Evaluating lifestyle branding as a long-term brand strategy: effects on perceived value attributions
The paper discusses lifestyle branding vis-à-vis product branding considering the underlying psychological structure beneath the two positioning strategies. The findings suggest that lifestyle positioning hinders development of cognitively accessible reasons to buy undermining the perceived value of the product. While lifestyle branding remains appealing as brand strategy, this paper investigates some critical aspects related to it, disclosing possible caveats related to the tactical implementation which managers may find useful to consider
Can your advertisement go abstract without affecting willingness to pay? Product-centered versus lifestyle content in luxury brand print advertisements
Advertising can focus on concrete product attributes or on lifestyle expressions and abstract
benefits. In the context of print advertising, the authors explore the relationship among
advertising style (product-based versus lifestyle-building), advertising language (abstract
versus concrete), and consumers’ willingness to pay through the lens of construal level
theory, providing insights for understanding and using the two strategies. The study found
that lifestyle branding was related to high language abstractness; product-based branding
was related to language concreteness; and construal level was a mediator, enhancing
willingness to pay when low. The use of abstract language and lifestyle-based advertising
therefore requires careful consideration.Advertising can focus on concrete product attributes or on lifestyle expressions and abstract benefits. LOW-TEMPERATURE BEHAVIOR OF ION-BEAM-GROWN POLYMER METAL COMPOSITE THIN-FILMS
Polymer-metal granular thin films were grown by simultaneous ion beam sputtering from a composite target. Morphological analysis performed by transmission electron microscopy shows their granular fine structure. The samples' ageing process was monitored over an interval of many hours after the film deposition. A detailed study of the resistance vs. temperature behaviour was performed over the range 12-300 K; current-voltage measurements as a function of temperature are also reported. An unusual ln(R) proportional T-1 dependence was found at low temperature. This behaviour is explained with theoretical arguments based on percolation theory
Arrangement of products on display and perception of numerosity. Some results from an exploratory study. What relationship is there between the arrangement of products on shelves and the perception of their numerosity? 137 students were recruited for a lab experiment that involved the presentation of three pictures randomly drawn from a database. Each picture portrayed an incomplete display with the same amount of items. All the drawn sets were built so that they could represent three different types of product distribution on display: random distribution, two cluster distribution and three cluster distribution. The participants were asked to rank, in free-viewing conditions, the pictures of the set, on the basis of the believed increasing amount of items present on the compared displays. The statistical tests emphasise a tendency of the participants to judge as less numerous the products when arranged in clusters rather than randomly. Moreover, the perceived numerosity seemed to reduce as the number of clusters increases. The obtained results are consistent with some theories, e.g. Gestalt theory. Such illusion of numerosity, due to the arrangement of products on shelves, presents some managerial implications in terms of merchandising and category management
Social desirability in virtual communities
As virtual worlds and social media in general become important settings for marketing actions, we need to know what
is the weight of social norms within such contexts. To what degree can a researcher expect that the answers obtained
within a virtual world – ultimately a social network – reflect real opinions and are not inflated by social desirability?
Does the social context of an online community induce higher social desirability? This paper investigates whether
social desirability is stronger within virtual world online communities than in the real world, observing same structural
relationship among measured constructs but higher social desirability tendency in the virtual world compared to the
real life. Since social networks and online communities will be more often used as research and communication
platforms, increased attention needs to be paid to the social desirability tendency of the community members
referenze a confronto.
collocato in senso perpendicolare. Risultati analoghi sono stati ottenuti in un secondo e terzo esperimento, rispettivamente, con insiemi di prodotti da otto facing (89,58% su 336 trial;
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
