August 16, 2003 at the Nanton Lancaster Air Museum in Nanton, Alberta, a noon luncheon was held.
This was followed by a program at 2 p.m. and a fly past of various aircraft at 4 p.m. All this was a tribute to the famed Dambusters.
The Dambusters were R.A.F. Squadron 617. The members of this Squadron were hand picked by the Squadron Leader Guy Gibson. The raid on the dams in the Ruhr Valley, Germany, took place in 1943. Nineteen specially modified Lancaster bombers with their specialized bouncing bombs, created by Barnes Wallace, flying at a low level, breached the dams. Of the 133 crew - 29 were Canadian, 14 of those did not return.
Of great interest to Milo area residents, is that Torger Tearum, was navigator on the Rhur Valley Dams bombing raid. Dan Fox, President of the Lancaster Society was the M.C. for the afternoon program. There were greetings from several people including Ken Vooys - Mayor of Milo, who told of Torger Tearum's early life in the Milo District. There were tributes to P/O John Fraser who took part in the raid and to P/O Torger Tearum, by Dave Birrell, a museum director.
The Tearum family and Fred Sutherland the front gunner on the aircraft that breached the Eder Dam unveiled a painting. This picture was done by aviation artist John Rutherford, depicting Torger's actions during the raid. The painting will hang in the Dambuster's exhibit in the museum.
Several members of the Tearum family and descendants of other Dambuster members attended the program.
It is interesting to note that Torger Tearum survived the Dambuster's raid, but was later killed in 1943 on another Squadron 617 raid. Torger's youngest brother, Lome, was an air gunner who also lost his life in a bombing raid towards the end of the war.
Among local people attending the Dambuster's tribute were: Ken and Carol Vooys, Harold and Janetts Northcott, Jim and Margaret Umscheid, Ian Thompson, Jamie Robertson, Larry and Jean Umscheid,
James Will and Helen Thompson. Also attending were former Milo residents; Murray and Gail Phillips and Jim, High River. Joe Thomson, Calgary. Ellen Thompson, Calgary and Juanita McNair, Beiseker.
The Nanton Lancaster Society Air Museum is the only facility in Canada whose primary goal is to honor those who served with Bomber Command during the second world war. The museum is a very interesting place to visit. It has many displays and vintage aircraft including the Lancaster bomber. This Lancaster does not fly but the one in Hamilton, Ontario does. The museum members were talking about starting the engines up on the day following the 60th anniversary commemoration. The engines in this plane are Rolls-Royce.
Pay the Nanton Lancaster Museum a visit. I know that you will enjoy it and learn about a very interesting important part of our heritage. Thanks to Margaret Umscheid for writing this article.>>

(Must reserve one week in advance,)August 2 dawned to much warmer temperatures than last year. Because of the breeze, rafters were towed to the dam to start the race. 4 rafts competed in the race which started about 2:00 and the first ones hit the “finish line” near the boat dock about an hour later.
A barbecue beef supper and awards ceremony were-held at the hall later that evening. All rafters received prizes and their were even a few prize draws for volunteer helpers.
Thanks to sponsors for this years race: Milo Lions Club, Agricore Milo, Slick Up Saloon,
Prairie Perfection Catering, Jamie’s Foods, Lakeside Services, Marks Oilfield Services,
Marathon, and Tiegen Transport. Thanks to Jana Godkin for organizing the event.
Because the number of rafts was down from last year, an event next year remains in question. We might have just a fun, informal, raft and float all day event.
300 of the raft race proceeds donated to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre.
1st raft in: The “Mad Cows”
Travis Deitz and Bill Godkin resurrected their “junkyard king” raft from last year. Despite some troubles with a slipping bike chain, they easily paddled to victory. Finely tuned adjustments of the bike chain on the paddle wheel saved the day. Fisherman please note: If anyone snags a hammer on the bottom of the lake,
please return to Ian Godkin.
Joining Travis’ and Bill’s team are Lacey Holoboff, Kurtis Harder, and Justin Valley. The “Snake Valley Outlaws” raft was a newly designed marvel for the Outlaws. Their log raft last year was “holey”. Congratulations on a second placefinish for Lyle,
G-Nel and Mary Nelson, Steve Edwards & Deanna McGorman.
The “Hope Floats” raft floated again.
The team says this was the last year for this raft as it is just too slow! Rumour has it that the trolling motor installed to propel to the starting line snuck into the water during the race too.
Rafters Brady & JanLaree Nelson, Chris Bartsch & Jana Godkin are pictured here from last year, (note the much warmer clothing).
The “Rough Rider” raft was a new entry.
This raft looked absolutely beautiful! Speed, however, fell by the wayside when the canoes filled with water!
A little nudging by Casey’s boat was needed. Rafters are Morgan Bath, Melissa McGill, Shae Oliver, Rebecca Holoboff, Nicole Lanigan & Jade R.

