Num primeiro momento, apresenta-se a apreciação da obra simoniana por parte dos críticos e, num segundo momento, são apresentados os vinte e oito textos selecionados para a transcrição

No full textThis is a monographic study by the author on Prof. António Augusto da Costa Simões, who was a professor at the Faculty of Medicine and rector of the University of Coimbra. He was the richest and most prominent personality who, over the centuries, was born and lived in the municipality of Mealhada and one of the most resplendent, with national and international renown, to pass through the intellectual circles of the city of Coimbra, which, in addition to being the stage and creator of his education, was also the main beneficiary of all his work, scientific and academic activity.
This study, dedicated to the life and work of Costa Simões, is divided into six chapters: the first traces the family origins of Costa Simões and the descendants of his parents and siblings to the present day, given that the Master died unmarried and without children; in the second chapter, entitled ‘The academic, the researcher and the scientist’, the author deals with the entire evolution of Costa Simões' diverse and magnificent scientific activity, embodied in 56 published works, and the reason why he was considered, at the time, the first Portuguese histologist and physiologist and the true founder of the first experimental school in Portugal; in the third chapter, reference is made to one of the most relevant facets of Costa Simões' personality and work, that of ‘reformer’, from which the municipalities of Mealhada, Coimbra and Ansião were the main beneficiaries; the fourth chapter discusses Costa Simões' political activity, for which he did not show much appetite, but nevertheless served as mayor of Coimbra and member of the Portuguese Parliament, of which he was vice-president; the fifth chapter refers to his activity as rector of the University of Coimbra, from which he was removed for political reasons, resulting from the turmoil of the time between the Regenerators and Progressives of the Constitutional Monarchy, the latter being represented by Cons.PublishedTrata-se de um estudo monográfico do autor sobre o Prof. Doutor António Augusto da Costa Simões, que foi professor catedrático da Faculdade de Medicina e reitor da Universidade de Coimbra e a personalidade mais rica e de maior vulto que, ao longo dos séculos, nasceu e viveu no concelho da Mealhada e uma das mais resplandecentes, com projeção nacional e internacional, que passaram pela intelectualidade da cidade de Coimbra, que, além de ser palco e feitora da sua formação, foi também a principal beneficiária de toda a sua obra, atividade científica e académica. Este estudo, dedicado ao homem e à obra de Costa Simões, está dividido em seis capítulos: no primeiro, são traçadas as origens familiares de Costa Simões e a descendência de seus pais e irmãos até à atualidade, visto o Mestre ter falecido solteiro e sem filhos; no segundo capítulo, epigrafado “O académico, o investigador e o cientista”, trata o autor de toda a evolução da diversificada e magnificente atividade científica de Costa Simões, consubstanciada em 56 obras publicadas, e a razão porque foi considerado, na época, o primeiro histologista e fisiologista português e o verdadeiro fundador da primeira escola experimental em Portugal; no terceiro capítulo, é referenciada uma das mais relevantes facetas da personalidade e obra de Costa Simões, que é a de “reformador”, de que foram os principais beneficiados os concelhos de Mealhada, Coimbra e Ansião; no capítulo quarto, é exposta a atividade política de Costa Simões, pela qual, aliás, não denotou grande apetência, tendo, mesmo assim, exercido as funções de presidente de Câmara Municipal de Coimbra e de Membro do Parlamento Português, de que foi vice-presidente; no capítulo quinto, é referida a sua atividade enquanto reitor da Universidade de Coimbra, donde foi afastado por motivos políticos, derivados do turbilhão do rotativismo, na época, entre Regeneradores e Progressistas da Monarquia Constitucional, de que foi expoente destes últimos o cons. No full textABSTRACT : A verbal protocol used in “Pre-molecular assessment of self-processes in neurotypical subjects using a single cognitive behavioral intervention evoking autobiographical memory" (Martins, Simões, Barros and Simões, 2022) is published. This verbal protocol is based on the publications of Simões and colleagues (Simões et al., 1998; Simões, 2002; Simões et al., 2013). This protocol was initially tested in the pilot study of this experiment (Martins et al., 2016a) and as the experimental procedure of the “Pre-molecular assessment of self-processes in neurotypical subjects using a single cognitive behavioral intervention evoking autobiographical memory (Martins, Simões, Barros and Simões, 2022).The verbal protocol is used in the single cognitive behavioral intervention as a script and comprises the 1st phase, the Arousal Phase, and the 2nd phase, the Awareness Phase.

