    No full text
During recent studies on the revision of the genus Usnea in Turkey, some specimens morphologically close to U. subfloridana Stirt. were found with +/- stipitate soralia (i. e. soralia produced on small tubercles) and with baeomycesic acid in the medulla. They were collected in several localities in northeast Turkey. These specimens proved to be U. pacificana, known hitherto from Oregon, Washington (USA) and British Columbia (Canada) (Halonen 2000). Morphological characters were studied on freshly collected specimens using a CARL ZEISS Stemi 2000-C dissecting microscope. Selected specimens were analyzed for secondary metabolites by high performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) in accordance with Arup et al. (1993), using a CAMAG Nanomat 4 sample applicator and a CAMAG horizontal development chamber. We also sequenced ITS regions from DNA samples obtained from several Usnea species collected from Turkey, but these sequences will be discussed in a forthcoming paper.Scientific & Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) [210T022]This research was supported by the Scientific & Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK, Project number 210T022). a^{a}Permanent address of M. and L. Halonen: Laboratory of Physical Chemistry, P.O. Box 55 (A.I. Virtasen aukio 1). FIN-00014 University of Helsinki, Finland b^{b}D.Cavagnat, L. Lespade, and C. Lapouge, Ber. Bunsenges Phys. Chem. 99, 544 (1995)Author Institution: Department of Chemistry, Princeton UniversityThe first C-H stretching overtone region of nitromethane has been measured using a bolometer detected molecular beam machine with a resonance cavity. Nitromethane is an almost free rotor with a very low torsional barrier in the ground state. The purpose of this study is to find out whether the low 6-fold barrier of the ground state will turn to a much higher 2-fold barrier in the first stretching vibrational overtone of nitromethane with 2 quanta of stretching vibrational energy.benergy. ^{b} This might happen, if the vibrational energy would stay localised in one bond long enough compared with the period of internal rotation. The spectrum of nitromethane has been measured in the wavenumber region 60476055cm16047-6055 cm^{-1} with a resolution of 5MHz. As the rotational temperature is very low, only levels with the internal rotation quantum number m=0 and m=1 should be significantly populated. The spectrum has been assigned using ground state combination differences. Using a rigid rotor program the band center and the rotational constants have been obtained for the m=0 state. The analysis of the m=1 state is in progress

Temperature Compensation of Crystal References in NB-IoT Modems

    No full text
The low-cost nature of NB-IoT modems encourages them to deploy uncompensated crystal oscillators (XOs) as frequency references. The frequency offset of an uncompensated XO, however, makes network acquisition inefficient under low network coverage. In the worst case, the bulk of an NB-IoT modem's power is consumed in network acquisition. This work demonstrates a discrete frequency synthesizer prototype that employs its phase-locked loop to compensate for the frequency offset of its reference XO. We propose an accurate crystal model and a compensation logic that are suitable for 32-bit microprocessors, commonly available in NB-IoT modems. Alternatively, when synthesized in a commercial 65-nm process in 24-bit precision, the proposed compensation logic is simulated to require a total area of 0.029 mm2 and power of 290 nW at a refresh rate of 1.4 kHz. Moreover, the XO model requires only 0.16 kB of RAM. The prototype achieves a compensation error level of down to 27 ppb (3Σ) over the temperature range from-40 to 85 °C. The dominant error sources of the prototype are discussed in detail. In addition, we show that an NB-IoT modem can use the information acquired from sequential network acquisitions to compose and update its XO model in the field. This support for field calibration removes the need for XO characterization in production and ensures the validity of the model over the NB-IoT modem's lifespan. The prototype achieves a compensation error level of down to 50 ppb (3Σ) in an emulated in-field calibration test, sufficient to ensure energy-efficient low-latency network acquisition under low network coverage.Peer reviewe

Opinnäytetyö on toiminnallinen työ. The commission was to create a job orientation guide for Restaurant Paltamon Sydän. The orientation guide was due by April 2011, when many new employees were coming. The main purpose of this guide was to make employees understand and learn how to work in this restaurant. When the employee is properly trained, he/she will become a more productive employee faster. The orientation guide will be a good tool for job orientation situations in the restaurant. This thesis is a functional work. The guide was made by collecting information from different sources found in books and the internet. One major information source was the commissioner who gave a lot of information about the company and assisted with the contents of the guide. One member of the thesis group was working there earlier, so she also knew what kind of things new employees should learn when they arrive to work for the first time. Furthermore earlier work experience helped the authors to understand what job orientation was. Additional information was also acquired by interviewing the company´s current employees. The output from this functional work is the guide which was developed, and the cleaning program as well as manager´s checklist for orientation. The theoretical framework comprises job orientation; what job orientation is, and how it is done correctly, as well as what the orientation plan should include not to forget the law concerning orientation at the work place

    No full text
This article presents a low-power wireless narrowband (NB) transceiver consisting of a 434-MHz NB transmitter (NBTX) and a 434-MHz NB receiver (NBRX) implemented in 0.18 μ m CMOS. The NBTX utilizes differential pulse-position modulation (DPPM) to decrease consumed energy per bit (EPB) by up to 67% compared to on-off keying (OOK). The packet error performance of DPPM with a soft-decision decoding scheme is analyzed. According to the results, the packet error ratio (PER) does not deteriorate compared to OOK except at very low signal-to-noise levels. The lowest power consumption of the NBTX is 8.3 μ W when DPPM data is transmitted continuously. Utilizing packet-mode transmission, the average power consumption is 67 nW at a data rate of 4.8 kbps. The transmitted data was received with a PER of 0.1% by a receiver placed at a 30-meter distance from the NBTX. With a higher power consumption of 2.5 μ W at the same data rate, the estimated line-of-sight (LOS) uplink range is up to 200 meters. The NBRX is a mixer-firstuncertain-IF receiver. A temperature-compensated ring oscillator (TCRO) is utilized as a local oscillator. Its measured deviation of frequency is from +0.1% to -1.2% over a temperature range from -40 to +85 °C. The NBRX utilizes Manchester encoding and the sensitivity is -87 to -82 dBm over the temperature range at a data rate of 40 kbps. The NBRX consumes 85 μ W.Peer reviewe
