    reservedL'elaborato tratta di Elisa Chimenti: una scrittrice di origini italiane che visse la maggior parte della sua esistenza in Marocco. Dopo aver analizzato la sua vita, le opere e i temi principali che tratta , ci si focalizzerà sulla nozione di plurilinguismo (in quanto l'autrice scrive sì in francese, ma aggiungendoci parole espressioni in spagnolo, in berbero e, sorpattutto, in darija, ossia l'arabo marocchino) e sulla problematica della traduzione dei testi chimentiani in lingua italiana. Verranno, per questo motivo, tradotti cinque testi tratti dalla raccolta «Èves Marocaines » e analizzate le diverse scelte effettuate dal sottoscritto.The degree thesis focuses on Elisa Chimenti: a writer of Italian origin who lived most of her life in Morocco. After analysing her life, her works and the main themes she deals with, we will focus on the notion of multilingualism (as the author writes in French, but adds expressions in Spanish, Berber and, above all, in Darija, i.e. Moroccan Arabic) and on the problem of translating Chimenti's texts into Italian. For this reason, five texts from the collection 'Èves Marocaines' will be translated and the different choices made by the undersigned will be analysed

    International audienceThe author attempts to explore some secrets linked to creation in Elisa Chimenti’s work, from the point of view of its contents – magical and religiousrituals – and its expression. In her many tales, particularly, these secrets are related to the hostility between genders and especially to the magic and spells the women resort to so as to protect themselves against their enemies. But the secret which is the most difficult to discover relates to Elisa Chimenti’s writing, to the thousands of unpublished pages, testifying to a vast encyclopaedic knowledge which remains to be discovered.L’auteure essaie d’explorer quelques secrets de la création dans l’oeuvre d’Elisa Chimenti, sur le plan du contenu (rituels magiques et religieux) et de l’expression. En particulier dans ses innombrables contes, ces secrets sont liés à la relation d’hostilité entre les sexes, et notamment aux pratiques magiques, aux sortilèges, auxquels les femmes ont recours pour se défendre de leurs ennemis. Mais le secret plus difficile à pénétrer est celui de l’écriture même d’Elisa Chimenti, de ses milliers de pages inédites, monument d’un savoir encyclopédique qui reste encore à découvrir.A autora procura explorar alguns segredos da criação na obra de Elisa Chimenti, situados tanto num plano semântico (rituais mágicos e religiosos) como da expressão. Nos seus inúmeros contos principalmente, estes segredos traduzem uma relação de hostilidade entre os sexos, nomeadamente através das práticas mágicas, dos sortilégios aos quais as mulheres recorrem para se defenderem contra os seus inimigos. Contudo, o segredo mais difícil de perscrutar será, porventura, o da própria escrita de Elisa Chimenti que representa, com milhares de páginas ainda inéditas, um autêntico monumento consagrado ao saber enciclopédico ainda por descobrir

    Array‐Based Acoustic Leak Location in Spacecraft Structures

    An array‐based leak location sensor is being developed for spacecraft application which uses spatial Fourier transformation of plate wave signals to robustly determine leak location, independent of the effects of dispersive multiple mode signal transport. The underlying principle of operation is outlined. The performance of a prototype array sensor on structural skin containing integrally machined stiffeners is demonstrated. A significant frequency dependence of transmission efficiency on stiffener geometry is observed, indicating the importance of pass‐band optimization.This proceeding may be downloaded for personal use only.     A Spherically Focused Capacitive‐Film Air‐Coupled Transducer

    We have developed, fabricated, and tested spherically focused capacitive‐film air‐coupled ultrasonic transducers, which need no mirror, zone plate, or similar external device. To achieve native focusing, we have employed a flexible copper/polyimide backplate that permits a conformal fit to a spherical fixture whose radius determines the focal length. The backplate is patterned with 40 μm depressions having 80 μm spacings. A spherically deformed 6 μm aluminized Mylar film, conforms to the spherical backplate, completing the transducer. Two transducers have been tested, one having a 1 cm diameter and 2.54 cm focus, and another with a 5 cm diameter and 5.1 cm focus. Both transducers have frequency spectra centered at 805 kHz with — 6dB points at 440 and 1210 kHz. In the focal plane, the beam diameter is 2.7 mm (1 cm transducer) and 1.32 mm (5 cm transducer), when excited with a broadband signal. The focal zone extends from 17 to 34 mm (1 cm transducer) and from 46 to 57 mm (5‐cm transducer). Both transducers’ diffraction behaviors have been successfully modeled as focused piston radiators.This proceeding may be downloaded for personal use only.     “Beyond the lingua franca”. Elisa Chimenti’s mediterranean multilinguism (Naples 1883-Tangier 1969)

