INDAGAÇÃO DIALÓGICA DE GORDON WELLS EM PROCESSOS FORMATIVOS COM PROFESSORES: INTERLOCUÇÕES COM A COMUNIDADE CIENTÍFICA INTERNACIONAL: GORDON WELLS’ DIALOGICAL INQUIRY IN FORMATIVE PROCESSES WITH TEACHERS: INTERLOCUTIONS WITH THE INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY
The study communicates, in a hermeneutic phenomenological perspective, what is it, Gordon Wells' dialogic inquiry in communications from the international scientific community that involve formative processes, like. An exploratory-descriptive research was developed from the 10 most cited works by the author in the Google Scholar database. The works selected, 119, were completely read and organized into summaries, translated into Portuguese, highlighting the theoretical-practical aspects of the dialogic inquiry in each of them. From the analysis process five categories emerged: i) Writing, Reading and Communication via Technological Tools; ii) Interactivity and Collaboration in Networks; iii) Professional Development in Communities; iv) Collaborative Learning in Science Teaching; v) Tutoring and Mediation in Professional Development. The emerging aspects, related to the contexts in which Gordon Wells' dialogic inquiry is integrated, provide clues to understand professional development in a dialogic, social and collaborative perspective in environments with different subjectsO estudo comunica, em perspectiva fenomenológica hermenêutica, o que se mostra da indagação dialógica de Gordon Wells em comunicações da comunidade científica internacional que envolvam processos formativos. Desenvolveu-se uma pesquisa exploratória-descritiva a partir das 10 obras mais citadas do autor na base de dados do Google Acadêmico. Foram selecionados 119 trabalhos, lidos integralmente e organizados em sínteses, traduzidas para língua portuguesa, evidenciando os aspectos teórico-práticos da indagação dialógica em cada um deles. Emergiram do processo da análise cinco categorias: i) Escrita, Leitura e Comunicação via Ferramentas Tecnológicas; ii) A Interatividade e a Colaboração em Redes; iii) Desenvolvimento Profissional em Comunidades; iv) Aprendizagem Colaborativa no Ensino de Ciências; v) Tutoria e Mediação no Desenvolvimento Profissional. Os aspectos que se mostram em relação aos contextos em que a indagação dialógica de Gordon Wells é integrada fornecem pistas para que seja possível compreender o desenvolvimento profissional em um viés dialógico, social e colaborativo em ambientes com sujeitos diferentes
UMA PEDAGOGIA TEATRAL VELADA: A ÜBER-MARIONETTE DE GORDON CRAIG
The pedagogical aspect of Gordon Craig’s thought is not an explicit feature of his work in general, which seems to prefer weave considerations over aesthetic issues and the search for a redefinition of what is the actual language of theatre as an art. But insinuates itself subtly in his early writings - sometimes in the opposite direction - and will slowly surfacing towards formalizing a theoretical and practical pedagogical model for an "artist of the future." In this educational approach of his work, we can spot the creation of the allegory of the Über-marionette, and its scepticism about the actor’s work, the main target of criticism included in this formulation. Combining this imaginative creation of a utopian super-actor and his attributes, with a detailed description of the impracticability actor as author and artistic material, gives us an intriguing educational proposal that interexchange with their aesthetic vision and form a kind of veiled pedagogy, hidden in ambiguities and in poetic images, tying in perfectly with the lyrical universe of all his work. O caráter pedagógico do pensamento de Gordon Craig não é um aspecto explícito de sua obra de um modo geral, que parece preferir debruçar-se sobre questões estéticas e de redefinição do que seja a própria linguagem da arte do teatro. Mas se insinua de maneira sutil em seus primeiros escritos - por vezes numa via contrária - e irá aflorando lentamente em direção à formalização de um modelo pedagógico teórico e prático para um “artista do teatro do futuro”. Nesse viés pedagógico de seu trabalho se insere a criação da alegoria do Über-marionette e a crítica ao trabalho do ator, alvo principal da crítica inserida nessa formulação. A combinação dessa imaginativa criação utópica de um super-ator e seus atributos, com uma minuciosa descrição da inviabilidade do ator como autor e material artístico, rascunha uma intrigante proposta pedagógica que dialogará com suas questões estéticas e formará uma pedagogia velada, oculta em duplos sentidos e imagens poéticas, que se coadunam perfeitamente com o universo lírico de toda sua obra
Association of C-reactive protein with blood pressure and hypertension: life course confounding and mendelian randomization tests of causality
