Lipset and Rokkan meet data: the electoral structuring of traditional cleavages, 1870–1967
Full text linkThe unprecedented, historically-grounded data availability that researchers enjoy today allows them to move beyond mere anecdotal evidence and properly test, through quantitative data, Lipset and Rokkan’s conditions for cleavage electoral structuring and their ‘freezing hypothesis’. In this article, Lipset and Rokkan’s conditions are translated into empirically testable hypotheses related to the evolution and determinants of cleavage electoral structuring. The empirical analysis – applied to 17 Western European countries from the late nineteenth century to 1967 – shows that the freezing hypothesis shall be reconsidered, as inconclusive evidence is found about the stabilisation of the four cleavages between the 1920s and the 1960s. Moreover, only some of the expectations deriving from Lipset and Rokkan’s original conditions are confirmed, while others are rejected. Finally, the analysis unveils the role played by some factors that have been previously overlooked, thus contributing to redefining the narrative of cleavages’ electoral structuring

No full textIl saggio analizza il meccanismo della rotazione degli incarichi nella pubblica amministrazione quale strumento di prevenzione della corruzione, distinguendo tra rotazione ordinaria e straordinaria. La prima è esaminata nei suoi presupposti, limiti applicativi e nella necessità di una disciplina flessibile, capace di bilanciare prevenzione e buon andamento amministrativo. Ampio spazio è dedicato al ruolo della programmazione, alla valutazione delle competenze e alle misure alternative alla rotazione. La rotazione straordinaria è invece approfondita nei suoi profili critici, soprattutto in relazione al momento del procedimento penale rilevante e all’individuazione delle condotte corruttive. Emergono incertezze interpretative e applicative, accentuate dalle oscillazioni dell’Anac. In conclusione, si sottolinea che la rotazione incide profondamente sull’assetto organizzativo e sul benessere lavorativo, imponendo una più chiara definizione delle responsabilità interne

No full textLuxury consumers are becoming more and more sensitive to sustainable development issues, and thus they increasingly care about how to spend their money to improve the lives of present and future generations. However, making responsible choices has long proved challenging for luxury brands, since many customers have long used to think that a product’s sustainability comes at the expense of its quality. Recently, however, literature about sustainable consumption has evolved towards a more positive view of sustainable luxury, whereby luxury goods have some intrinsic elements, such as their higher durability based on higher quality of material and production processes, which make them inherently sustainable and long-lasting. While concurring with the idea that durability stems from tangible elements such as product high quality, we argue that how long consumers use a luxury product for can also depend on hedonic element of luxury goods, such the aesthetic experience of customers with luxury goods. Therefore, this chapter aims to review extant literature about sustainable luxury consumption also adding specific insights on how consumers experience luxury aesthetics, thus highlighting the aesthetics dimensions which are more relevant in shaping sustainable behaviors
