The study was conducted to investigate the socio-economic importance of non-timber forest products in Jello-Muktar protected forest located between 8055’N-9005’N latitude and 40050’E-40051’E longitude in south-eastern Ethiopia. Stratified random sampling technique was used to collect data by using both formal and informal survey. Informal survey was conducted using semi-structured questionnaire and structured questionnaire was used for formal survey. From a total of 900 households living in the vicinity of the forest, 10% of the households were randomly selected for interview and discussions. Households were stratified according to wealth categories; rich, medium and poor based on their farmland size hold and off-farm activities. Survey of four local markets was also conducted to assess collection of data about the number of non-timber forest products sellers involved in each selected market place, the type of products supplied to these markets and to provide information on the importance of non-timber forest products to the household economy as a means of supplementing gaps in the household survey. The result indicated that all households interviewed make use of non-timber forest products to a greater or lesser extent. Nine categories of non-timber forest products were identified which include traditional medicine, household utensil, honey, fuelwood, farm implement, animal fodder, edible wild food, smoking/flavouring products, and spices. Sale of non-timber forest products was found to contribute 36 %, 9% and 4% of their average annual income for the poor, medium and rich households, respectively. The poor households generate more income from the sale of non-timber forest products than the medium and rich households. NTFPs business also provides employment opportunity for the local people. On average 340 individuals per market day are engaged in NTFPs sale in four local markets found around the forest. The use of non-timber forest products was found to be significantly influenced by farmland size hold, off-farm activities and age of the head of the household (p < 0.01 and P<0.05). This investigation showed that non-timber forest products harvested from the forest contribute to the livelihood of households residing in the vicinity of the forest. Therefore, the management plan of Jello-Muktar forest should include the contribution and sustainable utilization of non-timber forest products. There is limited quantitative information with regard to the vegetation structure in South-eastern Ethiopia. This study was therefore carried out to determine the density, DBH, Basal area and height distributions of woody plant species at Jello-Muktar dry afromontane forest. Systematic sampling design was used to collect vegetation data in total of 90 circular sample plots of each 30cm radius. In each plot all woody plants which are ≥2 cm diameter at breast height and height > 1m were identified, measured and recorded. Analysis of Size class distribution was performed for height (100 cm and above) and diameter classes (2 cm and above) and BA of each woody plant species with DBH ≥ 2 cm was computed The study revealed that more than 93% of the individuals had the DBH class distribution of more than 40.01 cm DBH. The DBH class distribution showed an inverted J-shape curve with the presence of more individuals in the lower DBH classes which is an indication of the active regeneration. The basal area in this study ranged from 10.9 m 2/ha for DBH class 1 to 59.02 m 2/ha for DBH class 11. The total basal area was found to be 245.65m2 and there was a J-shape curve relationship between DBH class and basal area class distribution. About 89 % of trees and shrubs had heights of more than 5m tall but only 3.45% the total individuals recorded were more than 30m. The population structure of the entire forest showed higher stem densities in the Lower diameter classes and progressively declining stem densities with increasing Diameter classes. Study of woody plant species population structure is an invaluable strategy for planning management actions and also helps in identifying the status of the forest stand with regard to its rate of disturbance. Hence it is better to manage those parts of forest stands with less number of individuals through enrichment planting of indigenous tree species. Effective and efficient financial management is an important element in supporting the continuity and quality of education, especially in Islamic boarding school-based schools such as MTs Muktar Syafaat . This research aims to analyze the priority-based financing planning approach applied at MTs Muktar Syafaat in managing two main sources of funding: sharia payments and school operational assistance (BOS). This research uses descriptive qualitative methods with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, observation and document study. The research focus includes identifying primary and secondary needs as well as funding allocation mechanisms based on priorities. The research results Operational funding at MTs Muktar Syafaat relies on two main sources: sharia payments and School Operational Assistance (BOS). Sharia payments, in the form of mandatory student contributions, are the main foundation of madrasah financing, used for teacher salaries, teaching materials, and facility maintenance. These funds are also managed by foundations to support other units, such as Islamic boarding schools and mosques. However, this system is vulnerable to fluctuations in revenue, especially during economic instability, such as crises or pandemics. Dependence on the economic capacity of the guardians of students poses a challenge, although the foundation provides payment flexibility.

This study examine the relationship between the key factors affecting credit risk toward bank credit risk and identify the effect of the internal factor of the bank towards the banks credit risk. The dependent variable of this study is banks credit risk and independent variables are size of the bank (LNTA), leverage (LEV), management efficiency (MGT), regulatory capital (REGCAP), loan loss provision (LNLLP) and loan to deposit ratio (LD). The sample of the study consists of Malaysian top 5 largest banks by total asset. The period covered from 2000 until 2014. This study used quantitative secondary data which is panel data and multiple regression models represented by the ordinary least squares (OLS) as the technique to look the relationship and the effect of the independent variables toward dependent variable. The results from the study reveal that size of the bank, management efficiency and regulatory capital is negatively related to banks credit risk. While leverage, loan loss provision and loan to deposit is positively related to banks credit risk. All the independent variables are significantly affect the banks credit risk where banks credit risk is affected by the size of the bank, leverage, management efficiency, regulatory capital, loan loss provision and loan to deposits

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Reduction in plant species diversity, influences the potential of carbon stocks in a given land use. The forest are disappearing at an alarming rate in the tropics, so the role of agroforestry (AF) as a conservation tool and carbon sequestration needs to be further explored by comparing with forests. Thus, the aims of this study was to evaluate and compare woody species diversity, Composition, Structure and above ground biomass (AGB) carbon stock of Jello Muktar Dry Afromontane forest (JMF) and its adjacent AF. Dataset from forest inventory (n = 30), undertaken in JMF was used. For AF forty sample plots with 20 m × 20 m were sampled with stratified systematic sampling techniques. Woody species diversity analysis were carried out using Shannon Weiner Diversity index (H'), Simpson diversity (D) and Evenness index (J) whereas, similarity was carried out using Sørensen coefficient of similarity (Ss) index respectively. General and species or site specific allometric equations were used to calculate the AGB. A total of 74 woody species belonging to 47 families were recorded across the two land uses. The species similarity index between the two studied land uses was low (17.65%). The independent samples test indicated higher values of H' (3.20), D (0.95), and J (0.95) indices in JMF compared to the adjacent AF values of H' (2.09), D (0.83), and J (0.80). However, no statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) was observed for the H' index between JMF and AF. AGB carbon stock was significantly (p<0.05) higher in JMF than and its adjacent AF. There was a positive relationship between diversity and carbon stock in the two studied land uses. The study revealed that preserving forests for both biodiversity and climate change mitigation is vital along with the complementary role AF to buffer the forest

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
