The lament of Theseus : a reading of the heroid "Theseo a Ariadna" by Manuel Inacio da Silva Alvarenga
Desta maneira, o texto fica um pouco menos distante, desfazendo-se certo véu de anacronismo que poderia ocultar-lhe as qualidades intrínsecasAbstract: The present work tries, trough a detailed analysis of the heroid "Theseo a Ariadna", published by Manuel Inacio da Silva Alvarenga in 1774, find the possible readings of the author's own time. Being this the less mentioned and studied of Alvarenga's poems, it is important to reconstruct the intellectual relations, the emulated models and the references worked by the author. For this, the work follows the history of the gender, since it's invention by Ovid, in the first Century b. C. till it's revival by the gallant French poets of the Eighteenth Century; it studies also the formal models employed by Silva Alvarenga, namely that of the Dante's terza rima,; and it combs the fortune of the myth and it's transformations, both in Europe and in Portugal. As this work's result, the poem becomes less distant, preventing the anachronistic readings in order to show its intrinsic qualitiesMestradoHistoria e Historiografia LiterariaMestre em Teoria e História Literári
A simulation study for future satellite gravimetry missions
The Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE), launched in 2002, was the first low-low satellite-to-satellite tracking (ll-SST) satellite gravity mission. One of its primary objectives was to monitor the redistribution of mass in the Earth's system, which is of vital importance not only to the scientific community, but also to society in general. GRACE allowed for the mass redistribution monitoring at much smaller spatial scales than ever before. The data collected by the mission lead to a proliferation of researches in many scientific domains. The GRACE mission, completed in 2017, was considered as an outstanding success. Consequently, the GRACE Follow-On (GFO) mission was launched in 2018 to continue its legacy. With the GFO mission underway, it is now timely to look into the future of satellite gravimetry. The major goal of this thesis was to design and benchmark a set of ll-SST mission concepts with the potential to deliver unprecedented accuracy of mass redistribution estimates. The approach taken was to develop a simulation tool capable of handling arbitrarily complex satellite mission designs. In the first instance, this tool was used to analyze the error budget of the GRACE mission. A combination of simulated errors from various sources showed a very good agreement with observed noise in the GRACE inter-satellite acceleration data. Noise in the frequency range between 1 and 9 mHz, the origin of which was previously unknown, was explained by a combination of positioning, acceleration and ranging errors and errors in the atmosphere and ocean de-aliasing model. A good agreement between simulated and actually observed noise was only possible by properly accounting for the propagation of errors through the computed reference orbits. I called this error propagation mechanism the indirect effect. I formally defined the indirect effect and demonstrated that it propagates differently in different types of ll-SST missions. Next, the error budget of future missions which replicate GRACE was simulated. I confirmed that temporal aliasing errors are the ones that limit the performance of these missions. A better instrumentation will not improve the performance of those missions in any significant way. New mission concepts are required in order to surpass the performance level of the current ones. Afterwards the tool was used to run small-scale simulations in order to gain insight into the mission design aspects which determine the performance of the mission. Small-scale simulations consider relatively short timespans (between 2 and 5 days) and the obtained solutions are typically computed up to a relatively low maximum SH degree (normally between 40 and 60). Using small-scale simulations, I could identify mission design aspects which impact the temporal and spatial resolution of ll-SST missions. Considering different gravity gradient directions as observables, I have shown that collecting multiple observables from a single formation greatly increases the spatial resolution of the mission compared to the single-observable case. This discovery begs the consideration of formations consisting of more than two satellites in order to maximize the spatial resolution. I have also considered missions consisting of multiple formations. For these, I have shown that temporal aliasing errors can be minimized by orienting the polar orbital planes of the satellite formations such that they equipartition 3-D space. Specifically, for two-formation missions, the orbital planes should be perpendicular, while for three-formation missions they should be set 60° apart. On the basis of the small-scale simulations, I have proposed a set of satellite missions, which were benchmarked with full-scale simulations. The missions were designed to combine multiple observables in a single or multiple formations. In the latter case, their orbital planes were correctly oriented in order to minimize temporal aliasing errors. Of the proposed concepts, missions which considered along-track/pendulum (which I called gamma) and along-track/cartwheel (which I called sigma) combinations were found to yield the lowest total errors. Of those, I selected the single-formation along-track/pendulum combination (gamma) mission as the most promising for future ll-SST mission. I have shown that this concept yields large improvements in terms of spatial and temporal resolutions. At the same time, the gamma mission avoids the complexities of the cartwheel pair of satellites and, given that it considers a single satellite formation, it is potentially cheaper and less complex than the other alternatives which considered two. The gamma mission shows substantially lower errors compared to existing ll-SST missions, which may be further reduced when used as the basis for a multi-formation constellation of satellites.Physical and Space Geodes
