This article presents the results of the practical investigation of doctoral research with the participation of three teachers graduated in Educational Sciences in the area of Mathematics, the research had 110 students of the 10th grade of the Teacher Training School for primary education. The aim of this study is to improve Mathematical Communication (MC) in the Teaching Learning Process in the TLP. This study is qualitative, analytical-descriptive, which evidences a tool with an informative, relational and didactic dimension in order to offer quality learning in Mathematics, through the resolution of exercises and problems that leads to the understanding of the transfer of a natural communication (oral and written) to the symbolic,  from there to the graphic and vice versa. It can be considered that the essence of the eductional, pedagogical and teaching-learning processes are communicative par excellence, which led the first author to investigate mathematical communication (MC), involving pedagogical communication and its antecedents and global perspectives. It is concluded that, in addition to the general conceptions that characterize education in the Republic of Angola, established from the normative documents, considerations about the (MC) are made in the TLP. The didactic strategy contributed to the improvement of the TLP in the school in question. As retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a neurovascular retinal disease, this study analyzed the contributions of NGF (rs6330), BDNF (rs7934165), TH (rs10770141), and EPO (rs507392) genetic functional polymorphisms to the modulation of hematological and biochemical parameters of the first week of life and their association with ROP development. A multicenter cohort of 396 preterm infants (gestational age < 32 weeks or birth weight < 1500 g) was genotyped using MicroChip DNA and iPlex MassARRAY® platform. Multivariate regression followed univariate assessment of ROP risk factors. NGF (GG) genotype was associated with a higher ROP risk (OR = 1.79), which increased further (OR = 2.38) when epistatic interactions with TH (allele C) and BDNF (allele G) were present. Significant circulating biomarker differences, including bilirubin, erythrocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, lymphocytes, and platelet markers, were found between ROP and non-ROP groups, with variations depending on the polymorphism. These findings suggest that NGF (rs6330) and its interactions with related genes contribute to ROP risk, providing valuable insights into the genetic and biological mechanisms underlying the disease and identifying potential predictive biomarkers.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Background/aims: the success of the treatment in patients with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is mainly associated with timely diagnosis and appropriate management. Information dissemination is crucial for the outcome of ROP. This study aimed to evaluate the quality of the information about ROP available for patients on the internet. Methods: Cross sectional study. in March 2004 the ROP information available on the internet was evaluated using two search engines (MetaCrawler and MSN) and four key terms (retinopathy of prematurity, premature eye, premature retina, and ROP). the quality of each website was evaluated using a score system. the sites were classified as academic, organisational, or commercial. Readability, general quality of the website (based on ownership, purpose, authorship, author qualification, attribution, interactivity, and currency), and quality of the content specific to ROP (definition, causes, epidemiology, risk factors, diagnosis, classification, treatment, and prognosis) were analysed. Results: of 114 websites evaluated, 40 were included. 10 sites (25.0%) were academic, eight (20.0%) organisational, and 22 (55.0%) commercial. in the majority of the sites (62.5%) the ROP information was fair or poor. Conclusions: A large amount of information about ROP is available on the internet. However, most websites were considered incomplete.Univ Calif Davis, Dept Ophthalmol, Sacramento, CA 95817 USAUniversidade Federal de São Paulo, Dept Ophthalmol, São Paulo, BrazilUniversidade Federal de São Paulo, Dept Ophthalmol, São Paulo, BrazilWeb of Scienc

    A EDUCAÇÃO E A POLÍTICA

“Education and politics” is the title of this work that aims to study the close connection between education and politics, or the art of organizing society. In fact, the more education there is, the better a society is structured. A reminder of the pretensions that many people have to think they understand politics, forgetting that it requires well-founded knowledge, in fact it is also a science. Education professionals are the builders of society and must accept the challenge of knowing the truth. Important concepts are presented that can help understand the reality addressed. Expert views can lead to this goal. The research is centered on four fundamental points: 1. Education and the role of the teacher. An attempt is made to show the great importance of education in any society and also the great role of the teacher; 2. What is politics? This approach shows the man who wants to know more about the reality in which he lives, realizing that he must organize such a world; 3. What means does politics have at its disposal? We want to make people understand the importance of the norms that any society approves as instruments for good social coexistence; and, 4. Power. Central theme when it comes to politics, as it also addresses government issues. The work ends with a short Conclusion, after having presented an Introduction at the beginning. The method in evidence is fundamentally bibliographic with reasoned incidences from the author.“A educação e a política” é o título deste trabalho que visa estudar a estreita ligação entre educação e a política, ou a arte de organizar a sociedade. A educação e o papel do professor.

Point-of-care C-reactive protein test results in acute infections in children in primary care: an observational study

