Alt(r)o gradimento.
An exemplary representative of a generation of young, eclectic intellectuals and artists, active in various areas of the cultural industry, Giacomo (Mino) Guerrini was one of the best preserved secrets ever in the history of Italian cinema. Guerrini was many things: besides being a man of cinema - whose films range from Italian comedy to horror, from spy-story to popular comedy - he was also a painter and artist, journalist and writer, television and radio author. A man of show business and an intellectual capable of moving on many levels and in different areas, without ever bothering to distinguish between high and low culture. The essay focuses in particular on the film tetralogy dedicated to the popular character of Colonel Buttiglione, created by Mario Marenco for the radio program "Alto gradimento": a first, ramshackle example of intermediality to be evaluated, however, with an attention that highlights, along with the many flaws, the elements of interest

Il collezionista e il bibliotecario: Ugo Da Como, Paolo Guerrini e la storia della stampa a Brescia
The paper reconstructs the relationship between Senator Ugo Da Como (1869-1941), a collector, and the priest Paolo Guerrini (1880-1960), a local historian. The sources are mainly documents preserved in the Foundation Ugo Da Como (Lonato del Garda), which offer interesting informations on the making of the personal book collection of Da Como and, more generally, on the history of printing in Brescia. The author further emphasizes a less known aspect of the life of Guerrini, who was a prominent figure in the local antiquarian book trade during the Twenties and the Thirties of the 20th century
Empathy between Art and Design
This short essay delineates the art contest in which the notion of empathy developed between the late 19th and the early 20th century. Explores its meaning as the condition that makes intersubjectivity possible in Husserlian Phenomenology, especially in Edith Stein’s interpretation. It provides clues to understand the reasons that brought design culture focusing on empathy from the late 1990s onward. The increase of the participatory approach in design processes puts intersubjectivity – and therefore empathy – at the centre of any design practice.
Since Alice Devecchi, the author of the book in which the essay appears, focuses on empathy or, more precisely, on designing the empathic experience, the text provides comments and clues about the contest, the approach and the outcomes of her work – primarily focusing on the relevance of the arts as a means to increase design knowledge, an approach to research that Devecchi shares with the author, who also was the supervisor of her PhD thesis
Performance measurement system change:a consulting company perspective
This article explores how consulting companies develop
performance measurement system change (PMSC) through an analysis of the
processes, tools and techniques they adopt and the internal actors involved.
Moreover, it aims to demonstrate the existence of a situational approach in
changing a PMS related to the nature of services provided by each consulting
company. In a multiple case study, the author selected 18 consulting companies
that offer PMSC services and collected data through 36 partially structured
interviews (two managers from each company) and a brainstorming session
with three consultants from different firms. The data were analysed using
cross-case and within case analysis and descriptive statistics
Il catalogo di qualità : che vi sia ciascun lo dice, dove sia, nessun lo sa
Quality is essential in any field of interest and activity (ref. UNI EN ISO 8402:1995 Quality management and quality assurance). What does quality mean in a library catalog? What are the requirements for quality? Quantitative measures are not enough to determine the quality of a catalog. The author proposes ten principles of qualitative analysis: authority control; cataloguing rules; competence and speedness of work; availability of databases and indexes; software and hardware used; clearness and readability of the catalog; reading ability; record functionality; every reader his catalog; maintenance frequency
Earth, Wind and Fire
This project was an exhibition curated by Juan Carlos Bolivar and Jennifer Guerrini Maraldi, accompanied by a colour catalogue with essay by internationally acclaimed author and critic Barry Schwabsky (ISBN 978 1 9997671 2 9).
The exhibition examined attitudes and intentions between the cultural difference inherent in contemporary painting made by Indigenous Australian artists and those working in Europe.
Three paintings were exhibited by Richard Kirwan
Notes on Doctoral Research in Design. Contributions from the Politecnico di Milano
The Politecnico di Milano was among the first universities in Italy to start a PhD programme in Industrial design in 1990. During twenty years the research activity has strengthened the disciplinary core of design, has specified the methodological aspects and theory, while the topics of research were gradually expanded to those new fields that design was embracing, such as sustainability, services and interface design. In 2008 the programme – now PhD in Design – focused its attention on the nature of design, with its aesthetic, formal, performance and meaning values. In this respect the challenge has become to reconsider design activity, notably that related to practice, as the centre of investigation.
The book (edited by the author) collects the first results of this new direction of research. Most of the contributions for the book have been written on the occasion of the PhD Opening Ceremony, held at the Politecnico in March 2010 and focused on the relations between Design and Science.
The essay by the author, entitled “A cultural shift: the role of Italian design in the doctoral programme approach”, briefly summarises a forty-year debate on this topic, focusing its attention on two concepts both defined from mid ’70s onward: that of “wicked problems” as typical of design process (Rittel and Weber, Schön, Buchanan) and that of a “designerly way of thinking”, as an autonomous way of thinking distinct from that of science and the humanities (Archer, Cross).
Following the debate on these concepts, similarities can be recognised among them and some of the main features of Italian tradition, notably that of a “critical” approach to design, a way of thinking that can be invigorated and renewed within a PhD programme
Padri della Chiesa e scrittori ecclesiastici occidentali (secoli II-XIII)
ACOLIT is an authority list of catholic authors (persons or corporate bodies) and of liturgical and religious anonymus works. ACOLIT formulates catalogue entries on the basis of RICA, but also takes into account the Norme per il catalogo degli stampati of the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, the AACR2R, the Regeln für die alphabetische Katalogisierung (RAK), the Reglas de catalogación, and the recommendations of IFLA. Three volumes have already been published: Bible, Catholic Church, Roman Curia, Papal State, Vatican, Popes and Antipopes (1997); Catholic religious orders (2000); Liturgical works (2003). The fourth volume is devoted to Fathers of the Church and to Western ecclesiastical Writers (II-XIII centuries). Our point of departure for this authority list are the indices in Migne Patrologia Latina, compared with indices of other authoritatives directories paper and on line (p.e., Personennamen des Mittelalters, Bibliotheca sanctorum, BISLAM: Bibliotheca scriptorum Latinorum medii recentiorisque aevi, Dictionnaire d’histoire et de géographie ecclésiastiques, VIAF). The principal lemma is the Italian form according to the language of the catalogue. The principal entry is followed by variants. For the realization of this authority list we, the editors, had to expend considerable energy in the effort to establish homogeneous forms using bibliographical sources and directories: we realize we may not have always succeeded and would be happy to receive suggestion or further information