Background: C-reactive protein (CRP) has repeatedly been associated with blood pressure and prevalent and incident hypertension, but whether a causal link exists is uncertain.Methods and Results: We assessed the cross-sectional relations of CRP to systolic blood pressure, pulse pressure, and prevalent hypertension in a representative sample of >3500 British women aged 60 to 79 years. For both outcomes, substantial associations were observed. However, these associations were greatly attenuated by adjustment for a wide range of confounding factors acting over the life course. We further investigated causality using a Mendelian randomization approach by examining the association of the 1059G/C polymorphism in the human CRP gene with CRP and with blood pressure, pulse pressure, and hypertension. The polymorphism was associated with a robust difference in CRP, and the expectation would be for higher blood pressure and pulse pressure and greater prevalence of hypertension among those carrying the genetic variant associated with higher CRP levels. This was not observed, and the predicted causal effects of CRP on blood pressure, pulse pressure, and hypertension using instrumental variables methods were close to 0, although with wide CIs.Conclusions: CRP levels are associated with blood pressure, pulse pressure, and hypertension, but adjustment for life course confounding and a Mendelian randomization approach suggest the elevated CRP levels do not lead to elevated blood pressure.In a large study, we demonstrate that CRP levels but not a genetic variant associated with CRP levels were related to hypertension. Furthermore, the CRP association with hypertension was essentially abolished by statistical adjustment for confounding factors. We conclude that elevated CRP levels do not lead to elevated blood pressure

Working Paper 143 - Does Good Governance Create Value for International Acquirers in Africa: Evidence from us Acquisitions
Using a sample of US acquisitions in Africa over the last 2 decades, we assess the long term performance of international acquisitions in Africa, and the impact of firm and country level governance characteristics on reported performance. We show that acquirers do not benefit from these transactions. We also find that acquisitions made in countries characterized by strong and impartial legal systems lead to higher returns, while those observed in unstable economies generate lower returns. Interestingly, the level of corruption does not affect reported performance. Previous experience in Africa and the acquirer’s board size seem to be significant determinants of reported performance as well. Our results contrasts with the view that a strong legal framework reduces acquirers’ ability to make large returns by turning around poorly governed firms.
Cuidando do recém-nascido em UTIN: convivendo com a fragilidade do viver/sobreviver à luz da complexidade
Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Ciências da Saúde, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Enfermagem, Florianópolis, 2009.Este estudo trata da elaboração de um modelo que contempla o fenômeno do cuidado em Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal a partir da compreensão do ser e fazer enquanto enfermeiro neste sistema complexo. Tal compreensão aborda as transformações ocorridas desde a criação das UTINs até a atualidade, vislumbrando sua busca pela integralidade ao oferecer um cuidado sensível e compartilhado. O referencial metodológico da Teoria Fundamentada nos Dados (Grounded theory) associado ao Paradigma da Complexidade de Edgar Morin foi utilizado na análise e na construção do Modelo Teórico: CUIDANDO DO RECÉM-NASCIDO EM UTIN: Convivendo com a fragilidade do viver/sobreviver à luz da complexidade. Participaram da pesquisa 11 sujeitos, entre enfermeiros e mães com bebês internados na UTIN. Utilizou-se a entrevista aberta para coleta dos dados. A análise comparativa dos dados subsidiou o processo de codificação, amostragem, saturação teórica, ordenação e integração dos dados. Os dados foram inseridos no software NVIVO, dando seqüência na organização e agrupamento dos mesmos. A organização dos códigos foi feita de acordo com suas propriedades e, então, agrupados em códigos preliminares, subcategorias e categorias. Através das inter-relações entre categorias, emergente dos dados coletados, identificou-se a categoria central, eixo norteador do Modelo Teórico, e integradora das categorias analíticas denominada: Convivendo com a fragilidade do viver/sobreviver: cuidado altamente complexo, sensível, singular e compartilhado em torno da qual giram as demais categorias: Buscando conhecimentos e competências; Gerenciando o cuidado na UTIN e Vivenciando as singularidades na UTIN. Neste contexto, o cuidado em UTIN se fortalece como uma das áreas da Enfermagem em constante desenvolvimento, visando conciliar os avanços tecnológicos importantes para o sobreviver do bebê prematuro com abordagens que valorizam as inter-relações em seu quotidiano, de modo sistêmico. Busca atuar nas diversas esferas do cuidado complexo em saúde, desde os serviços de apoio da instituição hospitalar e seus gestores até a academia, visando evitar atuações compartimentadas e isoladas, integrando e aplicando conhecimentos científicos, com ganhos para a prática profissional. Oferecer suporte tecnológico já não basta. A pesquisa ressalta que é necessário exercitar as potencialidades já inatas dos profissionais de enfermagem e caminhar para o encontro de outras, um verdadeiro convite a novas percepções de cuidar do