Two paratypes (unsexed), pinned: " Cayamas | Cuba, Baker [w, p, cb]" (LSPC). Diagnosis. Paratrikona blakeae is readily characterized by humeral angles expanded anteriorly, surpassing mid-length of pronotum, and elytra strongly convex with angulate apex in lateral view, with disc densely and regularly punctate in longitudinal rows, intervals smooth, shiny, impunctate and distinct, wider than puncture diameter. Description. Measurements (holotype): Body length 12.5 mm, body width 10.5 mm, body length/width ratio 1.9, pronotal length 2.9 mm, pronotal width 5.9 mm, pronotal width/length ratio: 2.03. Body elongate-triangular, regularly converging from base to apex. Integument yellow opaque, except for antennomers VI-XI and punctures of elytral disc light brown, posterior margin of pronotum and basal margin of elytra black. Antennae with 5 basal antennomeres glabrous, 6 distal antennomeres densely setose; scape ca. 2.25 X longer than pedicel, tapered towards apex. Length ratio of antennomeres: 100:44:50:66:55:55:83:72:66:72:94. Pronotum trapezoidal, with maximum width before middle, anterior margin concave, disc coarsely rugose, lateral margins subparallel and sinuous following wider region; posterior angle truncate. Explanate pronotal margin moderately broad. Prosternum glabrous with prosternal collar projecting anteriorly with angulate anterior margin, not covering mouthparts, concave laterally, followed by deep and short depression. Prosternal process with subparallel lateral margins, angulate apex, surface with two longitudinal sulci and rugose apex. Scutellum triangular, impunctate, smooth and shiny. Elytra with basal margin serrate in emargination, denticles obtuse and swollen, strongly convex in lateral view with angulate apex; humeral angles expanded anteriorly, surpassing mid-length of pronotum, with anterior margin slightly truncate, followed by continuous concave lateral margin. Humeral angles slightly projected laterally with oblique elevation extending from humeral callus to outer corner, followed by deeply punctate depression. Disc densely, deeply and regularly punctate in longitudinal rows, intervals distinct, 2 x wider than diameter of puncture, smooth, shiny, impunctate. Marginal row of punctures distinct in entire length, interrupted once after humeral callus oblique elevation and before mid-length. Explanate elytral margin converging posterad, smooth, finely and densely punctate, shiny. Mesosternal process short c. 1.5x longer than wide, convex laterally with truncate apex. Distribution. Cuba (Caymans). Etymology. The species is dedicated to Chrysomelidae researcher Doris Holmes Blake (1892-1978). Entomologist specialized in the study of Chrysomelidae, and contributed extensively to broaden the knowledge of the genus Paratrikona.Published as part of Simões, Marianna V. Avaliação da ação citotóxica de cardenolídeos em células tumorais
No full textTese (doutorado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Ciências da Saúde, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Farmácia, Florianópolis, 2015.Os cardenolídeos, tais como digoxina e oubaína, são conhecidos por sua eficácia no tratamento da insuficiência cardíaca congestiva e como fármacos antiarrítmicos. Recentemente, foram detectadas novas atividades farmacológicas para esses "antigos" fármacos. Tendo em vista o crescente interesse na pesquisa e desenvolvimento desta classe de compostos como potenciais quimioterápicos, frente a diversas linhagens celulares tumorais, o presente trabalho de tese objetivou avaliar os efeitos citotóxicos em células tumorais de três cardenolídeos (glucoevatromonosídeo, digitoxigenina monodigitoxosídeo e convalotoxina), previamente selecionados pela sua potente ação citotóxica. Inicialmente, eles foram avaliados em linhagens celulares tumorais de diferentes origens e todos demonstraram uma potente ação, em concentrações nanomolares, em todas as linhagens testadas, especialmente nas células de tumor de pulmão (A549). Essa linhagem tumoral foi então selecionada para a continuação dos experimentos para detectar o tipo de morte celular causada por esses três cardenolídeos. O glucoevatromonosídeo (GEV), composto mais promissor, também foi investigado em células U937 (linfoma histiolítico). Todos os três causaram bloqueio da fase G2/M, enquanto que a convalotoxina (CON) aumentou o número de células em subG0 do ciclo celular. O GEV foi capaz de inibir a expressão de importantes proteínas relacionadas ao ciclo celular, como ciclina B1 e p53 em A549. Ainda, esse composto causou bloqueio em subG0 em células U937, demonstrando um efeito dependente do tipo celular. O efeito de morte celular causado pelo GEV também foi