Analysis of star camera errors in GRACE data and their impact on monthly gravity field models
Star cameras (SCs) on board the GRACE satellites provide information about the attitudes of the spacecrafts. This information is needed to reduce the K-band ranging data to the centre of mass of the satellites. In this paper, we analyse GRACE SC errors using two months of real data of the primary and secondary SCs. We show that the errors consist of a harmonic component, which is highly correlated with the satellite’s true anomaly, and a stochastic component. We built models of both error components, and use these models for error propagation studies. Firstly, we analyse the propagation of SC errors into inter-satellite accelerations. A spectral analysis reveals that the stochastic component exceeds the harmonic component, except in the 3–10 mHz frequency band. In this band, which contains most of the geophysically relevant signal, the harmonic error component is larger than the random component. Secondly, we propagate SC errors into optimally filtered monthly mass anomaly maps and compare them with the total error. We found that SC errors account for about 18 % of the total error. Moreover, gaps in the SC data series amplify the effect of SC errors by a factor of 5 . Finally, an analysis of inter-satellite pointing angles for GRACE data between 2003 and 2010 reveals that inter-satellite ranging errors were exceptionally large during the period February 2003 till May 2003. During these months, SC noise is amplified by a factor of 3 and is a considerable source of errors in monthly GRACE mass anomaly maps. In the context of future satellite gravity missions, the noise models developed in this paper may be valuable for mission performance studies.Geoscience & Remote SensingCivil Engineering and Geoscience

The narrator and the growth memories: when students from the 9th Year of Elementary Education become protagonists of their own stories
This dissertation has the aim of investigating how the work with personal written reports, motivated by literary reading, can enhance the development of students\' writing skills in the 9th Year of Elementary Education. Moreover, it can also expose the humanizing function that literary reading and writing can have in the school. It is presented some of the paths taken by students in the process of recognition of elements that strengthen identity construction and reaffirm their social existence. For this purpose, the book Os da minha rua, by the Angolan writer Ondjaki, was read. The short stories, although portraying a different sociocultural sphere than the one lived by the students, can allow the establishment of possible convergences through language and experiences lived by the characters. The methodological actions that enable this study are presented in a Didactic Sequence divided into five parts. The first three parts consider the methods for presentation of literary texts to the students; the production of memory reports, motivated by literary reading, and the conduction of interviews with other students and families of the students. The last two parts are related to the steps of data analysis, considering data obtained through interviews and application of interaction proposals, and the processes regarding the exhibition of students\' written productions. The result of this investigation presents two complementary aspects: the first aspect is regarding the effective recognition of the author function, and the promotion of the student-narrator role, through writing about themselves in memory reports and sharing personal stories. The second aspect is related to the understanding that activities which promote literary reading can facilitate the development of affective aspects and the humanization in school relations
Through a comparative-contrastive reading of the medieval Galician-Portuguese lyric tradition and of the poetry of Trovas de muito amorpara um amado senhor, volume published by the Brazilian writer Hilda Hilst (1930- 2004) in 1960, this work proposes a reading of the ways through which this tradition constitutes itself in a strategy privileged by the author for the elaboration of a poetic subjectivity that can only affirm and fully constitute itself in the presence of The Other. In that sense, the poetic writing would define itself as a ceaseless movement in search of an absent lover, whose condition would allow to approximate it to the notion of the absolutely Other, postulated by the philosopher Emmanuel Lévinas. Thus, as a desiring impulse inevitably condemned to frustration, the poemwould unfold on itself, a movement from which a lyric of love for the poetic text itself would resul
STUDY OF IONOSPHERIC IONIZATION USING EXTREMELY LOW FREQUENCY (ELF) MEASURES IN SÃO JOSÉ DOS CAMPOS, BRAZIL REGION
