This research, when select Galiléia (2008), by Ronaldo Correia de Brito, was aimed to main study the biblical parody employed by the author in the aesthetic transfiguration of the interior reality. Thereby was could analyze that when author gives a new context to the Bible, the parody configures itself in this creative approach to the past text. Brito rewrites the biblical text with a new perspective on events. The intent of parody in Galiléia was not ridiculing the Bible, but use it as a model by which places the contemporary interior at focus. The analysis of the parody allowed the reflection and understanding to the writing. By appropriation textual, the novel of the Brito showed his self-consciousness ficcional and self-reflexivity. The argumentation of the parody was based on the presuppositions espoused by Linda Hutcheon that drafted its own theory that characterizes all modern art. They are also in agreement with the poetics of postmodernism of the Linda Hutcheon, complemented to the thinking of other theorists such as Fredric Jameson, Jean Francois Lyotard, Stuart Hall, and Roland Barthes, the analysis of the literary criticism of this study.

Analysis of causation of loss of communication with marine autonomous systems: a probability tree approach

    No full text
The last decade has seen the eagerly anticipated introduction of marine autonomous systems as a pragmatic tool for ocean observation. However, outstanding reliability problems means that these vehicles are not yet fulfilling their true potential. Of the classes of problems, loss of communication with a marine autonomous system is both fundamental and difficult to diagnose. In our view, this is due to two reasons: first in many cases users are not technologists and secondly if a vehicle is lost the task of diagnosing the root cause is subject to epistemic uncertainty that users are often reluctant to quantify in a formal manner. As a result users may accept the first hypothesis considered as the main root cause for loss of communication. We show that this approach can result in an increased unreliability of marine autonomous systems through failure to ascertain and then address the true root causes. Consequently, we propose a probability tree approach to help diagnose root cause(s) for loss of communication with a marine autonomous system (MAS). The model was developed based on the results of two detailed investigations and a body of failure data collected from 205 undersea glider operations

In this study, we evaluated the association between two steps in the conduct of an SR – restricting the search to English, and author contact for missing data – and the overall credibility of a SR.Methods: All SRs cited by the Endocrine Society's Clinical Practice Guidelines published from October 2006 through January 2012 were included. The main outcome was the overall A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR) score, as a surrogate of SR credibility. Nonparametric Kruskal–Wallis tests and multivariable linear regression models were used to investigate the association between language restriction, author contact for missing data, and the overall AMSTAR score. Results: In all, 69 SRs were included in the analysis. Only 31 SRs (45%) reported searching non-English literature, with an average AMSTAR score of 7.90 (standard deviation [SD] =1.64). SRs that reported language restriction received significantly lower AMSTAR scores (mean =5.25, SD =2.32) (P<0.001). Only 30 SRs (43%) reported contacting authors for missing data, and these received, on average, 2.59 more AMSTAR points (SD =1.95) than those who did not (P<0.001). In multivariable analyses, AMSTAR score was significantly correlated with language restriction (beta =-1.31, 95% confidence interval [CI]: -2.62, -0.01, P=0.05) and author contact for missing data (beta =2.16, 95% CI: 0.91, 3.41, P=0.001). However, after adjusting for compliance with reporting guidelines, language restriction was no longer significantly associated with the AMSTAR score. Conclusion: Fewer than half of the SRs conducted to support the clinical practice guidelines we examined reported contacting study authors or searched non–English literature. SRs that did not conduct these two steps had lower quality scores, suggesting the importance of these two steps for overall SR credibility. Keywords: evidence-based medicine, research design, validity, quality of evidenc

This article demonstrates that there are close genetic relations between the ms. O Primo Joao de Brito and the novel O Primo Basilio by Eca de Queiros; although much shorter than the novel, the ms. offers a plot and character development and a use of narrative technique which allow us to determine its genetic proximity to O Primo Basilio: we are thereby given insights into the workings of its author

This research part of this reflection: in which dimension consolidate the mystical of the Inner Land in the works of Ronaldo Correia de Brito? Noting at the outset that this issue is not mystical of The Inner Land, but the mystical of the Inner Land of Ronaldo Correia de Brito, and then founded on the question: could we find a mystical of the Inner Land in the works of the author on the study? Thus, we seek an investigation of this contemporary Inner Land, (re)interpreted here as the periphery of the globalized world. Emphasizing that the purpose of such movements is to investigate the Inner Land of Ronaldo Correia de Brito, mainly through metaphors found throughout the works of the author in focus, but obviously while evaluating the shades of tensions between traditional and globalized in view of the conflicts and confrontations that are present in the Inner Land to be explored.