tipo celular dependente, já que foi observada morte celular pela ação de caspases nas células U937 e independente da ação das caspases em células A549. A digitoxigenina monodigitoxosídeo não apresentou efeito significativo de morte celular em células A549. A CON aumentou o número de núcleos picnóticos e células Anexina-V positivas, configurando morte celular apoptótica. Alem disso, os três compostos foram capazes de inibir a migração e invasão celulares, em células A549, bem como de reduzir a expressão das proteínas: MMP2, MMP9 e FAK (proteína de adesão focal), que são essenciais no processo de metástase. Além disso, o GEV foi capaz de inibir a expressão de importantes cinases, geralmente super expressas em células tumorais. O conjunto desses dados sugere que estes compostos, especialmente o GEV, podem ser considerados candidatos promissores para o desenvolvimento de uma forma farmacêutica a ser usada no tratamento do câncer de pulmão.Abstract : Cardenolídeos such as ouabain and digoxin are known for their efficacy in treating congestive heart failure as antiarrhythmic drugs. Recently, new pharmacological activities have been found (antiviral and antitumor) to these "old" drugs. Given the growing interest in research and development of this group of compounds, as potential chemotherapeutic agents, this work aimed to evaluate the cytotoxic effects on tumor cells of three cardenolides (glucoevatromonoside, digitoxigenin monodigitoxoside and convallatoxin) previously selected for its potent cytotoxic action. Initially, they were screened in tumor cell lines of different origins and all of them showed potent action at nanomolar concentrations in all cell lines tested, particularly in lung tumor cells (A549). This cell line was then selected for further investigation to detect the kind of cell death caused by these three cardenolides. Glucoevatromonoside (GEV) was the most promising compound, and also investigated in U937 cells (histiocytic lymphoma). All these compounds block G2/M phase, whereas the convallatoxin increased the number of cells in subG0 phase. GEV was able to inhibit the expression of important proteins related to cell cycle, such as Cyclin B1 and p53. Beyond that, this compound caused cell cycle blockage in subG0 phase in U937 cells, demonstrating dependent cell type effect. The effect of cell death caused by GEV was also cell type dependent. In U937 cells, GEV showed a caspase dependent cell death while it is independent of caspase in A549 cells. Digitoxigenin monodigitoxoside did not show a significant percentage of cell death in A549 cells. Convallatoxin increased the number of pyknotic nuclei and Annexin-V positive cells, setting apoptotic cell death in A549 cells. Furthermore, the three compounds are capable of inhibiting cell migration and invasion in A549 cells as well as to reduce the expression of some proteins as MMP2, MMP9 and FAK (focal adhesion protein), which are essential in the process of metastasis. Moreover, GEV was able to inhibit the expression of important kinases, usually over expressed in tumor cells.. Taken together, these data suggest that these compounds, especially GEV can be considered promising candidates for the development of a pharmaceutical form to be used in the treatment of lung cancer

No full textResumo: Neste artigo, abordamos a relação sujeito-língua no âmbito da educação linguística (Simões, 2006) e de políticas de ensino escolar de língua portuguesa no Brasil (Rajagopalan, 2013). Partindo de Bakhtin (1997, 2010a, 2010b, 2015) e Volóchinov (2017), realizamos um diálogo teórico, sob o princípio de pesquisa interdisciplinar na Linguística Aplicada mestiça e ideológica (Moita Lopes, 2006, 2013), com o objetivo de problematizar questões políticas e culturais em torno de língua e educação linguística (Rajagopalan, 2013; Simões, 2006; Bagno; Rangel, 2005; Guimarães, 2002). Tomamos para análise políticas de ensino de português, particularmente aquelas que se instituem no processo de escolarização do campo jornalístico: a Lei 5.692/1971, os PCN (Brasil, 1998) e a BNCC (Brasil, 2018).Abstract: In this paper, we approached the subject-language relationship in the context of language education (Simões, 2006) and Portuguese school teaching policies in Brazil (Rajagopalan, 2013). Starting from Bakhtin (1997, 2010a, 2010b, 2015) and Volóchinov (2017), we carry out a theoretical dialogue, under the principle of interdisciplinary research in mixed and ideological Applied Linguistics (Moita Lopes, 2006, 2013), with the aim of problematizing political and cultural issues around language and language education (Rajagopalan, 2013; Simões, 2006; Bagno; Rangel, 2005; Guimarães, 2002).