<p>In a recent theoretical article, the author described a possible process of generating electromagnetic waves in the range of (1-12) Hz caused by diamagnetic currents originated by heat in ionosphere through high frequency waves (HF). The origin of the HF waves that reach the ionosphere can be sent from the Earth’s surface or even directly solar phenomena. Through a SpectranNF-5035 detector, developed by German Aaronia with high sensitivity (1 nV) nanoVolt in a range of (1-12) Hz and low sampling time (5 ms), with specific external ELF antennae was possible to measure these waves and detect Schumann resonances peaks. During the months of July and August of 2016very dry and away from electrical discharges in the region of São José dos Campos, SP, Brazil were made several series of measurements to detect these waves and also Schumann resonance’s in 1 to40 Hz.During January 2016to October 2018, with very wet and dryer period in the region, these measurements it was made. The positive results of these experimental observations as well as discussions and suggestions are presented in this paper.</p>
For this, we take into consideration the recurrence of the metaphor of the margin in the author's poetry, an image-synthesis of this tension. Considering that, his poetics oscillates between the deepest awareness of existential emptiness and the affirmation of joy as a necessary condition to exist in the world, the margin is, in this discussion, a key imagetic element for us to understand certain positions of the author both in his critical and essayistic work, as in poetry, productions that, seen together, make the totality of this work a poetics of the margin. Our reading proposal is guided by the theoretical vision of a group of thinkers, such as Sigmund Freud, Walter Benjamin e Eduardo Lourenço, beside Jean Starobinski and Giorgio Agamben, about melancholy, and, to reflect on the topic of joy, we approached the ethical postulates of Spinoza, with references to other thinkers also dedicated to the theme as Clément Rosset114f
Para compor o referencial teórico da pesquisa, destacam-se Gerard Genette (2009) e Marie-Hélène Torres (2011).Abstract : The purpose of this research is to analyze the Brazilian translations of Pinocchio in the 21st century, published between 2002 and 2015. The narrative, composed by the Italian writer and journalist Carlo Collodi (1826-1890), that had been published as a book for the first time in 1883, in Florence, had its first translations in Brazil around 1910-1911, and totaled many until the 1950s, however, have become scarcer in the last decades of the 20th century. A contrast to this situation, the new century brings a considerable amount of new translations of the book, a fact that aroused the interest of current research, which focuses on the analysis of translations for their paratexts, intending to see what these elements say on Pinocchio, in that period in which its translations are frequent in the Brazilian publishing market. The work is divided into three chapters: the first deals with aspects related to Pinocchio and its author, in its context of origin, beginning of its expansion outside Italy; the second is a history of translations of the narrative in Brazil in the 20th century, and finally, the third presents the paratextual analyzes of the translations of the 21st century. To compose the theoretical reference of the research, we highlight Gerard Genette (2009) and Marie-Hélène Torres (2011)
Petrópolis to Pasárgada : the songbook of Guerra-Peixe : constextualization, creative process and analysis
The work of César Guerra-Peixe fulfilled a remarkable trajectory within the history of Brazilian contemporary music. Born in the light of a varied musical education, that included the deep contact with folk festivals, his work first courted dodecaphonism, then refuted it, and ended up delivering himself to one of the most serious and profound researches about Brazilian roots in music in his time. The aim of this work is to list, digitize, review, analyze and establish a proposal of interpretation for all the chamber songs listed by Guerra-Peixe himself in his "List of Singing pieces". Two cycles of songs, Drummondiana and Sumidouro will not be approached in this work, as they were examined in our Master's Degree Thesis (1997). By trailing Guerra-Peixe's production using as departure point the intellectual trajectory carefully annotated by the composer, our intention was to follow his creative process and see how it impacted one possible interpretation of his vocal work. Among the observed elements, we especially considered the cultural influences Guerra-Peixe suffered, marked, at first, by the personality of Hans Joachim Kollreutter and, later, by the experiences and researches conducted in Pernambuco and São Paulo. Throughout our research saw, however, that the influence of personal relationships was essential to the construction of his vocal work, especially in his third and final compositional phase. From the reading of his correspondence with the researchers Mozart de Araújo and Curt Lange, and a series of interviews with people who knew the author, and in particular with the singer Maria da Gloria Capanema, we could establish the thesis that the vocal work of Guerra-Peixe was primarily based on direct or indirect influence of his professional or personal relationshipsDoutoradoPraticas InterpretativasDoutor em Músic
