Preoperative diagnosis of incidental carcinoma in multinodular goitre by means of electromagnetic interactions
In the evaluation of multinodular goitre, finding a malignant neoplasia is often an unexpected result of the histological diagnosis. TRIMprob (Tissue Resonance Interaction Method Probe) is a portable system for non-invasive diagnosis, that utilises the different electromagnetic properties of healthy and pathological tissues, producing a low-power magnetic field that interacts with the molecular structure of tissues. The interference levels are detected by a receiver device and are elaborated with software in a graph consisting of 3 easily interpretable bands. The objective of our study was to assess the usefulness of the TRIMprob system in the preoperative diagnosis of carcinoma in patients with multinodular goitre. Over the period from January 2005 to March 2006 we used TRIMprob to screen 51 patients with a clinical diagnosis of multinodular goitre, later operated on by total thyroidectomy. We then compared the TRIMprob response with the histological diagnosis on the surgical specimen. The TRIMprob results suggested 46 cases compatible with non-malignant goitre and 5 suspected cancers. The final histological diagnosis confirmed these results with 46 cases of multinodular goitre and 5 papillary carcinomas. The sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy of the procedure were all 100%. On the basis of these preliminary results, TRIMprob seems to be a highly accurate method for the detection of suspected carcinomas in the context of multinodular goitre. If these results are confirmed, new prospects could be opened up in the diagnosis of thyroid diseases
Solitary fibrous tumor of the pelvis: an uncommon soft-tissue tumor. A case report
A rare case of Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) of the pelvis is reported. A 76-years-old man presented with a low abdominal pain, acute urine retention and constipation. Imaging studies (US, CT MR) showed an 17 x 10 x 9 ovoid mass in the pelvis, dislocating bladder and rectum. Finally, trans-rectal needle biopsy suggested the diagnosis of SFT. En bloc excision of tumor and rectum (because of strong adhesions) was performed. Histological examination showed spindle and fibroblastic-like cells dispersed in collagenous areas with positive stains for CD34, bcl-2, CD99 and it confirmed diagnosis of SFT. No postoperative complications occurred, only vesico-sphincter dyssynergia was found by urodynamics. After 5 years, patient is disease-free. SFT is, usually, benign tumor with slow growth and excellent prognosis. Complete surgical resection is the only curative treatment. However, 10-15% of SFT are malignant and histological findings cannot always predict clinical behaviour. For this reason, careful and long term follow-up is necessary after surgery

Abstract : This thesis aims to make a reading of livelihoods and factory work in the novel De mim já nem se lembra (2007) of Luiz Ruffato. Among the topics covered by this author are issues related to migration of rural workers to the city in search of a better outlook on life. In this context, the Ruffato characters will face the work on metallurgical factories in the big cities and, on that basis, will have their culture, identity and livelihoods changed in comparison to their earlier life in countryside. We intend through the study of literature, history and sociology, open ways for a better understanding of this Luiz Ruffato narrative
The node’s specific test of Modena’s illustrated comics, in the late nineteenth century and the first two decades of the twentieth century, made it possible to add new tiles of knowledge in an already existing historiography on the subject, drawing a historical framework in which the Modena’s illustration developed itself, both in reference to an urban context and beyond this. The complete photographic campaign has offered the opportunity to enhance documents with the result of new assignments. This led to the reorganization of the acquired data, as well as the deepening of the individual personality, highlighting aspects so far remained in the shadows. By the analysis performed, signs of major innovations emerged from the "Marchese Colombi" of 1893 and "La Sciarpa d’Iride" in 1897, so that they can be considered essential in Modena’s publishing publications in the specific field of illustrated comics. The first new feature is the collaboration of Umberto Tirelli to "Marchese Colombi" which, starting from 1895, brings the cartoon image to become the central node of the journal despite the text, this prerogative recognized by most critics as the the exclusive "Duca Borso" since 1900. In the assignment test has been recognized Umberto Tirelli as the author of cartoons traced in several sheets appeared between 1900 and 1903; in some cases, these partnerships were simply reordered, in others, we can talk of new assignments. Furthermore, from the analysis of fifteen years of "Duca Borso," it was possible to reconsider the common opinion of the critics, on the basis that the most prosperous period and lush of the magazine coincides with the direction of Umberto Tirelli. Between 1908 and 1912, in fact, on "Duca Borso" interesting illustrations of artists no less valid Tirelli are alternated, and yet, in the last two years of life, very young designers collaborate and such practice will herald them painting experience. It is found in these pages the figure of sixteen years old Mario Vellani Marchi identified under the pseudonym of Marius, in which has been tried to reconstruct a biographical profile as update as possible. Special attention has also been devoted to the Unique Numbers and to periodicals discontinuously issued, among which we remember "Il Navicello” on 8 May 1910, whose illustrations were attributed to the illustrator Aguini, who stole them from Umberto Tirelli. The catalog of Aguini has been enriched also by illustrations of other Unique Numbers appeared in Modena until 1913. After the break imposed by the war, the humorous illustration will be entrusted in its results in particular to Mario Vellani Marchi which, in 1921, along with Casimiro Jodi will establish "Il Gatto Bigio." Mario Vellani Marchi is the first artist that contributed to the developments of Modena’s illustrated comics during the twenties
