FINANCING COMMUNITY FACILITIES: A CASE STUDY OF THE PARKS AND RECREATIONAL GENERAL OBLIGATION BOND MEASURE OF SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA
This study of the City of San Jose’s Parks and Recreation General Obligation (GO) Bond Measure seeks to identify the politics-, management-, and planning-related lessons learned by the City as it developed its community facilities using the GO bonds proceeds. The study finds that these lessons include: be conservative in what you promise the residents; be prepared for changes in economic environment by identifying supplementary funding sources should the primary source not yield adequate funds; make sure that the jurisdiction is organizationally capable of handling the increased workload; and prepare detailed project plans prior to the bond issuance.Community Infrastructure and Services; Municipal Bonds; Public Finance
Removable Partial Dentures (PRPs) are a treatment option for the replacement of missing teeth still largely used in clinical practice. However, even when the care needed during their planning and fabrication are respected, there are still failures and complications that compromise the longevity of these prostheses. Few studies showing the prevalence of failure and complications in PPR have been reported in the literature, and there are no records of surveys of this nature at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). Data were collected regarding 14 PRPs in 12 patients, distributed as follows: 6 (42.9%) were Class I, 3 (21.4%) Class II – Modification 1, 1 (7.1%) Class II – Modification 2, 1 (7.1%) Class III - Modification 1, 2 (14.3%) Class III – Modification 2 and 1 (7.1%) Class IV. Failures and The most frequent biological failures and complications were plaque accumulation (92.9%), followed by clinical attachment loss (78.6%), bleeding on probing (71.4%) and loss of mucosal support (71.4%). Most prevalent mechanical failures and complications were loss of retention and staining/adherence of calculus to the prosthesis (64.3% of the prosthesis). The results allow us to conclude that the prevalence of complications in removable partial dentures is moderate, indicating the necessity of repair or competition with frequency. The implementation of educational programs in health and maintenance of dentures is critical to increasing the long-term success of removable partial dentures

Maxillary lateral incisor agenesis and its relationship to overall tooth size
Statement of problem: Agenesis of the maxillary lateral incisor is linked to differences in overall tooth size. Thus, the mesio-distal space required for final esthetic restoration in patients with missing one of both maxillary lateral incisors may be smaller.
Purpose. The purpose of this study is to determine if a tooth size discrepancy exists in orthodontic patients with agenesis of the maxillary lateral incisor(s).
Material and methods. Forty sets of dental casts from white orthodontic patients (19 male and 21 female) mean age 15.9 years were collected. All casts had agenesis of one or both maxillary lateral incisors. The teeth were measured with a digital caliper at their greatest mesio-distal width and then compared to a control group matched for ethnicity, age and sex. S One-way repeated measures ANOVA (α=.05) was used for statistical analysis.
Results. Males in the test group had significantly smaller maxillary posterior teeth when compared to males in the control group, with differences ranging from 0.28-0.78mm. Females showed significantly smaller maxillary anterior teeth, with differences ranging from 0.22-0.42mm. The remaining maxillary lateral incisor was also significantly smaller (1.27mm difference) in the male and female unilateral agenesis test groups indicating higher incidence of ‘peg’ laterals when compared to the control group.
Conclusions. Agenesis of one or both maxillary lateral incisors is associated with a tooth size discrepancy. White males experienced smaller than normal posterior maxillary teeth and females showed smaller anterior maxillary teeth. This article is based on the Master’s thesis (J.W.) presented in 2011 in partial fulfilment of requirements for the degree of Master of Science, Marquette University School of Dentistry, 2011.Peer reviewe
Author Co-Citation Analysis (ACA): a powerful tool for representing implicit knowledge of scholar knowledge workers
In the last decade, knowledge has emerged as one of the most important and valuable organizational assets. Gradually this importance caused to emergence of new discipline entitled ―knowledge management‖. However one of the major challenges of knowledge management is conversion implicit or tacit knowledge to explicit knowledge. Thus Making knowledge visible so that it can be better accessed, discussed, valued or generally managed is a long-standing objective in knowledge management. Accordingly in this paper author co- citation analysis (ACA) will be proposed as an efficient technique of knowledge visualization in academia (Scholar knowledge workers)
