So, she thought, "We have to run away from this village. If not, my children will die." She carried her step-son on her back and let her real child walk by holding her hand. And they left the village. She was such a kind-hearted woman. The measles disease knew about that and transformed into herself as a human. And she went to the widow. She asked her, "Where are you going?" The widow answered, "I am running away from my village because measles disease has spread. To protect my two children, I had to leave my village. I am on my way to another village." Then, the woman asked her again, "Why are you carrying the older and bigger child instead of carrying the younger one?" The widow said, "It's because he didn't have parents. His parents were dead. So, I'm afraid he might feel upset. And this younger child is my daughter. She has me. So, I let her walk." After hearing her answer, the measles thought, "Ummm, this woman is good-natured and kind-hearted." She said, "Now, you don't need to run away. Go back to your house. And cover the whole village with red thread. Then, the disease will disappear. The widow went back to her village and covered the whole village with red, white and black thread. Programa de Pós-Graduação em Literatura.No conjunto das narrativas ficcionais da escritora brasileira Ana Miranda, a temática da viagem # considerada uma das mais férteis da literatura ocidental de todos os tempos # ocupa um espaço de centralidade, podendo até mesmo ser vista como o mais importante eixo de estruturação de suas obras. O estudo realizado pela presente tese tem por objetivo analisar o tratamento dado ao tema da viagem nos romances Desmundo, O retrato do rei, Dias & Dias e Amrik, evidenciando que por intermédio das narradora-viajantes # Oribela, Mariana, Feliciana e Amina # a autora promove um diálogo entre diferentes culturas, gêneros, etnias e gerações, ao mesmo tempo em que estabelece um profícuo diálogo com o passado em sua invariante problematização concernente aos limites e cruzamentos entre o discurso ficcional e os discursos narrativos extraliterários que o cercam, sobretudo o histórico e o biográfico. In the whole of Brazilian writer Ana Miranda#s fictional narrative, the travel thematic # considered one of the most fertile themes of the western literature of all times # occupies a central space, and can even been seen as the most important structuring axis of Miranda#s works. The aim of the present thesis is to analyze the treatment given to the travel subject in the novels Desmundo, O retrato do rei, Dias & Dias and Amrik, emphasizing that, through the traveling narrators, Oribela, Mariana, Feliciana and Amina, the author promotes a connection between different cultures, genders, ethnics and generations, at the same time that establishes a profitable dialogue with the past in her invariant problematization concerning the limits and crossings between the fictional and the extra-literary narrative discourses that surrounds it, mainly the historical and the biographic ones
EDUCATIONAL VALUES FROM THE CHARACTERS OF EL SHIRAZY'S NOVEL 'AYAT-AYAT CINTA': A SOCIOLOGY OF LITERATURE PERSPECTIVE
This article aimed at finding out the educational values reflected by characters in the novel Ayat-ayat Cinta written by Habiburrahman El Shirazy from sociological approach to literature. This was a descriptive-qualitative research with textual data in the form of words, phrases, clauses, sentences, and discourse uttered by the characters and narrated by the author in the novel. The result shows that the novel contains some moral messages as well as educational values. Each character in this novel carries educational messages through their characterizations and plot of the story

Said in a university seminar two years ago. His name was mentioned by one of my American teachers and not many of us knew who Edward Said was. After trying to find out who he was I was amazed that I had never heard about one of the most widely known and controversial intellectuals of the twentieth century. I was very surprised that this influential author within the fields of literary theory, post-colonial and cultural studies is so little known within the Czech academic sphere. One of the most striking facts is that as of September 2007, there were only five entries by Said in the Czech National Library!. Similarly, only three of his brief essays were translated into Czech? Thus the purpose of this thesis is to grant appropriate attention to Edward W. Said and present an interpretive overview of his work which is necessary before one can begin to place Said in proper perspectives as the individual whom many have claimed as a centrally important twentieth century figure. It will explore Said's contribution to many disciplines ranging from literary theory and criticism to cultural history to postcolonial studies, as well as the literary, cultural, social, and aesthetic roles he has played as an academic intellectual. Discurso e história: representações do feminino em Ana Bolena
The central theme of this work is the construction of the identity of the female gender in the light of discourse analysis. To achieve this goal we used three different media productions made during the twentieth and twenty-first century that address the same historical character: Anne Boleyn, the second wife of Henry VIII. From the research and analysis of images carefully selected to represent three different real moments of Anne Boleyn, it was possible to realize how the same scene may have different approaches and how such approaches are influenced not only by the author of the work, but also by a discursive game that coordinates what can or can't be said by a society. The study concludes that the discourse analysis, besides assisting in the understanding of life and speeches of the historical character in question, also provides subsidies to know the society not only at the time that Anne Boleyn lived, but also at the time when the media productions studied here were performedO tema central deste trabalho é a construção da identidade do feminino à luz da Análise do discurso. Para alcançar tal objetivo foram utilizadas três diferentes produções midiáticas feitas durante o século XX e XXI que abordam a mesma personagem histórica: Ana Bolena, a segunda esposa de Henrique VIII. A partir da investigação e análise de cenas selecionadas para representar três diferentes momentos reais de Ana Bolena foi possível notar como a mesma cena pode ter diferentes abordagens e como tais abordagens são influenciadas não só pelo autor da obra, mas também por um jogo discursivo que coordena o que se pode ou não ser dito por uma sociedade. O estudo conclui que a Análise do Discurso, além de auxiliar na compreensão da vida e dos discursos da personagem histórica em questão, também nos proporciona subsídios para conhecer a sociedade não só da época em que Ana Bolena viveu, mas também da época em que foram realizadas as produções midiáticas por este trabalho estudada

Gerunds in uzbek turkish through Said Ahmad?s novel called ?UFQ?
Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, Türk Edebiyatı Bölümü, Türk Dili ve Edebiyatı Ana Bilim DalıBu çalışmada 20. yüzyıl Özbek edebiyatının önemli yazarlarından biri olan Said Ahmad (1920?2007)'ın Ufq adlı romanındaki zarf?fiilleri inceledik.Çalışmamız başlıca üç bölümü içine almaktadır:Tezimizin Giriş bölümünde Özbek adının kökeni, Özbek tarihi ve Özbek Türkçesi hakkında genel bilgiler yer almaktadır.1. Bölümde, Özbek yazar Said Ahmad'ın hayatı ve sanatı hakkında bilgiler verilmektedir.2. Bölümde, Kiril alfabesiyle yazılmış olan Ufq romanının çeviri yazısını ve Türkiye Türkçesine aktarımını yaptık.3. Bölümde Ufq romanını tarayarak romanda geçen ve çalışmamızın esas bölümünü oluşturan zarf?fiilleri tespit ettik. Tespit ettiğimiz zarf?fiilleri; asıl zarf?fiil ekleri, zarf?fiil işlevindeki birleşik şekiller ve aslında zarf?fiil olmayan, ama zarf?fiil işleviyle kullanılan şekiller olmak üzere üç ana başlıkta inceledik. Daha kolay anlaşılabilmesi için romanda geçen zarf?fiil örneklerini Türkiye Türkçesine aktardık.Çalışmamız sonuç bölümüyle tamamlanmaktadır.Çalışmamız esnasında incelediğimiz konuların daha iyi anlaşılması için mümkün olduğunca çok örnek vermeye çalıştık.Anahtar Kelimeler: Özbek Türkçesi, Said Ahmad, Zarf?Fiil, Şekil Bilgisi, FiilIn this study, we examined gerunds in the novel ?Ufq? of Said Ahmad (1920-2007), who is among the significant authors of 20th century Uzbek literature.The study consists of mainly three sections:In the Introduction section of the thesis, general information about the origin of Uzbek name, Uzbek history and Uzbek Turkish is given.Information about the Uzbek author Said Ahmad?s life and his art is mentioned in the 1st section.In the 2nd section, the novel Ufq, which is written in Cyril alphabet, is translated and transcribed into Turkish.In the 3rd section, the novel Ufq is scanned and gerunds, which are the basic part of our study, are determined. These gerunds are examined under three basic headings: main gerunds, compound forms having gerund function and forms serving as gerunds but not gerunds in fact. The presence of absence as poetics in Ana Luiza's letter
Diferentemente da carta convencional, mais utilitária e direta, a carta literária apresenta um caráter elaborado e artístico, permitindo que a narrativa se desenvolva por meio de reflexões íntimas, críticas sociais e políticas, ou mesmo pela construção de um enredo ficcional complexo. Ana Luiza, personagem central de Essa coisa viva, de Maria Esther Maciel, tem sua história reconstruída por meio de uma carta, recurso que evidencia a potência estética e expressiva do gênero epistolar literário. Ao escolher o gênero epistolar para narrar a trajetória de Ana Luiza, Maciel também mobiliza o conceito de presença da ausência, já que a carta revela tanto o que é dito quanto o que se insinua como falta, silêncio ou memória fragmentada. Partindo do estudo das concepções literárias do gênero carta, este trabalho busca analisar como esse formato contribui para a construção do romance e de que maneira a autora utiliza a escrita epistolar para estruturar a relação entre a personagem e o enredo. Além da leitura de Essa coisa viva, serão incorporadas reflexões a partir de Carta ao pai, de Franz Kafka, articuladas a elementos da teoria psicanalítica freudiana, especialmente no que tange às dinâmicas de memória, ausência e subjetividade presentes na escrita epistolar, com vistas a estabelecer de que modo a presença na ausência é a espinha dorsal da narrativa.Unlike the conventional letter, which is more utilitarian and direct, the literary letter presents an elaborate and artistic character, allowing the narrative to develop through intimate reflections, social and political critiques, or even the construction of a complex fictional plot. Ana Luiza, the central character in Maria Esther Maciel's work, Essa coisa viva, has her story reconstructed through a letter, a device that highlights the aesthetic and expressive power of the epistolary literary genre. By choosing the epistolary genre to narrate Ana Luiza's trajectory, Maciel also mobilizes the concept of the presence of absence, since the letter reveals both what is said and what is insinuated as lack, silence, or fragmented memory. Based on the study of literary conceptions of the letter genre, this work seeks to analyze how this format contributes to the construction of the novel and how the author uses epistolary writing to structure the relationship between the character and the plot. In addition to reading That Living Thing, reflections will be incorporated from Kafka's Letter to The Father, articulated with elements of Freudian psychoanalytic theory, especially regarding the dynamics of memory, absence, and subjectivity present in epistolary writing in order to show how the presence in absence is the main foundation of the narrative
“Who said it?” How contextual information influences perceived profundity of meaningful quotes and pseudo‐profound bullshit
Psychological research on pseudo-profound bullshit—randomly assembled buzz words plugged into a syntactic structure—has only recently begun. Most such research has focused on dispositional traits, such as thinking styles or political orientation. However, none has investigated contextual factors. In two studies, we introduce a new paradigm by investigating the contextual effect on pseudo-profound bullshit and meaningful quotes. In Study 1, all participants rated the profundity of statements in three contexts: (a) isolated, (b) as allegedly said by a famous author, or (c) within a vignette (short story). Study 2 serves as a conceptual replication in which participants rated statements in only one of three contexts. Overall, our results demonstrate that although contextual information such as author's name increases the perceived profundity of bullshit, it has an inconsistent effect on meaningful quotes. The present study helps to better understand the bullshit receptivity while offering a new line of research