neonato, sua família e os membros deste sistema complexo, numa constante inquietação e adaptação para as demandas que surgem. Assim, as indagações norteadoras desta pesquisa convidam para a ampliação de novos horizontes de investigação, de forma que as possibilidades de estudos indicadas permitam o aprofundamento no âmbito das organizações de saúde e da academia.This study deals with the elaboration of a model which contemplates the phenomenon of care in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), based on the comprehension of the human being and human actor as a nurse in this complex system. Such comprehension encompasses the transformations which have occurred since the creation of the NICUs, discerning its search for the entirety to offer sensible and shared care. The methodological reference of the Grounded Theory associated with Edgar Morins Complexity Theory was utilized in analysis and the construction of the Theoretical Model: CARING FOR THE NEWBORN IN THE NICU: Living with the fragility of living/surviving in the light of complexity. The sample was composed of 11 subjects, including nurses and mothers with newborns in the NICU. Open interviews were used in order to collect data. Comparative data analysis subsidized the data codification, sampling, theoretical saturation, ordering, and integration processes. Data was inserted into NVIVO software, providing a sequence in data organization and grouping. Organizing the codes was done according to their properties and thus, grouped in preliminary codes, subcategories, and categories. Through the relationships in these categories which emerged from the data collected, the central category, the guiding axis of the Theoretical Model and the integrating factor of the analytical categories was identified, denominated: Living with the fragility of living/surviving: highly complex, sensitive, singular, and shared care around which are the following categories: Seeking knowledge and competencies; Managing NICU care; and Living the singularities of the NICU. In this context, NICU care is strengthened as one of the Nursing areas in constant development, seeking to conciliate important technological advances towards premature newborn survival with the approaches which systematically value day-to-day relationships. It seeks to enact in the diverse spheres of complex health care, from the support services of the hospital institution and its management to academia, searching to avoid fragmented and isolated care through integrating and applying scientific knowledge with gains for professional practice. Offering technological support is no longer enough. Research highlights that it is necessary to exercise already innate potential in nursing professionals and work towards finding others, a true invitation towards new perceptions for care for the newborn, his/her family, and the members of this complex system in a constant unrest and adaptation of demands which may arise. Thus, the guiding questions of this study invite towards the amplification of new investigative horizons, in such a manner that the possibilities for suggested studies permit more profound in the realm of health care and academic organizations
Organizational Learning and Marketing Capability Development: A Study of Charity Retailing Operation of British Social Enterprises
Social enterprise is a hybrid form of profit- and social benefit-seeking organization whereby traditional nonprofit organizations pursue both their social mission and business opportunities. To embrace this new strategic direction shift, the nonprofit organizations need to develop new competences that will enable them to respond to the changes in the business model. The article investigates the learning mechanisms through which social enterprises develop a marketing capability to deploy their resources in the marketplace as the drivers of competitive advantage in their commercial practice. We study eight cases of UK-based charity retailers, in order to address the role of knowledge accumulation, articulation and codification process in the evolution of marketing capability development. We identify, amongst other things that the critical process of organizational learning for social enterprise is to transfer the experience into organization specific knowledge under the social aspects of constraints

Temporal interpretation in narrative discourse and event internal reference
This dissertation argues that aspectual markers denote birelational functions from a set of events denoted by a verb-phrase (VP) to a set of VP-event-parts that are
located relative to: (i) an input encoding explicitly temporal information and (ii) an input encoding information about discourse connectivity. The proposed
analysis is implemented within Compositional Discourse Representation Theory and accounts for temporal interpretation in narrative discourse. The view that aspect describes VP-event-parts allows a straightforward comparison between the English progressive and the Russian imperfective. Both
lead to the imperfective paradox because when they combine with VPs describing non-atomic events, any one of the VP-event-parts satisfies their truth-conditions.
