A SOA-Based Module for the Production of Geo-Summaries
The authors present in this paper the functionalities of the Metadata Retrieval (MDR) module, a software component developed to enrich the information content of a system controlling a fleet of Unmanned Aircraft Vehicles (UAVs) by means of annotations on locations provided by Volunteered Geographical Information (VGI) projects. MDR, developed in the context of an overall project based on SOA architecture, adds updated information to the system via Web Services provided by OpenStreetMap and GeoNames. Furthermore, MDR can be applied for the acquisition and the integration of users' spatial annotations and use them in any way to produce, illustrate and enhance geo-summaries. Actually MDR performs the content characterization of a spatial area by means of a filter that selects the statistically significant annotations whose frequency in the area is in contrast with the surrounding
The thesis is inspired by the study of several concepts that, nowadays, cannot be considered even simple and acquired to the juridical doctrine, like legal set of rules, law and juridical norm. A preliminary reflection about the point is a fundamental step in order to better understand the characters of the norm within the system of right’ springs in general, with particular interest for the labour law; the conjecture is that if we consider as springs of right the “situations” in which the right arises and develops itself, then we have to accept that collective bargain is the well of right, even if it is sui generis.
Pursuant to this hypothesis, the examination carried out along the present thesis has checked different models of interaction between law and collective bargaining from the beginnings to the present day of what today we refers to as “labour law”, in order to understanding a various relationships of supremacy between law and collective bargaining; in the past, indeed, the power of waiving the law by collective bargain it was considered an exception, but this relationship was slowly became a stable model of Italian legislation, model that today considers as similar law and collective bargain in the matter of business relationships.
In the end of this dissertation, the constitutional limits of this approach that prevent to the legislator of abdicating, as a figure to speech, its “traditional” protective role of workers through arrangement of fundamental rights, are investigated, by means of an accurate and deepened analysis of Clauses 1 and 2 of Italian Consitution
A SOA-Based System for Territory Monitoring
Next is a presentation of the complete system architecture, followed by a discussion of the details of the various services. Amongst these services, management and simulation of tactical planning, management of data and streaming video, the system also presents a service for the annotation of the interested spatial objects. Annotation deploys the web services (Alonso, Casati, Kuno, & Machiraju, 2004) exported by OpenStreetMap (OpenStreetMap) with the purpose to exploit the on-line information sources continuously updated by the social networks communities.</jats:p
Identifying Trends in Feature Attributions During Training of Neural Networks
This study investigates the evolving dynamics of commonly used feature attribution (FA) values during training of neural networks. As models transition from a state of high uncertainty to low uncertainty, we show that the features’ significance also changes, which is inline with the general learning theory of deep neural networks. During model training, we compute FA scores through Layer-wise Relevance Propagation (LRP) and Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM), which are selected for their efficiency and speed of computation. We summarize the attribution scores in terms of the sum of the absolute values of FA scores and their entropy. We further analyze these summary scores in relation to the models’ generalization capabilities. The analysis identifies trends where FA values increase in magnitude while entropy decreases during the training process, regardless of model generalization, suggesting independence of overfitting. This research offers a unique view on the application of FA methods in explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) and raises intriguing questions about their behavior across varying model architectures and datasets, which may have implications for future work combining XAI and uncertainty estimation in machine learning
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
