Reanalysis and correction of bedload relation of Meyer-Peter and Müller using their own database
ABSTRACT: The pioneering predictor of fluvial bedload transport rate proposed by Meyer-Peter and Müller in 1948 is still extensively used in basic research and engineering applications. A review of the basis for its formulation reveals, however, that an unnecessary bed roughness correction was applied to cases of plane-bed morphodynamic equilibrium. Its inclusion followed a flow resistance parameterization in terms of the Nikuradse roughness height, which has been shown (well after the publication of their work) to be inappropriate for the characterization of mobile bed rough conditions in rivers. Removing the unnecessary correction and incorporating an improved correction of the boundary shear stress due to sidewall effects allow elucidation of the most parsimonious form of the bedload relation of Meyer-Peter and Müller that is dictated by their own data set. The new predictor is presented in terms of two alternative power law forms. These amended forms show that, in the case of lower-regime plane bed equilibrium transport of uniform bed sediment, the new estimates of volume bedload transport rates are less than or equal to half the values that would be obtained with the original relation of Meyer-Peter and Müller in the absence of the unnecessary bed roughness correction. ANALISIS LAJU SEDIMENTASI PADA SUNGAI AIR SAMBAT KABUPATEN KAUR MENGGUNAKAN METODE MEYER PETER MULLER DAN VAN RIJN
Sungai Air Sambat terletak di Kecamatan Maje, Kabupaten Kaur, Provinsi Bengkulu. Sungai Air Sambat merupakan kawasan budidaya masyarakat, baik itu di wilayah Garis Sempadan Sungai (GSS) maupun wilayah tangkapan air. Kondisi aliran Sungai Air Sambat dikategorikan buruk, pada musim kemarau air dapat surut secara drastis dan pada musim hujan dapat menimbulkan banjir. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk Mengetahui jenis sedimen dan Mengetahui laju angkutan sedimen dasar di Sungai Air Sambat bagian Hilir di Sungai Air Sambat Kabupaten Kaur, Provinsi Bengkulu. Data yang diperoleh di lapangan berupa data kecepatan aliran, kedalaman, dan sampel sedimen dasar (bedload). Sampel penelitian diuji di laboratorium untuk mengetahui jenis pasir dan memperoleh data yang digunakan untuk analisis. Metode perhitungan analisis yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode Meyer Peter Muller dan metode Van Rijn. Hasil penelitian memberikan hasil Metode Meyer-Peter Muller cocok digunakan untuk menggambarkan kondisi pengendapan sedimen di area tinjauan dengan tingkat sedimentasi sebesar 3,057 105 ton/tahun. Les formules du charriage de Kalinske, Meyer-Peter et Muller, et d'Einstein ont été examinées par rapport à leur application dans le Laboratoire et pour trouver une formule valable pour les rivières néerlandaises. La formule de Kalinske a été adaptée aux ondulations du lit, de la même manière que cela a été fait par Meyer-Peter et Muller. Proposition d'une modification simplifiée, basée sur les résultats de plusieurs essais systématiques. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