When the base-VP describes atomic events, however, the Russian imperfective leads to an entailment that the described event culminated because the only eventpart
that could satisfy its truth-conditions is the VP-event. In the case of the English progressive, however, coercion takes place because its truth-conditions require proper VP-event-parts. The view that aspect is birelational provides an explanation of why the Russian imperfective could lead to an entailment that the described event: (iii) took place within some salient time and (iv) did not follow a salient discourse
event. This aspect relates a VP-event-part and its consequent state relative to two inputs, which specify whether (iii) or (iv) holds. One of these inputs is a time that is supplied by the tense and whose value is constrained by temporal adverbials. The other is a state that is supplied by temporal adverbials and whose value may be fixed by the discourse context. An important consequence of the analysis is that the state input supplied by temporal adverbials determines—to a large extent—whether narrative progression is possible. For example, the state input supplied by that same day requires a salient antecedent and narrative progression follows from independent rules of anaphora resolution. Yesterday, however, introduces an unspecified state into the discourse context that is not linked to prior discourse. Finally, now introduces a state that is linked to the discourse context, but the constraints

Produção/reprodução e transformação do comportamento alcoolista nos contextos culturais da família e do trabalho /
Dissertação (Mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Ciências da Saúde.A presente dissertação de mestrado trata de uma investigação realizada a partir dos resultados obtidos na Prática Assistencial, quando foi oferecida, a três famílias de servidores alcoolistas, uma modalidade de assistência de enfermagem pautada na Teoria Sistêmica de Família e na Teoria de Leininger. Buscando ampliar e complementar os dados obtidos, foi elaborado um projeto que deu origem a este estudo, o qual tem por objetivos: analisar as influências do contexto do trabalho na produção/reprodução e transformação do comportamento alcoolista; analisar os nexos entre a produção/reprodução e transformação do comportamento alcoolista no contexto do trabalho e da família e propor alternativas para a transformação do comportamento alcoolista no trabalho, mediante as potencialidades identificadas na família e no trabalho. Este é um estudo exploratório, qualitativo, realizado com três funcionários alcoolistas da UFSM (Universidade Federal de Santa Maria) vinculados às famílias anteriormente pesquisadas. A metodologia constitui-se na análise de fichas funcionais, observação participante no ambiente de trabalho e entrevista com chefias, quando necessário. Após a etapa de coleta de dados, foi possível analisar os nexos entre o comportamento alcoolista na família e o comportamento alcoolista no trabalho. Identificar a produção/reprodução do comportamento alcoolista no contexto do trabalho viabilizou a sinalização de uma proposta de transformação, para a qual aponto indicadores de mudanças; e também reconheço a necessidade de espaços para desenvolver um trabalho integrado entre os serviços que tratam o alcoolismo, principalmente ao nível institucional, no qual me incluo, na tentativa de buscar outras maneiras de investir em mudanças gradativas do comportamento alcoolista
