    IMPROVING STUDENTS’ DIRECT AND INDIRECT SPEECH MASTERY IN NEWS ITEM TEXT THROUGH USING INPUT ENHANCEMENT TECHNIQUE

    The goal of this research is to find out whether input enhancement technique is effective in improving students’ direct and indirect speech mastery in news item text. This research is quantitative experimental research with pretest and posttest control group design. The data of this research is the students’ direct and indirect speech mastery in new item text. The data collection technique is by administering tests, using pretest-posttest design. The data analysis technique uses t-test formula. The result indicates that there was no difference between control and experimental group in initial abiity before the input-enchancemen-technique was treated. Whereas by using input enhancement technique there was significant difference between students taught direct and indirect speech mastery using input enhancement technique and those taught direct and indirect speech mastery in news item text without using input enhancement technique. Thus, it could be concluded that the use of input enhancement technique was effective in improving students’ direct and indirect speech mastery in news item text. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan teknik peningkatan input efektif dapat meningkatkan penguasaan tuturan siswa secara langsung dan tidak langsung pada teks item berita. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental kuantitatif dengan desain control group pretest and posttest. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah penguasaan tuturan langsung dan tidak langsung siswa pada teks item berita. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan pemberian tes, pretest dan posttest. Teknik analisis data menggunakan rumus uji-t. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada perbedaan antara kelompok kontrol dan kelompok eksperimen dalam hal kemampuan awal sebelum dilakukan perlakuan teknik input-enhancemen. Sedangkan dengan menggunakan teknik peningkatan input terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara hasil belajar siswa dalam hal penguasaan tuturan langsung dan tidak langsung menggunakan teknik peningkatan input dengan hasil belajar siswa dalam hal penguasaan tuturan langsung dan tidak langsung dalam teks item berita tanpa menggunakan teknik peningkatan input. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan teknik peningkatan input efektif dalam meningkatkan penguasaan tuturan siswa secara langsung dan tidak langsung pada teks item berita

    Digital Storytelling: An Attractive Media to Teach Narrative Text in Speaking Class

    In 21st century, a huge change happens in which students prefer to learn by using digital technology. Some interesting digital technology devices are expected to apply by the teachers in the process of teaching and learning. One of the technologies that can be used in teaching activities is digital storytelling. The teachers can combine both personal narratives and the use of technology in their English classes. Thus, this study was conducted to describe the implementation of digital storytelling, the students’ responses to the use of digital, and the students’ digital storytelling works after implementing the media in the teaching and learning process. The design of this research was a descriptive qualitative. The researcher used Field notes, students’ digital storytelling, and interview as instruments of collecting data. The researcher used data condensation, data display, and drawing conclusion to analyze the data. From Some findings of this study, the media can be considered as very attractive. They are eager to speak English during the process of video production. The media has significant role to decrease the students’ anxiety in speaking. It has empowered them to make the digital storytelling video either inside or outside the classroom. At last, the students’ ability is varied. The speaking criteria from O’Malley and Pierce’s scoring rubric is not reached by all students

    The village fund provides a very important position for the village to carry out development and community empowerment programs. These include programs for the welfare of the community. Village funds have an important role in improving the economy of rural communities, with effective and efficient use and allocation. This study uses field research with descriptive research methods, the methods used in this study are: observation, structured interviews, and documentation. After the researchers have collected data, the next step is to do the data analysis. The analysis conducted by researchers uses two ways, namely processing the initial data and classifying it and then the next stage of the data will be analyzed. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that the management of village funds in the village of Kemiri has been running in accordance with existing technical guidelines, so that the development in the village of Kemiri from the existence of village funds has brought considerable changes starting from improving infrastructure facilities, educational advice, health facilities etc. but in the field of empowerment in the village of Kemiri is still not optimal this is due to the lack of community participation in the management of village funds. In the field of development and empowerment, the community is only involved in planning and implementation, but in terms of accountability and evaluation of the community village fund program, it has not been directly involved

    The Madrasah Principal's Strategy in Innovation of Learning Program to Build Students' Competence

