Get PDFThe following text is an unpublished interview with Fernando Távora carried out in 1988 for Edifícios, the project of a magazine of systems, urbanism, and architecture, outlined by Eduardo Oliveira Fernandes, Alexandre Aves Costa, Manuel Mendes, and accompanied by Luís Marques, then a member of the staff of the Entity that held the title. The project was suspended by the decision of that Entity at the time of the development of Issue 1. At that time, the interview with Fernando Távora by Javier Frechilla, published in Arquitectura (COAM’s magazine, no. 261, July-August 1986), was very much present. At the time of the interview for Edifícios, Fernando Távora’s health problems, together with the inexperience of the interviewer, hindered the fluency of the discourse and the clarity of the exposition of the topics under discussion, thus diverting and suspending the ordinary course of the interview. Get PDFAtendendo a que o Alto Douro Vinhateiro paisagem cultural evolutiva e viva de valor universal foi fonte inspiradora de representantes das artes e letras, revelando a inter-relação cultura e natureza, revisita-se, na fronteira entre literatura e história, esta região em seus espaços-tempos, objecto de invenção e originalidade criativa.
Dada a relevância da literatura como depositária das memórias socioculturais do «ser histórico», analisam-se, nas obras de Raul Brandão e Manuel Mendes, representações da paisagem física e humana duriense (século XX), imagem tradicional de modernidade emergente.
O corpus de análise documental, literária e dialógica abarca obras emblemáticas do património literário duriense: Portugal Pequenino, de Maria Angelina Brandão e Raul Brandão, e Douro, Roteiro Sentimental, de Manuel Mendes.
Estes testemunhos históricos e evocações literárias configuram-se como «marca de água» do Douro Património Mundial, garantia da identidade e autenticidade da paisagem física e humana, cujos rastros de «bem comum» preservam e transmitem aos «filhos dos outros».Considering that the Alto Douro Wine Region, an evolving and living cultural landscape of universal value, has been an inspiring source for representatives of the arts and literature, revealing the interrelation between culture and nature, we revisit, on the border between literature and history,
this region in its space-time, object of invention and creative originality.
Given the relevance of literature as a depository of socio-cultural memories of the «historical being», the works of Raul Brandão and Manuel Mendes analyse the representations of the Douro physical and human landscape (20th century), a traditional image of emerging modernity.
The corpus of documentary, literary and dialogical analysis includes emblematic works of Douro literary heritage: Portugal Pequenino, by Maria Angelina Brandão and Raul Brandão, and Douro, Roteiro Sentimental, by Manuel Mendes.
These historical testimonies and literary evocations are configured as a «watermark» of the Douro World Heritage, guarantee of the identity and authenticity of the physical and human landscape, whose traces of «common good», preserve and transmit to the «children of others
