Multiple Tactics of Integrated Pest Management for Thrips on Strawberry Plantation
In management of thrips on strawberry, farmers usually use synthetic insecticides. Synthetic insecticide is not effective to control thrips and produce residual effect on crops. Insecticidal residue is dangerous for human, natural enemies and environment widely. Therefore, it is necessary to find an alternative thrips pest control on strawberries, through integrated pest manage-ment (IPM) implementation. Research was aimed to determine the effect of IPM technology for Thrips sp. on strawberry plantation. Research was conducted on strawberry plantation by comparing IPM and conventional plots, in Kusuma Agrowisata Batu from April to July 2009. Variables were used such as the number of larvae, adult population and damage intensity caused by Thrips sp., and fruit production. Data was analyzed by t-test on 5%. The results showed that the average larva and adult population of Thrips sp. on IPM plot were higher than conventional plot, 1.12 and 0.50 for larva and 0.87 and 0.27 for adults respectively. The damage intensity of strawberry crops on IPM plot was higher than conventional plot, 11.69 and 5.98% respectively. Based on average fruit production, IPM plot was higher than conventional plot, 48.32 g and 39.24 g respectively
The Influence of Trap and Refugia Plants on Populations and Attacks of Leaf-Miner Flies Liriomyza sp. on Shallots Cultivation
Leaf miners (Liriomyza sp.) are one of the pests affecting shallot plants. Attacks by Liriomyza sp. on shallot plants lead to tuber rot and leaves drying out, resembling burn damage. One control method is to utilize trap plants and refugia. Trap plants are specific species that attract pests, diverting them from the main crop. Refugia, on the other hand, are areas where pests can seek shelter, reducing their impact on the main crop. This study aimed to assess the impact of trap plants and refugia on the population and attacks of Liriomyza sp. in shallot crops. The research was conducted from June to September 2021 at the experimental field of the Faculty of Agriculture in Jatimulyo Village, Lowokwaru District, Malang City, East Java. Observation parameters included the population of Liriomyza sp., damage intensity, population of natural enemies, plant height, and number of leaves. The results indicated that different types of trap plants significantly influenced the population of Liriomyza sp. and damage intensity compared to the control treatment. However, different trap plant types did not significantly affect the population of natural enemies. The natural enemies identified included Vespidae, Coenosia sp., and Opius sp. Additionally, various trap plant types did not significantly impact plant height and the number of leaves
The Effect of Citrus Farming Practices on Huanglongbing (HLB) Disease Severity in Sambas, West Kalimantan

However, the effect of citrus farming practices on the development of huanglongbing (HLB) disease and its vector insect, namely Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) Diaphorina citri is not widely known. This research studied the effect of citrus farming practices on HLB disease severity through a two-week short survey at 37 citrus groves in Sambas Regency. Observation parameters were HLB disease severity, the abundance of ACP, and the applied farming practices. The effect of farming practices on HLB disease severity was analyzed through structural equation modeling based on partial least squares (SEM-PLS). The results showed that the level of pesticide application, quality of drainage ditches, and density of citrus plants had a positive effect on HLB disease severity, while the level of vegetation diversity and level of application of chemical fertilizers had a negative effect on HLB disease severity. Weed control, soil quality, and pruning did not affect HLB disease severity. Therefore, citrus planting should apply a polyculture system, using various varieties, and the spacing is not too tight. The provision of nutrients that can increase citrus resistance to ACP infestation should be increased. Plant pest and disease control are suggested carried out in an integrated manner so that insecticides are only used when the pest population reaches an economic threshold.

Fluctuation Patterns Spodoptera frugiperda and Its Natural Enemies on Maize Plants With IPM and Conventional Practice in Malang Regency
Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is a pest that originated in the United States and then migrated to Indonesia. This pest reportedly attacked corn in West Pasaman, West Sumatra Province, in 2019. This study aimed to determine the effect of cultivation practice on fluctuations in natural enemies and S. frugiperda. The research was conducted in Pandan Rejo Village, Pagak, Malang Regency. Data from observations of pest populations' natural enemies were then analyzed using simple quantitative analysis. The population and intensity of Spodoptera frugiperda attacks on IPM practices were always lower than those on conventional practices. During observation, there were 2 species of natural enemies, Braconidae and Scelionidae. The parasitoid population in IPM is always higher than in conventional practice. The lower parasitoid population at conventional practice failed to suppress the S. frugiperda population. Farming business analysis calculated using the R/C ratio showed that IPM practice had a value of 1.03 while conventional was only 0.55. IPM practice is feasible and more ecologically friendly than conventional practice
Population of Thrips sp. on the Integrated Pest Management and Conventional farming on Chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) at Bayem Village, Sub-District Kasembon, Malang
This research aimed to find out an abundance of Thrips sp. population on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and conventional farming at chilli plantation. The research was conducted on August until November 2012 at the Bayem Village, Sub-distric Kasembon, Malang, East Java and Entomology Laboratory, Departement of Plant Protection, Agriculture Faculty, Brawijaya University. The methods to determine abundance population Thrips sp. was using quadrant with 4 plants samples in 1 beds were taken.