Análise de uma pintura: o velório de [...] Maria Auxiliadora
Apoiando-se em autores consagrados da Academia, bem como no método psicanalítico, com suas regras próprias e estratégias, espera-se contribuir para maior compreensão dos temas despontados, bem como reverenciar a grande e talentosa pintora nacionalThis study plans, based on Psychoanalysis — which since its beginnings laid authors and works on the couch, from literature to the field of plastic arts, from Leonardo da Vinci to Michelangelo, from W. Jensen to Fiódor Dostoiévski — analyze other significant artistic work, by Brazilian painter Maria Auxiliadora da Silva, whose object-canvas, with an instigating title, Velório da Noiva, evokes a great commotion in the author and stimulated her to investigate questions of the unconscious. This impact is not only common in the most recent definitions of what art is, but is reported by other psychoanalysts, such as André Green and Ada Morgenstern, in addition to Sigmund Freud himself. Some consider it an aesthetic or sublime moment, and it would be related to the style of the first care born by the baby. I would also be able to answer the question of why we are more sensitive to certain objects while others are completely indifferent. Those who affect us would carry with themselves a transformational power, capable of reframing experiences. From this encounter between work, artist and spectator, something new would be born: the creation of meanings, which emerge from the symbolic to a conscious language. Based on renowned authors of the Academy, as well as on the psychoanalytic method, with its own and objective rules, it is expected to contribute to a better understanding of the emerging themes, as well as to reverence the great and talented national painte
The article focuses on Tanta gente, Mariana (1959) with the aim of analysing the ways in which the author, through the trajectories of the protagonists, contributes to designing a geography of subalternity feminine. Both the space and its inhabitants are mirrors of a hostile context that confines these women inexorably out of place. The eponymous novel and “A Menina Arminda”, in particular, provide a reflection on the deaf revolt of all those women who, escaping the pre-established paths, refuse to conform to the roles of wives, mothers and good housewives.O artigo centra-se na obra Tanta gente, Mariana (1959) com o intuito de analisar as maneiras com que a autora, através das trajetórias das protagonistas, contribui a desenhar uma geografia da subalternidade feminina.

Jews and gender in British literature 1815-1865.
PhDThis thesis examines the variety of relationships between Jews and gender in early
to mid-nineteenth century British literature, focussing particularly on representations
of and by Jewish women. It reconstructs the social, political and literary context in
which writers produced images and narratives about Jews, and considers to what
extent stereotypes were reproduced, appropriated, or challenged. In particular it
examines the ways in which questions of gender were linked to ideas about religious
or racial difference in the Victorian period.
The study situates literary representations of Jews within the context of
contemporary debates about the participation of the Jews in the life of the modern
state. It also investigates the ways in which these political debates were gendered,
looking in particular at the relationship between the cultural construction of
femininity and English national identity.
It first considers Victorian culture's obsession with Rebecca, the Jewess created in
Walter Scott's influential novel Ivanhoe (1819). It examines Rebecca's refusal to
convert to Christianity in the context of Scott's discussion of racial separatism and
modern national unity.
Evangelical writers like Annie Webb, Amelia Bristow and Mrs Brendlah were
prolific literary producers, and preoccupied with converting Jewish women.
Particularly during the 18'40s and 1850s, evangelical writing provided an important
forum for the construction and consolidation of women's national identity.
Grace Aguilar's writing was an attempt to understand Jewish identity within the
terms of Victorian domestic ideology. In contrast, Celia and Marion Moss, in their
historical romances, offered narratives of female heroism and national liberation,
drawing on the contemporary debate about slavery.
Benjamin Disraeli's construction of a "tough version of Jewish identity was a
response both to the contemporary stereotype of the feminised Jew and to the debate
about Jewish emancipation. It also drew on the virile ideology of the Young England
movement of the 1840s
tecnologicamente mediatizzato. This essay is inspired by a question posed by Ada d’Adamo regarding the influence of
technology on dance, which arose during a doctoral seminar in which the author of this
essay participated with a presentation on motion capture technologies in the realm of
performance. Drawing on the philosophical and anthropological currents of Arnold
Gehlen’s thought and beginning with certain theoretical insights relevant to
Posthuman Studies and Posthuman Disability Studies, the essay explores the
intersections between technology and “permeable” corporeality through an analysis of
the work of Marco Donnarumma, a performer and media artist. Donnarumma
investigates “forms of alternative corporeality” by integrating prosthetics, artificial
intelligence, and biosensors. These technological devices, by interacting with the body,
generate novel “somatic” responses and representations of “human-machine hybrids”
from a non-transhumanist perspective. Indeed, Donnarumma’s performances offer a
vision of bodily vulnerability as a critical resource, raising questions about our notions of
identity and corporeal subjectivity in a technologically mediated world