A sincere thank you to everyone who sent flowers, cards and sympathy wishes on the passing of our Mom, Sara Schneider. A very special thank you to Iris, Tracy, Mary, and Sue for listening and helping me through a tough time. And to Zara, for the visits that put a smile on her face. Thanks to the EMS group - Darlene, Dale and Stuart for giving her such professional and good care. We were so overwhelmed with all the well wishes from this community. And even though she only lived here for a very short period of time, she felt welcomed and at peace. For this, A VERY SPECIAL THANKS to all.

All the children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted it on the apple tray,"Take only one,
God is watching." Moving further along the line, at the other end of the table was a large plate of cookies. A child had written a note, "Take all you want, God is watching the apples." tttt **###***###***###***###***###

In Search of the Author of Chronica Polonorum Ascribed to Gallus Anonymus: A Stylometric Reconnaissance
The article deals with the question of authorship of the thirteenth-century Chronica Polonorum (or Gesta principium Polonorum [The Deeds of the Princes of the Poles]), also known as The Polish Chronicle. It seeks to verify the hypothesis, recently reproposed by Tomasz Jasiński, whereby the author was of Venetian origin. The hypothesis is namely based on the textual similarities observed between Translatio Sancti Nicolai by an author referred to as the ‘Monk of Lido’ (Monachus Littorensis) and the Chronica. The attribution attempt put forth by M. Eder is based upon stylometric methods that measure the frequencies of the most frequent words in the texts under research (mainly, conjunctions, prepositions, pronouns, and particles) which are subsequently subjected to cluster analysis, multidimensional scaling, or principal components analysis. The outcome of the experiment in question has demonstrated a strong resemblance between the Translatio Sancti Nicolai and the Polish Chronicle, which may be regarded as an substantial argument in support of the Venetian background hypothesis

Oliver Kühschelm, Franz X. Eder, Hannes Siegrist (Hg.): Konsum und Nation. Zur Geschichte nationalisierender Inszenierungen in der Produktkommunikation
Review of the edited volume "Konsum und Nation. Zur Geschichte nationalisierender Inszenierungen in der Produktkommunikation." (Kühschelm, Eder & Siegrist 2012). The author reviews the articles from a perspective of historic media studies. The editors believe that consumer goods not only have an exchange value but always also communicate meanings. This approach, so Dellmann, makes the publication interesting for scholars in media studies - even though only some articles discuss the mediating functions and communicated meanings of the consumer goods. Most articles analyze the presentation of goods in advertising or buy-national campaigns

