    No full text
Purpose of this work is a complete recensio of the textual tradition of Motti e Facezie del Piovano Arlotto, a critical and historical analysis and a critical edition of the first printed edition of the text. In the end I made a linguistic and morphologic analysis on the text of the said edition, to look at its value for a future critical edition through targeted examples with the other witnesses of the text

A novel palladium-catalyzed synthesis of phenanthrenes from o-substituted aryl iodides and diphenyl- or alkylphenylacetylenes

    No full text
Figure presented 1,5-Selectively disubstituted 9,10-diphenyl-or alkylphenylphenanthrenes are obtained by reaction of ortho-substituted aryl iodides and diphenyl-or alkylphenylacetylenes in the presence of palladium and norbornene as catalysts. The reaction outcome is controlled by the steric effect exerted by the ortho substituent in the aryl iodide

Synthesis of fluorenyl alcohols: Via cooperative palladium/norbornene catalysis

    No full text
Herein, we report a novel catalytic synthesis of substituted 9H-fluoren-9-ols starting from aryl iodides and secondary ortho-bromobenzyl alcohols in the presence of palladium/norbornene as a catalytic system. The present protocol exhibits high functional group tolerance, mild reaction conditions and moderate to good yields. This transformation is based on two sequential pathways: (i) Pd(ii)-mediated oxidation of the secondary alcohol to the corresponding ketone and (ii) Pd(0)/norbornene-catalyzed reaction of the in situ generated ortho-bromoacetophenone with the aryl iodide

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    No full text

The essay examines a little known but not uninteresting aspect of the figure and work of Jacopo Sannazaro, that is his relationship with the literature of images and especially his personal commitment in creating emblems, ‘motti’ and wits, also for his own use. In addition, the fortune and the fame of the whole corpus (in Vernacular and in Latin) are investigated in the treatises of emblems, a literary genre destined to survive well beyond the end of the Renaissance

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
