Berry more or less spherical, 7.5–8 mm diam., dark yellow, pilose; embryo color green. Distribution and phenology:— Sphyrospermum xanthocarpum is known only from the type collection from the Central Cordillera of Colombia (Dept. Quindio). It grows in montane forests forming dense colonies, at 1950 m. The type was flowering and fruiting in August. Conservation status:— Only a few individuals were recently seen by W. Vargas in early 2007 at the type locality, which is a very deteriorated area. Historically, central Colombia has been dramatically deforested in the effort to open up land for agriculture, particularly for the now ubiquitious coffee plantations. Critically endangered (CR B1 ai). Observations:— Sphyrospermum xanthocarpum is the only species in the genus known to have yellow berries. It belongs to a group of taxa with yellowish corollas. Morphologically, S. xanthocarpum is similar to S. flaviflorum, but can be easily differentiated from the latter species by its longer and much narrower leaves, and much shorter corolla.Published as part of Luteyn, James L. & Pedraza-Peñalosa, Paola, 2013, Nomenclature, taxonomy, and conservation of the neotropical genus Sphyrospermum (Ericaceae: Vaccinieae), including five new species for Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, pp. 1-29 in Phytotaxa 79 (1) on page 25, DOI: 10.11646/phytotaxa.79.1.1, http://zenodo.org/record/506685

Francisco Pedraza and the Processional Cross in Añover (Salamanca)

    No full text
[EN] The 2019 revision of the historic-artistic inventory of the diocese of Salamanca in different temples in the archpriesthood of Vitigudino-Ledesma (Salamanca) brought to light the processional cross in Añover de Tormes, a magnificent piece with lyre-shaped arms. By the time it was worked, in the mid-16th century, the rich and varied plateresque decoration that covers the whole surface of the cross had been fully assimilated. Its author Francisco de Pedraza (whose heretofore unique hallmark, P/DRA/ƷA, can be seen repeatedly next to the town name, Salamanca) was a renowned Salmantinian silversmith who, for instance, renovated the old processional monstrance in the cathedral of Salamanca

Nigromancia y género: la bruja en la narrativa de Pilar Pedraza

Abstract: In her literature —commonly linked to the fantastic and the gothic—, Pilar Pedraza focuses on individuals on the margins, often monstrous. Among all these figures, the witch stands out. The article studies the way the author conceives it. Based on the ideas exposed in Brujas, sapos y aquelarres (2014) and the analysis of the most representative works, it aims to determine to what extent Pedraza’s treatment affects her poetics as a producer of unusual fiction and to what extent we can consider it a specifically feminine —or feminist— approach to this type of fiction, especially on the gothic side.
