The definitive version was published in Journal of Parkinson's Disease 6 (2016): 703-707, doi:10.3233/JPD-160881.Recent research suggests that in Parkinson’s disease the long, thin and unmyelinated axons of dopaminergic neurons degenerate early in the disease process. We organized a workshop entitled ‘Axonal Pathology in Parkinson’s disease’, on March 23rd, 2016, in Cleveland, Ohio with the goals of summarizing the state-of-the-art and defining key gaps in knowledge. A group of eight research leaders discussed new developments in clinical pathology, functional imaging, animal models, and mechanisms of degeneration including neuroinflammation, autophagy and axonal transport deficits. While the workshop focused on PD, comparisons were made to other neurological conditions where axonal degeneration is well recognized

A Pedagogic Trinity – Exploring the Art, Craft and Science of Teaching

This article aims to convince the reader that teachers in the current Higher Education (HE) climate should be conducting educational research and offers a number of points exploring the potential benefits of regular teacher engagement with current pedagogic literature to inform practice. This article also outlines three streams of teaching practice and asks the reader to identify themselves in any or all of these streams, whilst making the point that all teachers should be engaging in pedagogical research in some form. This paper might be of interest to readers of JPD because it should prompt them to share and submit their good practice. Given that the central premise of this paper is to explore current trends around how and even why HE practitioners engage with pedagogic research, then we should be open to having this question convincingly answered, at least in part. There are a number of reasons why one should: the central argument being…It’s our job!...and, even if this is not strictly speaking the case, this author would propose that as an academic in a dynamic HE environment, it is too good an opportunity to miss for both your own professional development and the betterment of pedagogic practice within your discipline, department, school or unit

abstract: The analysis plan and the format of this report are derived from numerous meetings held over more than an eighteen month span with the AARIN project advisory board, Maricopa County leadership, and representatives from JPD. Following the guidance of the advisory board, the dissemination strategy for the AARIN project shifted from a single, broadly scoped annual summary report supplemented by smaller topic-specific reports into shorter, individual reports tailored to the specific needs and wants of six key county criminal justice agencies. Meetings with JPD representatives regarding their individualized report indicated they would be most interested in a broad analysis akin to the traditional AARIN annual reports. A key modification to this broad traditional analysis strategy, this report compares juvenile detainees in three categories of probation history – never served probation (or not in the past 12 months), served probation in a county other than Maricopa, and served probation in Maricopa County, each defined for either lifetime or the past 12 months, ultimately yielding six analysis categories. Each of the three probation categories are mutually exclusive within a given time period (i.e. lifetime and past 12 months). Given the JPD’s need for the broadly scoped analysis as opposed to a topically-focused and interpretive report, the report here primarily provides analyses across most of the core instrument elements, presented in tabular form, with a list of key findings and highlights

In the previous stage, the author has developed the SIBELPOLEN model (positive learning environment-based learning cycle), the author has conducted several trials related to the analysis of the results of student responses to the development of this model, which in the next stage becomes the focus and purpose of this paper. The question in this research is how to analyze MI students' responses to the Sibelpolen model. This writing uses a qualitative approach, with qualitative descriptive analysis. The data processing and data analysis is done through observation sheet instruments, questionnaire sheets and interview results. In analyzing the qualitative data in this research, the authors process the data by utilizing the N-Vivo 12 Plus software, both the results of interviews, responses, learning activities, and learning outcomes of children's science literacy at the elementary school level. Sources of data were taken from students from 2 Madrasah, namely from MI PGM and MI An-Nur located in the city of Cirebon with a total of 57 children. The findings from the data showed that 88.69% of students gave a positive response regarding the Sibelpolen model in science learning. The indicator can be seen from the results of students' answers which are more systematic and varied in terms of understanding critical thinking abilities, these findings also show that students can easily strengthen their memories and provide explanations about the material that has been delivered. The implication of applying this sibelpolen model is that it can foster positive emotions in children with a positive learning approach