    Il presente articolo intende riflettere sulla declinazione del concetto di lingua franca mediterranea nell’opera di Elisa Chimenti, a partire dal caso di studio del racconto inedito Khadija de l’île sarde. Scrittrice, giornalista, insegnante ed antropologa, Chimenti ha viaggiato dall’Italia alla Tunisia al Marocco, per scegliere Tangeri come terra d’asilo/esilio. L’articolo affronterà prima la biografia e l’opera dell’autrice, per poi riflettere su come nella sua scrittura si riecheggi – non senza importanti differenze – il “pidgin franco” in uso nei porti del mar Mediterraneo tra il XVI ed il XIX secolo. Mescolando il francese con il napoletano, l’italiano, il tedesco, lo spagnolo, l’arabo, l’autrice costruisce una lingua profondamente ibridata e prismatica, nella quale confluiscono insieme alle forme espressive anche i diversi modi di dire, le tradizioni e le culture mediterranee, di cui Chimenti coglie tutte le affinità, i rimandi e le genealogie incrociate.This article aims to investigate the interaction between the topic of Mediterranean lingua franca and the work of Elisa Chimenti, considering the case study of the unpublished novel Khadija de l’île sarde. Writer, journalist, teacher and anthropologist, Chimenti travelled from Italy to Tunisia and ending in Morocco, where she finally chooses Tangier as her self-exile land. The article will first address the biography and the work of the author, and then it will analyse the way her writing recall - with significant differences - the “pidgin franco” that was common in the Mediterranean harbours between the XVI and the XIX century. Chimenti’s multi-linguistic style entangles the French language with Neapolitan, Italian, Deutsch, Spanish and Arabic, therefore establishing a language that is profoundly hybrid and prismatic: it is a mélange of figures of speech, Mediterranean traditions and cultures, where all the connections, references and mutual genealogies are finely crafted together

    Fractal Dimension Analysis for Robust Ultrasonic Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) of Coarse Grained Materials

    Over the recent decades, there has been a growing demand on reliable and robust non-destructive evaluation (NDE) of structures and components made from coarse grained materials such as alloys, stainless steels, carbon-reinforced composites and concrete; however, when inspected using ultrasound, the flaw echoes are usually contaminated by high-level, time-invariant, and correlated grain noise originating from the microstructure and grain boundaries, leading to pretty low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and the flaw information being obscured or completely hidden by the grain noise. In this paper, the fractal dimension analysis of the A-scan echoes is investigated as a measure of complexity of the time series to distinguish the echoes originating from the real defects and the grain noise, and then the normalized fractal dimension coefficients are applied to the amplitudes as the weighting factor to enhance the SNR and defect detection. Experiments on industrial samples of the mild steel and the stainless steel are conducted and the results confirm the great benefits of the method

    International audienceThis paper presents two digitisation workflows and a new model proposition for the digital processing of unpublished texts by Elisa Chimenti (1883-1969). The author's corpus is extremely varied and interesting both from the point of view of academic research and for the wider public. The experiments therefore move in the area of open access digital scholarly edition. The aim is to compare the different text processing chains, in order to reflect on the pros and cons of each. Further, the new proposition aims to build a model for the digitisation of this corpus, also focusing on ethical and ecological issues that contemporary society confronts us with. The purpose is to contribute to the ongoing project of organising, preserving, and digitising the heritage of Elisa Chimenti, an extraordinary as well as forgotten author

    Leak location in spacecraft skin with ultrasonic arrays

    An array‐based leak location sensor has been developed and improved for application onboard spacecraft. Introduction of a diced piezoelectric element has permitted the successful utilization of lower frequency bands to perform the location. With this new device location across five integral stiffeners has been demonstrated, despite the stiffeners' strong frequency‐dependent scattering. Spatial Fourier transforms of plate wave signals determine leak location independent of the effects of dispersive multiple mode signal transport. The performance of the diced‐element array sensor on a 2×2‐m integrally stiffened aluminum plate is demonstrated.This proceeding may be downloaded for personal use only.