Abstract Background Acute infections are a common reason for children to consult primary care. Serious infections are rare but differentiating them from self-limiting illnesses remains challenging. This can lead to inappropriate antibiotic prescribing. Point-of-care C-reactive protein testing is used to guide antibiotic prescribing in adults. However, in children its use remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to assess point-of-care CRP test levels with respect to patients’ characteristics, care setting, preliminary diagnosis, and management. Methods A prospective observational study was performed in children with an acute infection presenting to ambulatory care in Belgium. Results In this study 8280 cases were analysed, of which 6552 had a point-of-care CRP value available. A total of 276 physicians participated. The median patient age was 1.98 years (IQR 0.97 to 4.17), 37% of children presented to a general practitioner, 33% to a paediatric out-patient clinic, and 30% to the emergency department. A total of 131 different preliminary diagnoses were found, with acute upper airway infection as the most frequent. In 6% (n = 513) patients were diagnosed with a serious infection. The most common serious infection was pneumonia. Antibiotics were prescribed in 28% (n = 2030) of all episodes. The median CRP over all infectious episodes was 10 mg/L (IQR < 5–29). Children below 5 years of age and those presenting to a paediatrician had a higher median CRP. Median CRP in patients with serious infections was 21 mg/L (IQR 6 to 63.5). Pneumonia had a median CRP of 48 mg/L (IQR 13–113). In the episodes with antibiotics prescription, median CRP level was 29 mg/L (IQR 10–58) compared to 7 mg/L (IQR < 5–19) when they were not prescribed. Conclusion A low POC CRP as a standalone tool did not seem to be sufficient to rule out serious infections, but its potential in assessing serious infections could increase when integrated in a clinical decision rule.sponsorship: This study was funded by the National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (RIZIV, Belgium) under reference CGV no 2012/235 and the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO Vlaanderen) under research project no G067509N.

    No full text
Introduction: Neonates born prematurely spend their transition from the inside of the uterus to their extrauterine life, facing high oxygen levels causing a sensation where the still developing retina receives too much oxygen, this sensation prevents the normal growth of blood vessels. Over the years, multiple risk factors have been studied that contribute to the development of retinopathy, one of them being the use of oxygen, currently it is unknown what is the ideal oxygen value for the newborn not to develop the disease. This paper consists of a manual aimed at nursing staff working in the NICU that describes the management of oxygen therapy to reduce the risk of retinopathies. Objective: To develop a nursing manual for the management of oxygen therapy in neonates at risk of ROP in the neonatal intensive care unit. Methodology: A documentary research was carried out to support this work, considering the following phases: search for information in the different databases such as: ClínicalKey, Scielo, PubMed, Elsevier, MedicLatina and Google Scholar, compiling the information through the elaboration of a matrix with the relevant information extracted from each of the articles in the following sections: author, year, type of study, result of study, facilitating its reading and in the last phase of construction of results corresponds to the elaboration of the manual. Results: Specialized care in neonatal nursing is essential to ensure that neonates, especially those facing health challenges, receive the necessary treatment to overcome their disease and develop healthily, thus avoiding possible long-term complications. A manual for managing evidence-based care allows NICU staff to have more comprehensive interventions for their day-to-day practice.Estudiante

By this brief description the author proposes to show how, by through their fight against the influences of French and Lingála by promotion on all levels of the lonkundó language, a variety of the lomongo spoken mainly in the surroundings about Mbandaka, in DRC and classified under the C.61 initials by Guthrie, Fathers E Boelaert, G Hulstaert and A. De Rop, missionaries of Sacred Heart, managed to save a good part of the cultural inheritance of the Congolese central basin of the danger of total loss. Follows a summary of what the author wrote already himself on the current situation of the linguistic minorities in the Congolese basin central and finally of some testimonies on the interest of the languages presently spoken by minority communities for the reconstitution of the African pre-colonial history. In its conclusions, the author wonders about the types of actions which can still be carried out in order to guarantee the protection of this cultural inheritance, in the interest both of these small communities and of scientific research. Keywords: Æquatoria; lingala; lonkundó; lomongo; Boelaert; Hulstaert; De Rop; linguisticminorities

A socióloga Saskia Sassen pertence à última escola.Abstract : This dissertation aims to investigate if the coordination of the International Humanitarian Aid actors, examined under UNOCHA - United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, is a Global Emerging Class, promoter of denationalization according to the analytical typology of Saskia Sassen. This author presents the concept of Denationalization linked to the phenomenon of globalization and characterizes the Emerging Global Class by: being identifiable social arrangements, having national and global binding, not being cosmopolitans and presenting a systemic reference in global capitalism. It is understood that it is possible to identify constitutive and operational elements in the conjugation of the International Humanitarian Aid actors, based on the coordination logic of UNOCHA, which allow to verify the plausibility of the central hypothesis of this research. This is a International Politics study whose character is descriptive and exploratory. Its temporal boundary is between the 1980s and the current days. To understand the context of this research the theories of International Relations of Neoliberal Institutionalism and Historical Sociology will be used. Methods: Multicenter, prospective, observational study of a cohort of preterm infants born with gestational age (GA) < 32 weeks or birth weight < 1500 g in eight Portuguese neonatal intensive care units. All demographic, clinical, and laboratory data from the first week of life were collected. Univariate logistic regression was used to assess risk factors for ROP and then multivariate regression was performed. Results: A total of 455 infants were included in the study. The median GA was 29.6 weeks, and the median birth weight was 1295 g. One hundred and seventy-two infants (37.8%) developed ROP. Median values of erythrocytes (p < 0.001), hemoglobin (p < 0.001), hematocrit (p < 0.001), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (p < 0.001), lymphocytes (p = 0.035), and platelets (p = 0.003) of the group of infants diagnosed with ROP any stage were lower than those without ROP. Mean corpuscular volume (MCV) (p = 0.044), red blood cell distribution width (RDW) (p < 0.001), erythroblasts (p < 0.001), neutrophils (p = 0.030), neutrophils-lymphocytes ratio (p = 0.028), and basophils (p = 0.003) were higher in the ROP group. Higher values of MCV, erythroblasts, and basophils remained significantly associated with ROP after multivariate regression. Conclusion: In our cohort, the increase in erythroblasts, MCV, and basophils in the first week of life was significantly and independently associated with the development of ROP. These CBC parameters may be early predictive biomarkers for ROP.Open access funding provided by FCT|FCCN (b-on).
