Use of simulation models to aid soil and water conservation actions for sustainable agro-forested systems
Adequate planning of soil and water conservation requires understanding and prediction of the interactions between soil, climate and management scenarios. These interactions have been investigated over the last decades by means of modelling tools. Some of the most widely used models, namely KINEROS, WEPP, SWAT, and AnnAGNPS have been compared in terms of interfaces, processes, data and parameter requirements, to describe their application domain. Some applicative cases are also added to evidence the importance of rainfall regimes, processes scale, land typologies and management for soil and water conservation modelling, to support the needs of farmers, researchers, extension services and land planners. Pearl Millet (Pennisetumglaucum L.) Research in India: A scientometric journey through the last two decades (2000-2022)
Pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum L.), a member of the Poaceae family, is a widely cultivated cereal crop and considered to be one of the most important millet crops globally due to its remarkable drought tolerance, adaptability to marginal environments, and high nutritional value. This scientometric study aims to identify the most relevant sources of information in the field of pearl millet research in India during 2000-2022. A total of 844 documents from 181 sources were identified, indicating a moderate level of research activity. The average citations per document were 13.42, suggesting that the research landscape in India has received a reasonable level of attention in the scientific community. The highest number of articles published were in 2021 (55) followed by 2020 (51) and 2018 (44). The data showed that the Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences was the most prolific and the other journals maintained a relatively stable production over time. The most frequent topics were downy mildew, Sclerospora graminicola, and sorghum. The results suggest that India has established collaborative relationships with various countries worldwide to produce scientific papers
The shannon capacity on C(n,k)
This thesis focuses on a problem formulated by Claude Shannon named the Shannon capacity. This problem is about information rate per time unit over a noisy channel. The noisy channel is here represented by a graph. We specifically focus on a class of circulant graphs that are denoted by C(n,k) with vertex set z/nz, where all vertices are connected with the k-1 vertices before and after it. We will discuss upper bounds that were found for the Shannon capacity and how C(n,k) behaves with these upper bounds. After that we will focus on multiple ways to calculate lower bounds for the Shannon capacity of . For these three search methods will be used. These are exhaustive searching for optimal values, optimal ways to make packagings and solutions created by using a special form. As last the answers will be discussed by combining the upper and lower bounds for C(n,k). From this conclusions are drawn after which some possibilities will be given for further research. Measurement of the ratio of branching fractions B(B0→K∗0γ )/B(B0s→φγ ) and the directCP asymmetry inB 0→K∗0γ
The ratio of branching fractions of the radiative B decays B0→K⁎0γ and B0s→ϕγ has been measured using an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb−1 of pp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of s√=7TeV. The value obtained is
B(B0→K⁎0γ)B(B0s→ϕγ)=1.23±0.06(stat.)±0.04(syst.)±0.10(fs/fd),
where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty and the third is associated with the ratio of fragmentation fractions fs/fd. Using the world average value for B(B0→K⁎0γ), the branching fraction B(B0s→ϕγ) is measured to be (3.5±0.4)×10−5.
The direct CP asymmetry in B0→K⁎0γ decays has also been measured with the same data and found to be
ACP(B0→K⁎0γ)=(0.8±1.7(stat.)±0.9(syst.))%.
Both measurements are the most precise to date and are in agreement with the previous experimental results and theoretical expectations
Query Complexity of Search Problems
We relate various complexity measures like sensitivity, block sensitivity, certificate complexity for multi-output functions to the query complexities of such functions. Using these relations, we provide the following improvements upon the known relationship between pseudo-deterministic and deterministic query complexity for total search problems:
- We show that deterministic query complexity is at most the third power of its pseudo-deterministic query complexity. Previously, a fourth-power relation was shown by Goldreich, Goldwasser and Ron (ITCS'13).
- We improve the known separation between pseudo-deterministic and randomized decision tree size for total search problems in two ways: (1) we exhibit an exp(Ω̃(n^{1/4})) separation for the SearchCNF relation for random k-CNFs. This seems to be the first exponential lower bound on the pseudo-deterministic size complexity of SearchCNF associated with random k-CNFs. (2) we exhibit an exp(Ω(n)) separation for the ApproxHamWt relation. The previous best known separation for any relation was exp(Ω(n^{1/2})). We also separate pseudo-determinism from randomness in And and (And,Or) decision trees, and determinism from pseudo-determinism in Parity decision trees. For a hypercube colouring problem, that was introduced by Goldwasswer, Impagliazzo, Pitassi and Santhanam (CCC'21) to analyze the pseudo-deterministic complexity of a complete problem in TFNP^{dt}, we prove that either the monotone block-sensitivity or the anti-monotone block sensitivity is Ω(n^{1/3}); Goldwasser et al. showed an Ω(n^{1/2}) bound for general block-sensitivity
Computer-aided diagnosis of diabetic subjects by heart rate variability signals using discrete wavelet transform method
Diabetes Mellitus (DM), a chronic lifelong condition, is characterized by increased blood sugar levels. As there is no cure for DM, the major focus lies on controlling the disease. Therefore, DM diagnosis and treatment is of great importance. The most common complications of DM include retinopathy, neuropathy, nephropathy and cardiomyopathy. Diabetes causes cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy that affects the Heart Rate Variability (HRV). Hence, in the absence of other causes, the HRV analysis can be used to diagnose diabetes. The present work aims at developing an automated system for classification of normal and diabetes classes by using the heart rate (HR) information extracted from the Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. The spectral analysis of HRV recognizes patients with autonomic diabetic neuropathy, and gives an earlier diagnosis of impairment of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS). Significant correlations with the impaired ANS are observed of the HRV spectral indices obtained by using the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) method. Herein, in order to diagnose and detect DM automatically, we have performed DWT decomposition up to 5 levels, and extracted the energy, sample entropy, approximation entropy, kurtosis and skewness features at various detailed coefficient levels of the DWT. We have extracted relative wavelet energy and entropy features up to the 5th level of DWT coefficients extracted from HR signals. These features are ranked by using various ranking methods, namely, Bhattacharyya space algorithm, t-test, Wilcoxon test, Receiver Operating Curve (ROC) and entropy. The ranked features are then fed into different classifiers, that include Decision Tree (DT), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Naïve Bayes (NBC) and Support Vector Machine (SVM). Our results have shown maximum diagnostic differentiation performance by using a minimum number of features. Underutilized Fruit Crops of Indian Arid and Semi-Arid Regions: Importance, Conservation and Utilization Strategies
Nowadays, there is a large demand for nutrient-dense fruits to promote nutritional and metabolic human health. The production of commercial fruit crops is becoming progressively input-dependent to cope with the losses caused by biotic and abiotic stresses. A wide variety of underutilized crops, which are neither commercially cultivated nor traded on a large scale, are mainly grown, commercialized and consumed locally. These underutilized fruits have many advantages in terms of ease to grow, hardiness and resilience to climate changes compared to the major commercially grown crops. In addition, they are exceptionally rich in important phytochemicals and have medicinal value. Hence, their consumption may help to meet the nutritional needs of rural populations, such as those living in fragile arid and semi-arid regions around the world. In addition, local people are well aware of the nutritional and medicinal properties of these crops. Therefore, emphasis must be given to the rigorous study of the conservation and the nutritional characterization of these crops so that the future food basket may be widened for enhancing its functional and nutritional values.