    Noncommutative Lagrange Mechanics

It is proposed how to impose a general type of ''noncommutativity'' within classical mechanics from first principles. Formulation is performed in completely alternative way, i.e. without any resort to fuzzy and/or star product philosophy, which are extensively applied within noncommutative quantum theories. Newton-Lagrange noncommutative equations of motion are formulated and their properties are analyzed from the pure geometrical point of view. It is argued that the dynamical quintessence of the system consists in its kinetic energy (Riemannian metric) specifying Riemann-Levi-Civita connection and thus the inertia geodesics of the free motion. Throughout the paper, ''noncommutativity'' is considered as an internal geometric structure of the configuration space, which can not be ''observed'' per se. Manifestation of the noncommutative phenomena is mediated by the interaction of the system with noncommutative background under the consideration. The simplest model of the interaction (minimal coupling) is proposed and it is shown that guiding affine connection is modified by the quadratic analog of the Lorentz electromagnetic force (contortion term). This paper is a contribution to the Proceedings of the 3-rd Microconference “Analytic and Algebraic Methods III”. This research was supported in part by MSMT ˇ CR grant LC06002, ESF projects: JPD 3 2005/NP1-013 and JPD 3BA 2005/1-034 and VEGA Grant 1/3042/06. Social Sciences Education is a study of the social sciences and humanities that aims to improve citizens' abilities. The social studies disciplines in Indonesia are aimed at helping students gain information, awareness, and analytical skills regarding a society's social conditions as they prepare to enter a dynamic society. The foundation of social studies is reality and social phenomena, which are achieved through an interdisciplinary approach from many social science areas. Over time, social studies education in elementary schools has undergone various developments and curriculum changes. In Indonesia, social science education was introduced in 1975 and used the 1975–2006 curriculum. With the materials separately, the development and renewal of the curriculum took place so as to create the 2013 curriculum, which packs social studies education materials in an integrated manner. These changes and developments aim to improve the quality of Indonesian education and create students who can think critically in order to meet the challenges of the times so that they can compete globally. The author collects data through a literature review in order to write this scientific essay. It is intended that by writing this article, the author will be able to describe the evolution of social studies education in Indonesia at the primary school level, as well as the advantages of the many curricula utilized

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the Regional Education Grant in reducing dropout rates in the City of Yogyakarta. The author explored the effectiveness of the Regional Education Grant on its role in reducing dropout rates, so the author explores Regional Education Grant rights in their role in reducing dropout rates for the last 5 years (2015-2019). This research adopted a descriptive quantitative research, this research described the situation that occurred, without testing the hypothesis with secondary data analysis methods which were complemented by the interview method. The population in this research were dropout rates in the city of Yogyakarta during the last 5 years. The data analyses used the regression coefficient analysis and the determination coefficient analysis. The result of this research is that the education security program can not be said to be effective, especially in reducing the dropout rates. The tendency causes were the problems of achievement program that were not maximized yet, especially due to the external factors such as the achievement of Regional Education Grant goals unsupport by public. For example, there was a missunderstanding information, which lead to the highest reason for dropping out rates in the City of Yogyakarta. It was actually triggered by a lack of motivation to learn so that the students were reluctant to go to school, with a percentage of 29.70%

The data from North Carolina reveal four phases of persistent sea-level change after correction for glacial isostatic adjustment. Sea level was stable from at least BC 100 until AD 950. It then increased for 400 years at a rate of 0.6 mm/yr, followed by a further period of stable, or slightly falling, sea level that persisted until the late 19th century. Since then, sea level has risen at an average rate of 2.1 mm/yr, representing the steepest, century-scale increase of the past two millennia. This rate was initiated between AD 1865 and 1892. Using an extended semi-empirical modeling approach, we show that these sea-level changes are consistent with global temperature for at least the past millennium.Research was supported by NSF grants (EAR-0951686) to BPH and JPD.
