A Note on the Form and Use of the Language of Nias
No full textLike other languages, the language of Nias is a system of communication, a tool for thought, a medium for self-expression, a social institution and ethnic pride among its native speakers. In spite of its important functions, the language Nias reveals some phenomena calling for attention. One of the phenomena has to do with the increase of education and language contact involving the speakers of the Nias language. Another phenomenon has to do with the attitudes of the speakers of the Nias language toward their native language and culture in general. Still another has to do with some government policies, whose significant positive contribution to the Nias language is still debatable. This short article is organized into four parts. The first part the introduction where the background of the writing the article is presented. The second part contains a short description of the form of the language of Nias. The third part is about the use of the language. The last part is the recommendation on preservation and revitalization of the Nias language

No full textKelime anlamı olarak bakma, bakış, göz atma anlamlarına gelen nazar; halk arasında bakışlarının uğursuzluk ve zarar getirdiğine inanılan kişilerin, canlı ve cansız varlıklar üzerinde yarattığı kötü etki olarak tanımlanır. Nazar değen kişilerin veya nazara uğrayan çeşitli nesnelerin olumsuz bir durumla karşılaşacağına, nazarın bıraktığı etkinin kötü hadiseler getireceğine inanılır. Yörük kültürünün hâkim olduğu Alanya’da da özellikle dağ köylerinde ve yaylalarda nazara dair inanışlar ve uygulamalar canlı bir biçimde yaşamaktadır. Alanya Yörükleri nazar değmesini “isabete uğramak” olarak isimlendirmektedir. Bu çalışmada Alanya halkının nazara karşı inanışları, nazardan korunma yolları ve nazar olduğunda yapılan uygulamalar anlatılacaktır. Nazar ocakları hakkında bilgi verilecek; kurşun dökme, tuz çevirme, mum öğme gibi nazardan arınma uygulamalarından söz edilecektir. Ayrıca Alanya’da nazar inanışını etkileyen faktörler ortaya konulacaktır. Çalışmada saha çalışması yöntemi uygulanmış ve görüşme tekniğiyle kaynak kişilerden konuyla ilgili bilgiler alınmıştır. Katılımlı ve katılımsız gözlem yapılarak köylerdeki ve yaylalardaki nazarla ilgili uygulamaların fotoğrafları çekilmiş ve bunlara çalışma içinde yer verilmişti
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