Prunus domestica subsp. insititia Bonnier & Layens is a small and not highly domesticated stone fruit. The Austrian denotation is “Kriecherl” and stands for Bullace or Damson Plum. A high diversity of varieties exists, which is sparsely documented. The aim of this study is the description and classification of an old endemic “Kriecherl” landrace with yellow-green fruits cultivated in the northwest of Lower Austria. Of the 55 examined trees 33 were deemed to be identical phenotypes and were identified as an ilk. For this ilk the author suggests applying the name ‘Waldviertler Hochlandkriecherl’. Its blossom, fruit, stone and habitus were phenotypically described to show the characteristic of the identified ilk.Heterogeneity in its phenotyp was detected to verify its consistency as an ilk. Possibilities of phenotypical variation were considered. Variation of fruit trails may arise from environmental influence. Variation of stone dimension and morphology may due to somatic mutations or epigenetic mechanisms. An allocation of the ‘Waldviertler Hochlandkriecherl’ in the botanical taxonomy has been made. The ‘Waldviertler Hochlandkriecherl’ belongs to the “Haferpflaume”, which is more highly domesticated. Further, the taxonomy of the “Kriecherl” and its intraspecific relatives including their Latin and German terms was reconsidered. A new suitable taxonomical classification was created accordingly: Prunus domestica subsp. insititia SCHLOTTMANN – Kriecherl var. juliana JULSEN – Haferschlehe var. prisca BERTSCH – Ziparte var. alpiana EDER – Haferpflaumeverfasst von Gabriele EderMasterarbeit Universität für Bodenkultur Wien 2017Mit englischer Zusammenfassun
Corneille, Molière et les autres. Stilometrische Analysen zu Autorschaft und Gattungszugehörigkeit im französischen Theater der Klassik
The digital age, by making large amounts of text available to us, prompts us to develop new and additional reading strategies supported by the use of computers and enabling us to deal with such amounts of text. One such "distant reading" strategy is stylometry, a method of quantitative text analysis which relies on the frequencies of certain linguistic features such as words, letters or grammatical units to statistically assess the relative similarity of texts to each other and to classify texts on this basis. This method is applied here to French drama of the seventeenth century, more precisely to the now famous "Corneille / Molière- controversy". In this controversy, some researchers claim that Pierre Corneille wrote several of the plays traditionally attributed to Molière. The methodological challenge, it is shown here, lies in the fact that categories such as authorship, genre (comedy vs. tragedy) and literary form (prose vs. verse) all have an influence on stylometric distance measures and classification. Cross-genre and cross-form authorship attribution needs to distinguish such competing signals if it is to produce reliable attribution results. This contribution describes two attempts to accomplish this, parameter optimization and feature-range selection. The contribution concludes with some more general remarks about the use of quantitative methods in a hermeneutic discipline such as literary studies
The Comic English Grammar: A New And Facetious Introduction to The English Tongue
The Comic English Grammar by Percival Leigh, illustrated by John Leech, is an amusing work that satirizes traditional grammar instruction. In the preface, the author notes that grammar is usually presented as a "dry, dull, stupid" subject, stating his aim is to render it "palatable" and "amusing" to make it more memorable. The book follows the standard grammatical divisions, including Orthography, Etymology, Syntax, and Prosody. However, it explains each rule using social commentary and humorous personification. For example, when discussing the Parts of Speech, the Article (A, An, The) is defined as an "errand-boy" for nouns, while a Noun is defined with satirical examples such as "a humbug". The work cleverly teaches grammar rules while simultaneously offering a witty critique of the social manners of the era. Örneğin, Sözcük Türleri (Parts of Speech) tartışılırken, Artikel (A, An, The) isimlerin "emir eri" olarak, İsim (Noun) ise "sahtekarlık" (humbug) gibi hicivli örneklerle tanımlanır. Eser, dilbilgisi kurallarını öğretirken aynı zamanda dönemin toplumsal alışkanlıklarına da esprili bir eleştiri getirir
Level of School Implementation on the Key Dimensions of Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP): A Basis on Designing Policy Brief for Distance Learning
Abstract: The main objective of the study is to develop what policy brief for distance learning can be proposed in the Division of Calamba City? Adoption of the Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) for school year 2020-2021 considering the covid-19 public health emergency states that the key elements of the learning strategies that shall operationalize the BE-LCP are the streamlining of the K to 12 Curriculum into the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) and allowing of multiple learning delivery modalities such as distance learning on place of face-to-face learning delivery modality. To help learners, parents, and teachers implement these learning delivery modalities, Self-Learning Modules (SLMs) shall be made available in print and offline/online digital format.

How does didactic knowledge develop?: Experiences from a design project
We, the authors of the paper, have jointly conducted several design-based research (DBR) projects. The subject of this paper is a project lasting approximately 18 months, which dealt with the introduction of a new curriculum in a vocational college. We were involved in different roles: one as a representative of the research community and the other as a representative of the vocational college and thus of practice. In the project, different interests were considered: the research division wanted to generate knowledge while the practitioners were interested in implementing a curriculum and developing new forms of learning and teaching. It is not that we could always assign each of these two perspectives to exactly one of us, even though we were officially researchers and practitioners. We have always approached each other in our DBR projects.
Both perspectives have been incorporated into the paper: One author is concerned with the genesis of knowledge—how knowledge is created in DBR projects, a partly methodological approach. The other author attempts to find theoretical points of reference and reassurances about the project work. This leads to very practical considerations.
The project did not commence with an exactly defined problem; we began with broad concerns that had to be distilled into specific goals over the course of the project..
We had to conduct dialogical planning in our different roles and responsibilities. After each work phase and workshop, we reviewed and made a record of what had happened and how, the condition of the group and what it should work on in the next practical phase. This was supplemented with classroom visits and one-on-one discussions with various project participants. The information derived from these evaluations was subsequently used in the planning of the next cycle. Therefore, in the next cycle, the same project was not conducted, but a revised project was developed, which continued from where the previous cycle had ended. Thus, the problem definition continued evolving. In this paper, we have tried to concisely present how the work progressed in phases and cycles and roughly described the thought process and evaluations that shaped this project. Perceived this way, this paper serves two different interests. First, it shows how a problem definition was developed and further sharpened and what concrete result was obtained in the process. This is indicated by the subtitle. Second, it explains how knowledge is created and defines the scope and specificity of this knowledge