    One of the efforts to respond to the challenges of the era, the principal of madrasah must be able to carry out its function as an innovator. In carrying out the role as an innovator, the madrasah principal acts as someone who makes educational innovations (renewals) considered monotonous and conventional. Therefore, by conducting innovation, the quality of educational atmosphere will be created which is able to adapt to the times. The study aims to describe and analyze the strategy of the principal of madrasah in the innovation of learning programs at MI Nurul Ulum Prambon and the innovation of learning programs in building students’ competence at MI Nurul Ulum Prambon. It used descriptive qualitative research, collecting data by observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study are: 1) The innovation of the learning program carried out at MI Nurul Ulum Prambon Sidoarjo consists of general programs and special programs 2) Innovation of learning programs to build students’ competence at MI Nurul Ulum Prambon is realized in students’ activities in schools through general programs and specifically carried out in the form of intracurricular activities, co-curricular activities, and extra-curricular activities

    Teaching Vocabulary Using Modified Snakes and Ladders Game

    Many teachers fail to create a creative learning activity based on the children’s characteristics. In fact, many of today’s elementary schools are equipped with modern technology facilities that can encourage the children’s motivation in vocabulary learning. Unfortunately, the facilities are still used monotonously in learning activity.  This invariable learning activity may cause boredom for young learners. One of the ways to solve the problem is by developing a suitable teaching aid to increase vocabulary learning quality for young learners; it is the electronic Snakes and Ladders game. Therefore, this study aims to develop the conventional format of Snakes and Ladders game into electronic format for the teaching of English vocabulary to the second graders and to investigate the students’ responses toward the game developed. The results in revision I and revision II shows that there are some revisions made dealing with the features and content during the development of the game. While the content is revised by adding more questions amount and variation. Overall the material used and the features exposed in electronic Snakes and Ladders game are appropriate with the second graders characteristics and learning objective. Furthermore, the students show positive response toward the electronic Snakes and Ladders game. &nbsp

    Implementing Project-Based Learning (PBL) Learning Course in ESP Classroom

    Some studies have been conducted concerning the use of project based learning (PBL) in language teaching and learning. Besides, those studies have been fruitful for explaining the benefits of PBL, it is also in compliance with the 21st century era where the digital technology influences the young generation to be more creative. That is why the use of PBL in Indonesia today is urgently need to facilitate students to develop their creativity. However, to implement PBL in teaching and learning process cannot be applied freely since every single subject has distinct characteristic. The methodology used in the class is one the crucial issues to determine the successfulness of implementing PBL in the classroom. These can be happened in English for specific purposes (ESP) speaking class which the characteristic of the learning process is technical English skill. Hence, this paper will present how to implement PBL appropriately accordance with the need of ESP speaking class in which the method develops students to have useful research and study skill, such as the use of reference resources and modern technology which are beneficial for learning.     Nowdays, culture takes a significant role in language teaching and learning. It happens when the universal communication has become the reality that cannot be ignored. The border of countries, in terms of communication, is not relevant anymore. Surely, there will be cross cultural phenomenon when people from different background communicate each other. Hence, need of the learners is not only about their linguistic knowledge, but also the use of language involving cross cultural understanding in real life circumstances. In line with this situation, Indonesia’s 2013 curriculum emphasizes cultural understanding in language teaching and learning. It is expected that the learners have no difficulties in communication which may consist of cultural aspects. Understanding the cultural aspects in communication make them achieve meaningful communication in which the knowledge and the use of language including culture are not separated.     Sharia capital market is a capital market that is related to its activities, regarding issuers, types of securities traded and their trading mechanism conducted based on sharia principles. UINSA Sharia Investment Gallery and UINSA Sharia Trash Bank collaborating to spark AS-SALAM investment products. The AS-SALAM product is a form of investment product for saving capital junk stocks. This research aims to study the innovative strategies adopted by GIS in increasing millennial investors’ interests through the AS-SALAM program. The method used in this research is descriptive method through qualitative research. The results of this study indicate how saving capital stock can increase the interests of millennial investors to start learning to invest. This is because the price of shares is low compared to shares on the outside and only with garbage.Pasar modal syariah merupakan pasar modal yang seluruh mekanisme kegiatannya terutama mengenai emiten, jenis efek yang diperdagangkan dan mekanisme perdagangannya dilakukan berdasarkan dengan prinsip-prinsip syariah.     Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
