"The Slave Girl Gives Birth to Her Master": Female Slavery from the Mamluk Era (1250-1517) to the Islamic State (2014-)

    No full text
This paper analyzes how the Islamic State (IS or ISIS) appropriates Islamic tradition to justify sexual slavery, most notably the eschatological prophetic report "the slave girl will give birth to her master." Contrary to the public discourse that constantly emphasizes the "medieval" nature of ISIS, I demonstrate that the movement has developed a modern interpretation of the tradition. The medieval Muslim scholars that the ISIS author quotes argue that the report should be read broadly and not be used in legal discussions or to expand slavery. In contrast, the ISIS author contends that the saying should be interpreted to mean the revival of slavery and justifies taking Yazidi women as sex slaves. The ISIS author thus presents a new understanding of the report, one that is unique within the history of Islam.Andrew W. Discrete Consciousness as a Paradox: A Thought Experiment in Fiction and Philosophy

This preprint introduces a paradox in the study of discrete consciousness: if consciousness arises from matter, why is “my” consciousness bound to this specific body rather than another? The document references a fictional dialogue between a talking dog and Richard Dawkins at Hammersmith Station, highlighting the limits of both materialist and metaphysical explanations. Serving as a timestamp, it invites open-minded inquiry into the “Harder Problem” of consciousness assignment. Bu bilgiler ışığında Mirza Athar Beg'in Sıfır Se Ey Tak eserinde postmodern anlatının özellikleri açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır.The 1960s to the present are referred to as postmodernism. The cold war and its aftermath, the growing embrace of multiculturalism or ethnic diversity and the development of technology, particularly television and computers, are notable examples of postmodernism. These incidents, which had a significant impact on society, were also mirrored in literature. One of the postmodern writers in Urdu literature, Mirza Athar Beg, employs metafiction, intertextuality, parody, pastiche and irony in his works. By the use of language games, the author has incorporated his book Sıfır Se Eyk Tak into postmodern novel aesthetics. In the book, Athar Beg uses a non-chronological, fragmented narrative style to play with the reader's perception. The purpose of this study is to ascertain how postmodernism has affected the chosen work by Mirza Athar Beg. Theoretical knowledge regarding the idea of postmodernism has been made available in the study. The Characteristics of postmodern literature were then thoroughly investigated. The characteristics of postmodern expression in Mirza Athar Beg's Sıfır Se Eyk Tak have been attempted to be explained in light of this information

Ghulam Bagh is an important novel created in the Post-Colonial period in which Mirza Athar Baig has presented the intellectual and mental attitudes of this era.We can say that Post-Colonial literature refers to the literary texts that are created in the former colonies of Europe.  In these writings, the background of Post-Colonialism and the background of Colonialism are presented in a literary Perspective.  Post-Colonial literature shows an attempt to understand, examine and describe the feelings and experiences of those belonging to the former colonies.  Mirza Athar Baig\u27s novel Ghulam Bagh was published in 2006 and six editions have been published so far.  Ghulam Bagh is a masterpiece novel of fictional literature created in the former British colonial Pakistan, There are also characters living in the Post-Colonial era. Each character shows change, evolution and conflict. Ghulam Bagh is an imaginary place in terms of archeology.  If we examine the title of the novel in a broader context, Ghulam Bagh is a metaphor for the desire of western nations to dominate the inferior, weak and noble races of the world.  Is based on desire. In this paper, the novel will be studied in the Post-Colonial context to find out how far the author has succeeded in recovering the Colonial discourse. &nbsp

Narratives and Muslim Women’s Experiences in A Place for Us by Fatima Mirza

This research examines how the author presents the narrative structure of the novel A Place for Us and the depiction of feminist issues in the novel. The theories used by researchers are narrative theory and feminist theory. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method with the main data source from the novel A Place for Us by Fatima Mirza. The results of this analysis are that the narrative five patterns proposed by Todorov were found in Mirza’s A Place for Us. By blending the five patterns with multi-voice storytelling, the conflicts and women’s experiences in A Place for Us are vivid and touching. I argue that what was experienced by several female characters in the novel occurred because of the rules and norms the Indian Muslim patriarchal culture they adhered to. Mirza depicts feminist messages through the female and male character's roles. Women can break patriarchal norms by having confidence and extensive knowledge
