"She was, Hannah Arendt wrote, "my closest friend, though she has been dead for some hundred years." Born in Berlin in 1771 as the daughter of a Jewish merchant, Rahel Varnhagen would come to host one of the most prominent salons of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Arendt discovered her writings some time in the mid-1920s and soon began to reimagine Rahel's inner life and write her biography. Long unavailable and never before published as Arendt intended, Rahel Varnhagen: The Life of a Jewess returns to print in an extraordinary new edition." "For this first complete and critical edition of the book in any language, Liliane Weissberg reconstructs the notes Arendt planned for Rahel Varnhagen but never fully executed. She reveals the full extent to which Arendt wove the biography largely from the words of Rahel and her contemporaries. In her extended introduction, Weissberg reflects on Rahel's writings, on Arendt's reading of Rahel's work and life, and on the importance of this text in the development of Arendt's political theory. But the book was important to its author in other ways as well, Weissberg reveals, as she uncovers the hidden story of how Arendt manipulated documents relating to Rahel Varnhagen to claim for herself a university position and reparation payments from the postwar German state."--Jacket."Published in cooperation with the Leo Baeck Institute"--Title page verso.Includes bibliographical references (pages 369-380) and index."She was, Hannah Arendt wrote, "my closest friend, though she has been dead for some hundred years." Między spotkaniem a mijaniem. Rahel Varnhagen, Hannah Arendt, Judith Butler

    No full text
The article is an attempt at capturing the relationship between the lives and creative attitudes of Rahel Varnhagen, Hannah Arendt and Judith Butler. Starting with Varnhagen’s biography written by Arendt, the essay’s author wonders about the philosopher’s writing strategy. Instead of a classic reconstruction of life, the biographer offers a collage of excerpts from Rahel’s letters with extensive commentary. This form encourages one to read Rahel Varnhagen as a narration about the author and her own struggle with Jewish and female identity. The second relationship analysed in the essay is the impact of Hannah Arendt’s texts on Judith Butler’s writings. Despite the criticism of the philosopher’s writings, Arendt remains an unquestionable inspiration to Butler. The article also emphasises the differencebetween the theoreticians: Arendt uses the strategy of mimicry (writing about identity in the form of a German Jew’s biography), while Butler writes a politically-engaged text, exposing herself and her identity. The article is an attempt at capturing the relationship between the lives and creative attitudes of Rahel Varnhagen, Hannah Arendt and Judith Butler. Töö sisaldab toormatrjali ostu ja valmistoodangu müügi võrdlusi 2009-2011.a. Töös antakse ülevaade metsamaterjali kvaliteedi nõuetest ja puitmastide standarditest. Lähtutud on siin OÜ Rahel-Puit tegevdirektori selgitustest ja kogutud andmetest ning Eesti Energi AS Jaotusvõrgu allikatest. Käesolevas bakalureusetöös selgus ettevõttes OÜ Rahel-Puit immutstehnoloogia kasutusele võtmise maksumus ja tasuvusaeg. Reaalse tootmismahu juures, 2800 m3 puitposte aastas, kujuneks lühimaks tasuvusajaks 5,7 aastat, kui kasutatakse veepõhise Tanalith-E immutustehnoloogiat. The author of this Bachelor’s thesis studies the production of wooden poles, the possibilities of expanding the technology by the example of a wood processing company and gives an overview of companies engaged in wood impregnation in Estonia. In addition, the objective of the thesis was to study the kind of impregnation substances and devices used in producing wooden poles and to determine the cost of a wood impregnation plant. The purpose was also to determine whether it would be justified to purchase impregnation technology into OÜ Rahel-Puit and what the future development possibilities would be. The thesis consists of several parts. In the first part, an overview is provided of OÜ Rahel-Puit, its history, organisation and the company’s field of activity. The thesis contains the comparisons of the purchase of raw materials and the sale of finished products in 2009-2011. An overview is given of the quality requirements of timber and the standards of wooden poles. This is based on the explanations of the Executive Director of OÜ Rahel-Puit and the information collected, as well as the sources of Eesti Energia AS Jaotusvõrk In the Bachelor’s thesis, the author determined the cost and payback period of adopting impregnation technology in the company of OÜ Rahel-Puit. At real production volume (2800 m³ of wooden poles a year), the shortest payback period would be 5.7 years, if the water-based Tanalith-E impregnation technology is used

Die Rezeption des Cherubinischen Wandersmannes von Angelus Silesius n der deutschen Romantik: Rahel und Karl August Varnhagen von Ense

The reception of Cherubinischer Wandersmann (The Cherubinic pilgrim) of Angelus Silesius in the German Romanticism: Rahel and Karl August Varnhagen von Ense The article discusses the reception of The Cherubinic Pilgrim in the German Romantic movement, in particular that of Rahel and Karl August Varnhagen. The signs of that reception can be found in their published correspondence, diary, and commentary notes. The focus lies on one of the most popular sa lonnières in Germany, Rahel Varnhagen, also known as Rahel Levin or Rahel Robert. The knowledge about the work of Silesius is probably the fruit of the reception of Friedrich Schlegel, who spreads the Baroque poetry among his acquaintances. However, Rahel’s answer to the mystic work is different from the one of Schlegel. While he openly publishes his thoughts on that matter and refers to the catholic topics, she seems to read and reflect on the poetry until her death in 1833. She leaves her comments under the selected epigrams of Silesius, later published by her husband, which exhibit a personal and fragmentary character of the reception, revealing a free treatment of the texts, fondness of the poetic skill of the author, intertextual connections to other works of literature, sometimes distant or polemical thoughts on theological and philosophical topics, which were relevant for the Romantic movement

Ableism, the dis/ability binary and beyond: Stage 1 (OA edition)

    No full text
Full edition for public use. This dataset is the basis for the first research stage of the qualitative study "Ableism, the dis/ability binary and beyond". The aim of the project is to create a feminist intersectional approach to ableism. For this purpose, a close collaboration with independent researchers who adress ableism in their advocacy, activism and artvisim is implemented throughout all stages of the research project. This dataset contains a) data collected through a systematic search in three academic databases that produced an overview of sources (n=1459) and b) additional data that was purposefully selected by the collaborators (n=116). Data are presented in two separate EXCEL documents, including information about author(s), year of publication, title, type of document or source, language and abstract or a note where there was no abstract available, as well as information about who of the collaborators chose which sources. Through a multiple-step process, explained by the flow-chart, the systematically collected data corpus was narrowed down to sources that focus on (especially gendered) ableism from an intersectional perspective. Collaborators chose 3 sources each from the purposefully collected data corpus that they determined as most relevant for understanding ableism from an intersectional perspective

The article aims to critically discuss tha main thesis of the book Capitalism. A Conversation in Critical Theory written by Nancy Fraser and Rahel Jaeggi. The author shows how, in contrast with the increasing current literature on crisis, Fraser and Jaeggi elaborate a critical theory of society able to read jointly the different crisis of our time. They come to this result trough an expandend conception of capitalism as an institutionalised social order, constituted by a set of structural divisions and institutional separations, that are necessarily crisis-prone. Recostructing this account, the author analyzes its own advantages and weakness
