PENGARUH PENGGUNAAN METODE READING WORKSHOP, SQ4R, DAN MOTIVASI BERPRESTASI TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN LITERASI PESERTA DIDIK SEKOLAH DASAR DI SURABAYA

This study investigates the effects of the Reading Workshop and SQ4R methods, along with achievement motivation, on the literacy skills of elementary school students in Surabaya. Using a quantitative quasi-experimental design, 189 students were divided into two groups: one employing the Reading Workshop method (92 participants) and the other using SQ4R (97 participants). Data were collected through literacy tests administered at pretest and posttest stages, with average scores increasing from 65.40 (pretest) to 73.47 (posttest). Achievement motivation was also measured to assess its impact on literacy. Results revealed significant differences in literacy improvement between the methods, with Reading Workshop showing superior effectiveness (F = 66.328, p < 0.001). Additionally, students with high achievement motivation demonstrated better literacy outcomes compared to those with low motivation (F = 196.627, p < 0.001). However, no significant interaction was found between the teaching methods and achievement motivation regarding literacy skills (F = 0.163, p = 0.687). The study concludes that while both methods are beneficial, achievement motivation is a more critical factor in enhancing literacy skills. It is recommended that educators focus on increasing students' motivation alongside implementing these methods and suggests further research into various teaching strategies and their long-term effects on literacy development

This research aims to determine the influence of game based learning methods assisted by crossword puzzles on the ability to pronounce words and mastery of Javanese vocabulary, especially in basic uploaded material. The method sed is quasi experimental. The research population included 87 students at elementary school in Surabaya. The research sample consisted of 56 students consisting of two groups, namely class VA as the control class and class VB as the experimental class, each with 28 students. Data on pronunciation ability and mastery of Javanese vocabulary were obtained through pretest and posttest. The ability to pronounce Javanese vocabulary is obtained from tests in the form of reading material that students must read correctly, while data on mastery of Javanese vocabulary is obtained through tests in the form of essay questions. Data analysis used the t-test for independent samples. Based on the research results, hypothesis testing shows a significance value of 0.00 <0.05, which means H0 is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the game based learning method assisted by crossword puzzles affects the ability to pronounce words and mastery of Javanese vocabulary for class V students Elementary school in  Surabaya

Exploring the Influence of Sociocultural and Parenting Styles on Enhancing Children's English Learning: A Narrative Case Study from Indonesia

This study explores sociocultural factors based on Bourdieu’s theory (1987) and parenting styles based on Baumrind's theory (1991) to support children's EFL learning, emphasizing the perspectives and experiences of parents and families. This narrative case study encompasses six parents with children aged 5 to 11 years and families from diverse regions in Indonesia. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analysis of children's English language practice video documents. They were analyzed through deductive thematic analysis with NVivo software to explore prominent themes. The results reveal that sociocultural factors, predominantly the theme of social capital, supported by the role of habitus and cultural capital, alongside the authoritative parenting style, as reflected through parents' perspectives and experiences, with family support in have affected children's EFL learning. Moreover, sociocultural factors and parenting styles can also proficiently convey EFL learning values and foster a positive environment for English learning. It can be implied that the research has beneficial for the parents’ roles in creating a positive learning environment through balanced engagement of sociocultural factors and the utilization of appropriate parenting styles. Nonetheless, if the sociocultural factors are less than optimal, this is not a hitch because the appropriate parenting style can support them

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
