesthetic, literary movements, Brazilian and foreign personalities. To enable this analyses, we used the Comparative Literature Theoretical, like: TÃnia Carvalhal, Sandra Nitrini, Julia Kristeva e Mikhail Bakhtin; and the Art critics: Fayga Ostrower, Omar Calabrese, Paul ValÃry, among other, who have allowed a comprehension about artistic movements, kinds of aesthetic and creationâs and compositionâs peculiar techniques. We will begin thinking about Art and artistic making; then, JoÃo Cabral de Melo Netoâs artistic profile will be focused, as his theoretical/critical face, based on his Joan Mirà study. The last step includes an analysis of the JoÃo Cabralâs essay about MirÃâs paintings, concerned to his own work. The dialogue is made possible with regard to the evidence of recurrent themes, as well as the composition process with a lot of approximated points between those artists
Infinito e segredo nas poéticas da combinação de Melo e Castro e de Herberto Helder / Infinite and Secret in the Poetics of Combination of Melo e Castro and Herberto Helder
Abstract: Based on the collaboration between Melo e Castro and Herberto Helder for the second issue of the PO.EX magazine, from 1966, the article proposes a dialogue between the two poets regarding the use of the cybernetic method of combination in their poetics. Initially, as of the post-war context, when the combinatorial method became the key of creation for some poets. In the conclusion, it reaches contemporary times, when algorithmic technology seems to control and drive political-cultural goals. Throughout the article, the author approaches some similarities and differences between the uses of the combination by the poets, enabling us to think some historical contradictions in the connection between poetic discourse and technology. This leads infinite and secret as potentially political elements in the Melo e Castro and Herberto Helder’s poetics of combination. Keywords: infinite, secret, combination, Herberto Helder, Melo e Castro

A gramática filosófica de Bernardo de Lima e Melo Bacelar (1783)
The purpose of this article is to demonstrate the linguistic and pedagogical ideas present in the “Grammatica Philosophica da Língua Portugueza” (1783), by Bernardo de Lima e Melo Bacelar (ca.1736-post.1787), leaving from a critical reading of this Grammar book and an analysis about other researchers who have already studied it. The “Grammatica” is divided into three parts, according to the parts of the grammatical sentence and their functions in the sentence. These parts are subdivided into chapters. The author uses the case nomenclature to describe the terms of the sentences. His intention was to offer to the readers an innovative material, which could present the rules of the Portuguese language by a new methodology. Bacelar believed that a clear, precise and unambiguous communication would only be possible through the knowledge of these rules. As an attentive follower of Port-Royal’s rationalist ideas and of the Enlightenment, he also believed in the existence of an universal grammar. Although he was a great erudite of classical languages and of the Portuguese language, his job was underestimated by the scholars of his time. Unfortunately, he did not achieve his purpose of providing clarity in communication.

Fil: Guiance, Ariel Omar. Amphibians and reptiles of Wildsumaco Wildlife Sanctuary, Napo Province, Ecuador
We conducted a long-term inventory of the herpetofauna of Wildsumaco Wildlife Sanctuary in the eastern part of the Napo Province in Ecuador. This private preserve is about 500 ha in size and is located on the southern slopes of Volcán Sumaco. The preserve contains primary forest, secondary forest, and pasture habitats. Based mostly on nocturnal transect sampling we documented 39 species of amphibians including one species of salamander, two species of caecilians, and 36 species of frogs. Rain frogs (Pristimantis Jiminez de la Espada, 1871) were diverse with 14 species documented. A diverse species assemblage of 45 reptile species was also documented on the preserve. Six amphibian species found were listed by the IUCN Red List. At least three species exhibited substantial geographic range extensions and seven species showed elevational range extensions. We discovered several undescribed species including one salamander, three frogs, one lizard, and one snake
